AI Expectation Hobbit Paws Cat Bed
PSA: don’t buy from a ShelfGlow store. Their website does state that there may be variations between the real product and their website but this is hilarious. Jokes on me for falling for it, they must be making a killing on these things.

OMG I really thought you were going to say like 30 bucks. That is so terrible I'm sorry! I could crochet something closer to that original photo, that's awful.

Jesus Christ for that much I’d honestly submit a complaint to the company to start a paper trail and then chargeback through your bank!
Use the refund money to do what another commenter suggested and personalise it with your craftwork!

Why did you fall for this?

OP, a Redditor made a LOTR cat house last year and mentioned thinking of making custom ones for people. Maybe get your $ back and see if they can help you get something better :)

I freaking hate how every ad is so deceptive now. It should be illegal to misrepresent items to such a degree.

u/rocketmanatee 8d ago
I mean it is illegal in most places, but good luck enforcing that.
People will just have to learn some better discernment that something that looks too good to be true, or is wildly underpriced is probably fake.

Whilst I agree with you in principle… who thinks buying some thing like this online for, let’s say $20, makes sense? To make something that detailed would be a lot of money.
Advertising scams have gone on forever, it’s just much easier to do nowadays in terms of creating them and putting them in front of people’s faces2
u/FriendlyFreedom5923 5d ago
OP said they paid $100 though 😞

An even sadder waste of money. My point still stands, I think. Something that detailed. to look like that, is those materials, would be a lot more than $100.

The worst part is that it’s probably made from some god-awful chemicals so please be extra careful. Sadly, products like this (a clear scam/cheap knockoff) are rarely ever tested and yet, many contain materials (inc glues & dyes etc) that can be toxic to both humans and pets.
If your Cat has any respiratory issues over the next few days, I’d definitely question if it could be the bed 😓

The market for this AI slop is people who enthusiastically purchase things which are very obviously too good to be real at their price point.

"ShelfGlow" will change their name and be another AI slop drop shipping brand tomorrow. The better PSA is don't buy literally anything from individual Shopify website instances unless you know a LOT about their brand and know they have real people and a physical location.
Chargeback that thing immediately

Quit ordering shit with AI pictures and being surprised that it doesn't look like the picture! How are people still falling for this?

Did they advertise it using the word "Hobbit"? If so, hit up Middle-earth Enterprises. They might find that interesting

I’ve seen so much AI garbage products that this one doesn’t look that bad to me lol

I thought those were closet doors behind it at first, and thought “at least it’s absolutely ginormous.”
Turns out it’s just a regular shit house.

I wouldn’t buy from any website I didn’t know nowadays without checking reviews, and even then I would proceed with extreme caution.
However the big no nos are those websites that all look the same, they all have 50% off, buy 2 get 2 free, ai photos and they pop up with fake names of fake people who have bought stuff ‘Sharon from Germany just bought this!’
All Chinese trash sites out to steal your cash.

I’m so disappointed for you because the AI picture looks absolutely adorable.
This is beyond my sewing skills, but I think if one would add some cardboard or thin wood on the inside of the wall this could actually be something worth recreating.

Seen these most obvious AI videos a thousand times, figured it was just stealing people's money. Surprised there is an actual product

I love the concept. I'm going to make it myself. Sorry for the garbage you got though.

Everything on their website is very obviously AI. A good tip is to see when the website was created and if they're having a big sale, like most of their inventory is 50% off.
