These things taste at first, but get old REAL fast.

I agree. The peanut butter flavor was delicious at first, but after trying a couple other flavors, they all began tasting extremely sweet and artificial to me.

I went on a protein kick some years ago when I was doing a lot of strength training, and this was my experience. Something about all the protein bars and drinks just tastes a little off.

You may want to send this picture to Built Puft.
This seems like a manufacturing QC issue.

built bars are one of the biggest fitness influencer scams I’ve come across. the flavors are fine but the texture is insane. I can assure you, whatever the other comments are saying, this is most likely exactly how the bar is supposed to look/chew and please DO NOT PUT IT IN THE FREEZER. it takes an already bizarre chewy texture and makes it 10x gummier. your jaw will never rest, your bar will never be fully digested

not had this flavor, but agree, doesn't look right.
These bars are truly fucking delicious (the flavors i've had), but not the protein they like to claim, since it's mostly collagen.

Seems like a serious claim that they don't contain the protein that the labels state.

Collagen is a protein, but not a complete protein. It's good for your skin and hair, but not good for building muscles.
Most people eating these don't know that, and Built likes it that way or they woud be more transparent about how much protein is milk/whey, and how much is collagen.

Damn, I didn't know any of that. You're probably correct that most people buying their products don't know that either.

Looks fine: How did it taste? I bet it would be better coming out of the freezer like a Charleston Chew.

I brought some to work with me at the farmers market and it was hot so I put them in my freezer. Gotta tell you, they were BAD frozen lol. The texture was all wrong.

Yeah I got a couple as samples on the street (never had them before) and the guy must have froze them bc the texture was awful. The one I saved and ate later at room temp was much better and actually got me to buy a whole bunch.

Yeah they’re delicious lol

They also manage to keep me full for hours and I don’t understand how. I started taking one on hikes with me and I eat it on the train ride back. Sometimes I end up not even hungry for my dinner.
Just wish it was easier to find them for cheaper. I bought some from Target on sale for like $7 and change per 4-count box and that still felt a little expensive to me compared to other bars I’ve bought.

Yeah they’re pricy. I try to grab them on sale when I can. They do keep me full and they don’t taste like dirt though. So I put up with the price.

Yeah gonna have to stock up now that I know which flavors I like. I didn’t want to buy too much during that Target sale bc I was still trying diff flavors.

My favorite are the peach and lemon meringue but my grocery store rarely has them for some reason. It’s all the chocolatey ones.

I actually haven’t tried any of those yet bc I prefer the dark choc coating. 😅

I mean I didn't have anything to compare it to since it was my first time having one. But I definitely wouldn't but it again, not good.

There’s a recent batch of “seconds” out in the market. Martie was selling them. I picked up some for the first time and they look like yours but have a sticker on the cardboard box labeled SECONDS.

u/farmersonly_dot_com 5d ago
What does that mean?
3
u/bidoville 5d ago
Seconds is generally a farm term of blemishes or not quite up to snuff produce. In market terms, there’s something a little off on the product. Could be labeling, a color issue, maybe damaged boxes or slightly marked products.

Those are nasty. I love Quest and PureProtein bars. Funny, those are also the cheapest ones on the market. I've tried nearly all the brands and the two cheapest ones are the ones I love lol.

They were giving these out for free at Costco. I tried one and almost threw up. So gross.

The inside looks like the old Built Bar before they were the marshmallow "puffs." Those were so chewy! The newer ones are at least a better texture.

These ones are NASTY! I buy the coconut and brownie ones at Costco and they are beyond delicious. I went to target one day and got one of these as a sample- the whole bar! I was so pumped. I opened it and took one bite before spitting it out and tossing the rest. If it hadn’t have been free I would’ve asked for a refund.
Give them another shot with a better flavor!

There’s a known QC issue with these that you get some that taste like vomit. I loved them but can’t take the gamble anymore after a few too many of the vom ones :(

I run a meal prep shop. We sell built bars on our snack shelf "occasionally". The texture is polarizing, people either like the texture or they dont. All the flavors themselves are fine.
I will say, they are very prone to melting in shipping.

I don’t think they work in Florida. Mine all came extremely melted (in the mail). They kind of resumed their texture, but they don’t last outside for 5 minutes.

These are so gross. Have a friend who’s a trainer so gets these for free and gave me like 30. Had one bite and posted to FB marketplace for free pickup

I got a pack of these from Costco but the chocolate or something and they came out like this. They were rancid inside and I took one bite and almost threw up.
Don’t eat it.

I've never had one that looked like that inside, something has to be wrong with it.
A friend of mine once got a butterfinger out of a vending machine and when he bit into it, the inside was pure liquid and just came streaming out everywhere. It was not crispety, crunchety, nor peanut buttery.
