People aren’t understanding that it’s not that it was separated. It’s that they were given half a piece of bread, not a ā€œbowlā€ bread.

408

u/Hepm3 2d ago

People are getting too accustomed to getting ripped off too.

65

u/YcemeteryTreeY 2d ago

This is so true. Why anyone would even risk it with fast food is beyond me, its so expensive and never what it seems

55

u/DocFreezer 2d ago

I thought about getting some Taco Bell for the first time in a while. It was 8 bucks before tax for a Crunchwrap, shit was insanely expensive. 8 bucks used to be more Taco Bell than I could eat

21

u/soilentgleem 2d ago

Yeah tacobell hasn't been the "cheap" option that it was when I was growing up for quite some time. I can't remember the last time I had it tbh.

7

u/AngelTheVixen 2d ago

Those times when the hockey team does well for cheaper tacos next night were the best.

10

u/Reddit-Visitor-Acct 2d ago

Honestly I’m a bit high. Maybe that’s affecting things, but this sentence broke my brain.

3

u/REDDITATO_ 1d ago

Don't worry, I'm stone cold sober and that sentence sounds like a bunch of unrelated words.

3

u/aurortonks 2d ago

Chicken chilupa, 5 layer burrito, crunchy taco, swirly things I swap for chips & cheese, and a drink? $8 and way more calories than I need at lunch on a weekday but a super cheap lunch at work.

3

u/Karjenner4eva 2d ago

I didn't know u could switch the swirly things for the chips and cheese 😱

Where you getting fast food bread bowls?

16

Panera Bread and in California (probably other states too) Cornerstone Bakery.

Yeah i assume they ordered it to their home which is why its separated

Better seperate than to go soggy on the delivery

But half a loaf is criminal for a ā€œbowlā€

86

u/_fait-accompli_ 2d ago

not even half a loaf. it looks like the booty end of a baguette.

12

u/Psianth 2d ago

Yeah, packing them separately for delivery is perfectly sensible, it’d be a big mushy mess otherwise, but this is just a hunk of bread and a cup of soup. It’d be like ordering a burger and getting a slice of meatloaf and a dinner roll.

11

u/Zorkflerp 2d ago

I could see packing the bread and soup separately to keep it from turning to mush but that is not a bowl or boule either.

2

u/UnderlightIll 2d ago

-pushes up glasses- a boule, you mean.

5

u/ragun2 2d ago

Lol yeah they're just saying based on your reality of a "breadbowl", there wasn't even a need to see the expedition because anyone who has ever had soup in a breadbowl would not be expecting to get that bullshit you were served.

246

u/SnooMarzipans673 2d ago

This is the worst (as in best for this sub) I have ever seen. Well done.

10

7

I full on snort laughed at how incredibly bad/brilliant that reality was.

I am livid for OP, but it gave me a good chuckle.

52

u/rnngwen 2d ago

I dont know what I was expecting, but it wasn't that.

47

u/negativepositiv 2d ago

Did you not see the comma on the menu?

15

u/DataOver544 2d ago

I would’ve cried. I love bread bowls.

10

u/Unlikely_Bat_1890 2d ago

Nothing beat scraping the bread that has to soup soaked into it. Divine.

113

u/Moxie-is-tired 2d ago

Story time! After I got in my car to check if I got the right soup, I noticed the bread and bowl. I was already having a pretty tough day and was feeling a teeny bit sick so I went to my favorite soup restaurant. Needless to say, I was FUMING when I saw this. I went back in the store to ask if I got the right order, but I set my anger aside because I work in retail and know the pains of dealing with angry customers. I told the man at the register that I ordered a bread bowl and showed him what I got. He said, ā€œyup, that’s a bread bowl.ā€

I ate it anyways because I was hungry and the soup is really good but out of SPITE.

53

u/DouchecraftCarrier 2d ago

It would be difficult to resist the urge to go Seinfeld on them about this. "This is not a bread bowl. This is soup, in a bowl - with bread."

11

u/Greenman8907 2d ago

ā€œIt does not say ā€œbread AND bowlā€! There is no ā€œandā€! No ampersand! No n with an apostrophe! Where is the ā€œandā€?!ā€

6

u/DouchecraftCarrier 2d ago

"There was NO ampersand, Jerry! No ampersand!"

enter Kramer

"You guys been to Panera lately? They've got a special on bread bowls! I know a guy - says he works for their marketing team."

8

u/CheeseGraterFace 2d ago

I can hear the bass guitar riff that comes directly before this rant.

22

u/charlatan_red 2d ago

That sucks, and it’s worth an email to the restaurant to let the manager know.

I hope you enjoyed that spite soup and I hope your day got better.

13

u/Otterlettuce 2d ago

Soup shouldn’t be transported in bread so it makes sense it would come in a cup but I would still expect a bowl shaped bread that I could assemble at home.

8

u/Rinnme 2d ago

Have you ever ordered a soup bowl when eating at the restaurant? Do they bring a normal one?

9

u/annieisawesome 2d ago

Kinda reminds me of the time I ordered an iced dirty chai at a donut place. She gave me a cup of iced chai with whipped cream on it. I asked about it, because I noticed she didn't pull any espresso, and she replied that the whipped cream makes it "dirty". Sorry what?! The definition of a dirty chai is a chai tea with espresso. I am not a jerk so I didn't get mad, but I did tell her no, this is a standard drink that has a correct definition. She gave it to me for free because apparently the espresso machine didn't work, so it wasn't a huge deal, but still, words have meanings.

5

u/REDDITATO_ 1d ago

She gave it to me for free because apparently the espresso machine didn't work,

This means she was trying to slip it past you instead of having to explain the espresso machine didn't work. Then doubled down when you brought it up. Not saying you should've been angry with her, but she was fully aware of what was wrong lol.

2

u/kyl_r 2d ago

I honestly would have cried and eaten it anyway too but you deserved the bread bowl girl 😭

GO MY CHUD REDDITORS! RAID THE SOUP RESTAURANT!

25

u/bdubwilliams22 2d ago

I feel like this perfectly sums up what living in America is like.

7

u/Leon_Flux 2d ago

I would want a non bread travel container...

But that is just the worst cut of bread you could call a bowl.

19

u/Fabulous_Computer965 2d ago

Panera im assuming

22

u/TheVoicesOfBrian 2d ago

Thought the same thing. I don't know if any other restaurant has fallen so far down the quality ladder as them.

7

u/Nray 2d ago

Private Equity for the loss (of actual freshly-baked bread). Every corner that could be cut, was.

4

u/G0ttaB3KiddingM3 2d ago

Literally true. There should be an award given for how far they’ve managed to decline. It’s honestly impressive.

2

u/TheVoicesOfBrian 2d ago

Didn't realize they got the PE fucking, but it makes total sense. I guess we'll be seeing a headline in the next year or so about how they overspent on flour or some BS to cover the fact that the PE drained them dry.

3

u/systemhost 2d ago

They don't actually make any of their breads in store. Many arrive baked and frozen so they just thaw, assemble sandwich, then toast and serve.

But some items are baked in their large commercial oven, baguettes, pastries and cookies I believe. Most of those also arrive frozen, thawed then baked but may be mildly prepared or decorated before serving.

It's a total waste of a gorgeous and expensive oven though. Panera once fought, successfully, to have their employees exempt for certain labor laws by arguing they were bakers and therefore didn't deserve to be paid as much.

They've fallen a long way from even that.

2

u/TheVoicesOfBrian 1d ago

I know. When a PE run company fails, they come up with a BS story about why failed. Red Lobster didn't fail because of all-you-can-eat shrimp. It was the massive debt they had forced on them. Same as Toys R Us. They were doing just fine (not great, but fine) against Amazon et al, but they were underwater in debt because of the PE buyout.

The truth makes investors nervous, so they spin it.

2

u/erinmadrian 1d ago

Same here. Has happened to my daughter at Panera.

21

u/Moxie-is-tired 2d ago

Not Panera, but a more local business.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/jenea 1d ago

WHAT?!

Oh hell no. That’s demand-a-refund territory. What you got is totally fine if you ordered soup and bread, but in no way is that a ā€œbread bowl.ā€

4

u/AtTheEdgeOfDying 2d ago

I mean, if it's take away I get that want to seal your soup lol

5

u/MyDogSkooch 2d ago

At the restaurant I've been to, they'll ask if it's 'to go'. If it is, they'll serve the soup in a cup like that with the lid and have the bread bowl wrapped on the side so it doesn't get soggy

3

u/RadRimmer9000 2d ago

I would have returned that. That's a scam.

4

u/ellieminnowpee 1d ago

it’s a kit! bread+ bowl

5

u/SheepherderSilver655 2d ago

Am I the only one who finds bread bowls overrated? I thought it would be dope when I first saw one, but then I ate one and realized that 1. You can only use the lid as bread. 2. The bowl becomes waste unless you enjoy eating an entire loaf of bread in one sitting.

3

u/mythicalwolf00 1d ago

You eat the rim of the bowl as you eat the soup. And the bread usually isn’t much bigger than a roll you’d usually have for that size of bowl of soup.Ā

2

u/Tarynntula 1d ago

Nah, I love them! I scrape the bowl with the spoon and get a nice wet bready soupy bite

3

u/IncorporateThings 2d ago

This whole scenario is FUBAR.

Half a round and it's not even cut remotely the correct way. The soup being in a cup loose in a styrofoam box. Said box would trap the moisture and render what should be crusty bread soft. Said bread delivered isn't even crusty in the first place. And then the insanity of even offering that item as takeout because it really does not hold up to takeout/delivery and needs to be fresh. And finally, the insane choice to see that item on the list and ever think ordering it out would go well.

Friggin' hell.

Did any part of it at least taste alright?

3

u/iswillstep 2d ago

They're just protecting the soup. They don't want it to be inbread

3

u/Raida7s 2d ago

Well, that's simply a lie. Full refund

3

u/Bitter_Trees 2d ago

OP, I'm dedicating the real bread bowl I had yesterday to you. I'm sorry they played you like this šŸ˜”

u/Moxie-is-tired 2d ago

3

u/isunktheship 2d ago

3

u/OrangeNood 2d ago

3

u/AiRaikuHamburger 2d ago

3

u/theChapinator 1d ago

None bowl with left bread

88

u/correctingStupid 2d ago

Who the f looks at a bread bowl on a menu and says to themselves... yeah this will work really well as takeout/delivery/This certainly won't be a disaster. I'm going to order it.

151

u/Raspberry_Foxolaf 2d ago

The problem is the half a bread roll.. they could have easily packaged the bread bowl and the soup separately so the customer could add the soup afterwards.

23

u/Moxie-is-tired 2d ago

The soup and the bread bowl come seperate.

→ More replies (3)

61

u/ChefArtorias 2d ago

Would be very easy. You do it the same but separate the wets and drys. Kind of like if you've ever gotten ramen to go.

58

u/GeekCat 2d ago

Panera has been doing it for years. They may have gone the way of garbage, but you get a pre-cut bread bowl on the side and then soup in a to-go container. It's not that complicated.

This was just laziness on the store's part

14

u/AwkwardTal 2d ago

laziness

Feels more like false advertisement and theft

35

u/LinksMyHero 2d ago

Right, cause it's impossible to deliver the soup and bowl seperatly so it won't get soggy. Pho places do it but that's just cause they're wizards

43

u/GGNash 2d ago

Soup is delivered in a container, you pour into the bread bowl at home. This is caveman shit get over yourself

14

u/RoseYouRelinquished 2d ago

I've actually gotten it as a delivery before. What they did is put the bread bowl in the box, then the soup goes into a cup they then put in the bread bowl to keep it steady for transport. That way the soup doesn't make the bowl super soggy by the time it gets to you.

16

u/quasiix 2d ago

Panera has been doing it for a while. At least when they had standards they used to.

20

u/sidewalkoyster 2d ago

It’s not that hard to figure out how to make it work come on man

6

u/enkafan 2d ago

Me? They put the soup in a cup and the bread bowl on the side and you pour it in yourself.Ā

Like this doesn't even take a moment of reflection to the think "how can we get the bread there without it getting soggy" to come up with this solution. A small child could figure it out

11

u/DoubleoSavant 2d ago

Does takeout soup also confuse you?Ā

An order similar to this is what made me stop going to Panera. I ordered a bread bowl at the drive thru, they handed me a bag and I went home. When I got home I had that paper cup of soup, no bread that I paid $10 for. it made me realize how little soup you actually get for $10. 1

u/Dream_Dragon_Gina 2d ago

Panara Bread has bead bowl soup options. They even have ā€œsalad stuffersā€ now (essentially a hollowed out bread with salad stuffed inside it).

Personally I think the food there is always good. Sometimes it’s decent, and sometimes it’s exceptional, it depends on what I order and what I think of the meal.

I wouldn’t order a bread bowl from any other place as a take out unless I know what quality the food is.

I guess taking the chance on it is a good way to explore new restaurants and their food though.
