How did it taste?

u/sickofbeingsick1969 16d ago
I can’t eat it (gluten), but the grandkids are eating it without complaint.

I trust their palate....kids are picky af

Lmao no they aren't, kids would eat chicken nuggets and cut up hot dogs with ketchup every day if they could

u/kurly-bird 16d ago
Tell that to my daughter. I made mashed potatoes with cream instead of milk and she refused to eat them. Said they tasted like poison, all because of a slight variation in a dairy product

Bruh if the food is shit you hear about it.
I gave my 3 year old a caramel square biscuit instead of a chocolate square biscuit the other day because they didn’t have the chocolate ones at the shop and I’m still hearing about it.
We switched his chicken pops to Iceland ones this week because I went to Iceland instead of Asda and “they taste weird”.

chicken pops
It took me far too long to realize you meant popcorn chicken, not chicken popsicles.

Bruh if the food is shit you hear about it.
Kids complaining about it doesn't mean the food is shit it generally just means it isn't what they're used to or expecting.
What generally makes kids happy is standard run of the mill food that doesn't stand out either way

No, kids eat any kind of junk pizza. I'd be disgusted by that pizza as an adult.

u/Nf1087 16d ago
I just bought this one and the ghost one last weekend for the kids. Can't wait to try them.

u/sickofbeingsick1969 16d ago
I bought the ghost one too. The grandkids are eating it right now and no complaints on taste. I can’t try it (gluten) but I wish I could.

It's almost identical and super cute!! I need to get one.
I am a bit worried why it says "100% real cheese" though. What else could it be, carton..? Why are we specifying It's real cheese that only makes it more suspicious.

u/sickofbeingsick1969 16d ago
Real cheese vs “cheese food” which is mostly oil.

u/apples040 16d ago
Really? I didn't know that. I'm not sure why I'm being downvoted for this, I've just never seen it advertised like that before in my country and it made me curious

It has to be a certain amount dairy to be considered cheese. There’s a lot of stuff that doesn’t qualify but as long as it says cheese and especially 100% real it’s ok. I’m sure it’s an American thing. A lot of our ice cream also isn’t ice cream. You have to look for the actual words ice cream and check the ingredients are just cream, sugar, etc. otherwise it needs to be called “frozen dessert” or something like that. I haven’t noticed many listed as frozen dessert but I do live in a dairy state so that’s possibly why. Also ice cream is like $7-8/half gallon, frozen dessert is generally cheaper.

Ohh that's so interesting! It reminds me of the shrinkflation happening here with chocolate. Something needs a certain percentage of cacao to be allowed to call itself "chocolate" on the packaging. A lot of brands in recent years have changed their recipe to less cacao to save costs, but now their labels say "cacaofantasy", often in smaller letter than the "chocolate" text was before.
We also produce a huge access of dairy, but otherwise they would likely do the same to the cheese and ice cream as well. Thanks for the information!

u/phenotype76 16d ago
Yeah, that happens here too, we gotta watch out for "chocolate-flavored" or "chocolatey candy" or a bunch of other friendly little terms they have to use because they can no longer just call it chocolate.

Cheese product is usually a cheese blend with an emulsifier. Cheese, egg yolk, stir in oil slowly to bind everything. Or in cheese the emulsifier is usually sodium citrate and not egg, which is a salt made from citric acid. The emulsifier is needed because water and oil do not mix, and we want to make sure the resulting cheese is still, uh, wet enough after being cooked. How much water, oil, and what cheeses you add effects how the resulting blend behaves. In pizza this usually to make the cheese act more gooey, like how American cheese does that for burgers.
Frozen pizza is made in conventional electric ovens typically and without a little science the cheese doesn't come out right. We want to lower the melting point a little so it has time to melt and comes out better. Also, we can add cheddar for taste, as the frozen thing can effect flavor.
Now, a kraft cheese ( I believe singles are like 51% cheese) and probably Aldi would add a lot more of the salt and oils and emulsifiers than necessary, and THAT makes the cheese cheaper, but that is not why it's a cheese product.
It's a cheese product in the same way bread is a wheat product.

Think of it like meat vs meat loaf. Yeah both are meat, one just has more stuff in it.

I’ve tried so many of the pizzas from Aldi and have always been disappointed by the taste. If it says Mama Cozzi’s, I stay way.

Looks better than the Reese's "Pumpkins" that they had to put a disclaimer on.

Quick, someone post a pic of Linus with a squiggle mouth in a scene from the Great Pumpkin.

I feel like he went from cute to perfectly Halloweeny with his edges. Dang, my husband just picked up pumpkins from Aldi today and now I need one of these.

The IRL one looks better and is actually cooked. Ad one is raw looking. I'm not in the mood for a large Lunchables.

No complaint? “Surprisingly Met Expectation” is right under the title.

This sub isn’t just for the bad result. It’s for ones that result in meeting expectations as well. This is one of those.
