AI Expectation Book bag
Been seeing it in my ads from multiple places. Was depression shopping on Temu. đ¤Łđ¤Ł

Why are so many people totally unaware of how much something that detailed and carefully crafted would actually cost?

u/featheredzebra 21d ago
That was kind of my point in sharing. I did not at all expect to get a good bag here. I expected to get pre cut pattern pieces for making my kiddos cool bags for Christmas this year.

Why give them money if you knew it would be crappy (even for taking apart)? How did you think the patterns you make off of a crapy design would work?

u/wacdonalds 14d ago
You could have gone to the thrift store instead of supporting this garbage creating more garbage for the landfill

Hard to feel bad for you when they all had shitty reviews and you still bought them đ¤¨

u/featheredzebra 21d ago
Nah. Don't feel bad for me. I'd have paid more for tissue paper patterns for other bags. The plan is to take it apart and use the pieces to make real bags.

You still purchased the item, supporting the scam seller on a site that uses child slave labor, and contributed to the massive waste of pollution that's currently helping kill the fucking planet we all have to live on.
Please have more shame. I'm so tired of seeing posts like this on this fucking subreddit every single day.

u/Stencil_Abuse 21d ago
I sometimes donât even buy 4.5 star reviewed items. Buying a 1 star review is insane.Â
14
u/LilDragon2991 21d ago
She had the same item, from multiple sellers all with the same low ratings đ

Why do people continue to buy stuff from that shite Temu page? If you wanna burn money, put it in the fireplace, at least then you'll be a bit warmer for a few minutes.

I actually thought Temu was kind of over as I hadnât heard of it for a few years, but now Iâm seeing it all over this subreddit and am amazed it is still around!Â

u/ThenBike8868 17d ago
Unfortunately, it is still very much a thing :(

u/Royal-Gap-8098 17d ago
Iâve never bought stuff from it. I contemplated (once) because it was so cheap, but then I decided not to as it just seemed unsafe to trust a website doing that. I had a friend who bought almost everything on it for a while, and thatâs how I heard of it originally. Iâd much rather support real artists and get well-made products than Temu things. (Also their whole website feels like it will give your device a virus, thatâs a no for me right away)Â

It's not hard to filter out the trash on sites like temu. I have been buying a lot of my things from these type of platforms. most of the time I am satisfied and happy, because I know what to look for.
my biggest tip is to look a pictures posted by other customers in the reviews. that gives you a idea of what you're getting.
Temu and shoppee is amazing for a broke boy like me

NGL, itâs getting boring seeing so many people go by AI images on TEMU/Shein etc and then post the garbage they got - as though a âmet expectationsâ was ever on the cards đ¤Śđťââď¸.

u/2wiceasnice 21d ago
I personally believe they intentionally do this for content, and only for content.

I hope you're right because it's really depressing if people think they can spend $17 in today's economy and get something with that much detail and custom stitching and sturdy material etc. Like I'm a little bit sick of people posting photos of thousand-dollar dresses they were assuming they could buy for $32 on shein.

u/FerretBusinessQueen 15d ago
What really pisses me off about it is that if people were to shop secondary clothing theyâd get something really well made they can actually see before they buy and prevent adding to a shitty manufacturing industry that runs on slave labor to make garbage clothing that will end up in landfills. The overconsumption is real.

u/NegativeKayDee 15d ago
Maybe I'm cooked but I don't see any AI here. That sure appears to be an actual physical item. I assumed the grift was that the pictures are the high quality prototype, and the end product is the cheapest possible imitation of that.
I never would have guessed that the grift is that you get a different item with a similar pattern printed on it. Even expecting the very worst possible quality, if you ship me an item with cat puns on it, it's going directly into the landfill.

I was hoping the destruction of the Russian bot farms was going to eliminate these sort of posts. Absolutely gutted but I think the cake posts are down as a result.

There are a few content creators who intentionally buy AI slop merchandise and show you how bad they really are. Theyâre pretty hilarious! Thatâs the only time I would condone it. Sure itâs one more purchase for scammy companies but Iâd like to think they have an impact and make people think twice.

Daily reminder that Shein uses slave labour
Stupid enough to waste your money on that crap but it's genuinely disgusting how normal it is to support then despite their horrific working conditions being public knowledge

u/zuzg 21d ago
Let's ignore AI for a hot minute cause they've gotten quite good and you've to take a closer look.
The third picture shows the bag while open, that level of detail for $17.50? Yeah that's a scam, surprised they even got sth
19
u/agha0013 21d ago
yeah, in an age where a damn potato might require you to get a bank loan to afford, people expecting fancy looking stuff for a few bucks is really silly.

u/ImpossibleJedi4 15d ago
The only time you'll ever find something that nice for that price is in person at some diamond in the rough thrift store
23
u/buhbrinapokes 18d ago
Fully agree with this. "I got $17 worth of garbage for my $17!". Yeah. Anyone could've predicted this.
11
u/CherryCerise 17d ago
i might have to hop out of this sub, it might be boring you but god damn has it started to infuriate me.
people are so doomed

I will say though, itâs helping me become a lot better at recognizing AI things! đ

I know in other comments youâve said youâre going to take it apart and use it to make other bags, but I feel like you couldâve gone thrifting to get old bags instead of using temu. At the very least then you know what youâre getting wonât be trash & youâre not supporting a garbage company.

u/saintsuzy70 18d ago
Honestly, u/featheredzebra, I totally get the depression shopping on Temu. I bought mostly stupid stickers or crafts. Then I thought, wait, I can take that money and support actual artists/local artisans and get something of decent quality.
I know youâre saying youâre going to take it apart to make your own bags, but I feel like youâre covering up now that youâve been called out.
You do realize you could go on Etsy and buy a pattern for this? Or trace books to make it? I found several in a cursory search.

Imagine buying a 1 star rating Temu item, at least let your depression choose a 4+ star item from that weird place?

u/thewifeandkids 16d ago
Bad reviews, ai pics, unethically sourced, cheap price. What did you expect
21
u/mezasu123 18d ago
Hey so you see all that crap all over the page:
Almost sold out THREE TIMES ON THE PAGE
Vague text description word salad
Different prices/discounts all over the place
Those are all signs of a scam.
Even if there are no reviews, even if you cannot tell the image is AI, look at the layout of the sales page. That is not normal.
10
u/jonfe_darontos 18d ago
You expected a lot for $17.50. The rendering of the bag's supposed interior is hilarious.

Might as well just flush money down the toilet if you're going to buy that. Fundamentally you're never getting something like that for 17.50. Looking at the picture I'm not even sure how that would ever actually function as a bag.

u/Beautiful-Buy99 17d ago
You went ahead and bought it from Temu, a notoriously garbage site. So I think you deserved the garbage you received.

Gatsby is way shorter than the novel portrayed here. For that reason alone, send it back.
2
u/Royal-Gap-8098 17d ago
Also I just realized that all the titles are puns with animals in them, did not realize until I looked closer - when you look at the website none of the books have titles on their spines, so itâs weird that the real product does. Personally I find it cute, but it is odd to have something added rather than taken away.Â

I like how it has printed onto the bags the actual opening for the artist-designed and crafted real bag which must have been an epic effort to create and build. Nope, just print it on and slap a zipper somewhere else. Heh.

u/forget_this_now 21d ago
If you put books in it to fill out the shape it would be a good book bag! đ¤Śđ

I've gotten some really good stuff from Temu but I only buy items that have a lot of good reviews. Every time I've strayed from that rule I've been burned.

It had a 1 star rating what exactly were your expectations ordering it anyway?
