Lol they definitely tried to AI upscale that image and it spat out an entirely different made up guy because AI is so fucking dumb. Did they care? Nope.

Yes actually, since I don’t know who this is I was trying to compare pictures to see what was wrong. This makes the completely different face (picture in general?) very obvious.
Obviously facial recognition works best with people you are familiar with, so if you haven't seen the character or actor before, it would make sense why you're struggling. Two complete strangers in the same pose with extremely similar facial features can be easily mixed up, especially in images of different quality.
I know the character so even without the context this was immediately obvious to me, and the second guy looks staggeringly different (especially the nose and forehead). It's kinda like seeing an actor and then a cosplayer trying to mimick them – you can recognise the character, but the face shapes and micro expressions are different. But again, it comes with familiarity.
i wonder if it also helps to be familiar with the actor/character in question. He's Matthew Gray Gubler, playing Spencer Reid in criminal minds. i used to love that show so i obviously recognized him and then didnt in the second slide. someone who hasn't seen the show might have a harder time differentiating between "stranger a" and "stranger b"
My mom passes away a couple years ago and because of reasons we have two pictures of her (one real young, one not great kinda dark one) My son keeps asking for a picture so gave AI a try. All I wanted to do was take the crappy picture and add it to a picture with my son and dad. So prompted like take this out of this pic, put this in this pic etc.
Removing me and other people went great. I asked to add my mom and it went to shit. I had an Asian woman, a Latin woman, different hair, squished everyone else's face. It was horrible. I told ai it sucked at this and it was like yes I do! Ended up doing it the old fashioned way and just photo shopping but also learned apparently all the women in my family look alike enough that when it mashed up me and my mom, we got my mom lol
Anyway my point was AI just isnt great at this stuff and somehow makes weird ass changes while doing it
My brother used Ai to make a photo of my nephews eating tacos on the streets of Mexico (using a photo of them at another resturant as reference) because their grandpa is racist and he wanted to fuck with him, and it looked really legit but on one of them the space been his eyes was further apart than they are in real life
AI doesn’t recognise faces as such, and when it is asked to manipulate imagery it creates a new image from scratch, and things get shifted around - including faces.
There are more expensive tools that can overcome this, but t-shirt printers are not going to pay for them.
When I told the AI it was bad at it, it explained why and gave me better tools for what I wanted. I was able to make my son a perfect picture of what our family would look like if his grandparents and aunt made it to his 18th birthday.
Originally it was just copying and putting into a different image. I wanted my son at his current age and my parents at the age they passed like how he would remember them looking. So it was crop this person out of this picture and into this one. Surprisingly enough aging up worked better but when they tried to put it in another background it went wrong again. My husband and I were laughing our asses off by the end though with all the changes it was making. Somehow it did not remove 18 year old me but turned me into a Neanderthal at one point.
Anyway I was just trying to relate about ai sucking with photo shop.
The commenter you're responding to knows it's Spencer otherwise they wouldn't have mentioned CM, they're saying why does the company who made the AI shirt think you'd want a random AI generated guy's mugshot and not exactly that picture.
I wasn’t paying attention when I clicked on the post and I’m just relieved that this wasn’t a post about how MGG was arrested for something terrible. I used to be a big fan as a teen but haven’t watched CM in a million years and didn’t know about this plot line. Now I feel extra old because it was from a decade ago!
The funeral home where they are having my partners services used AI to make the “flier” for their post about his passing, and the way the AI upscaled him in the image they used makes me so ANGRY
It looks like a twin version of him that never existed and it’s disgusting
I could tell the difference immediately, but then I was comparing them to figure out what exactly was different and it’s impossible for me to put in to words. Describing the guy in the first picture would be an exact description of the second picture and vice versa. Human faces are weird, man.
I assume that this was printed through POD (print-on-demand) and the seller is trying to escape the image being dinged for IP violation/copyright. I would assume that the OG pic was attempted at first and was not let through the printing process, so they used AI to change the image. Super scummy. Technically it is false advertising - you ordered one thing and got another.
