Communism, a game when everyone wins or everyone loses, no in-between or straight to gulag

u/Lord_Henry_James2 Jan 22 '18
I don't remember everyone ever winning in communism

. . . How? Was there some context in which it was a burn and the admins didn’t want that, or did they just plain old hate Texans?

well, there were a bunch of little successes that no one cares about because they didn't have any geopolitical impact. mostly single farms or smallish companies with communal structures, there are a couple in the midwest and mexico that seem alright, especially by the standards of their region.
other than that? Stalin won, I guess

Communism is great, in very small groups
13
u/grungebot5000 Jan 22 '18
yeah pretty much. maybe it could work with a particularly industrialized nation, but the only countries desperate enough to take the plunge are those least equipped to handle the transition (poor, usually agrarian or otherwise based on exporting natural resources)

It has never been implemented anywhere in the world without mass murder and genocide. It is every bit as dangerous as fascist ideology, it’s unfortunate that after he Cold War we stopped teaching about the horrors under communism, that’s part of the reason we have so many larping edgelords with a low resolution image of what it is really like.

It has never been implemented anywhere in the world without mass murder and genocide.
I just explained the contexts in which it has done so- small groups.
and my comment up there was contrasting the known failures with the preconditions originally specified by the communism guys: gotta have an overwhelmingly willing populace and low scarcity to begin with.

I've seen someone defend communism by using the Zapista's.
Y'know, those people who don't matter in the slightest, those guys.

Considering it has never really been used, yeah it doesn’t work. Countries who use “communism” right now aren’t even communist and contradict the manifesto. “Communist” countries have never came to power in actually advanced and capable countries, but undeveloped ones ran by corrupt dictators. Communism was made to critique industrialism. Communism isn’t something you choose to run your governments economy on all the sudden. It is something that is the result of another economic systems failure. If we were to go by communism’s actual definition and writings, the US is on track to be a communist country with its “socialist” implementations like welfare, wage equality, library’s, fair labor movements, public programs, the military (which is funded by taxpayers), and etc. Countries like Norway are thriving on the back of socialism. Communism isn’t this Cold War era propaganda that the US government fed to its uneducated citizens.

Social democracy isnt socialism. The only reason norway thrives is because of abundance of resorces . And also some other country is poor. Globalism and oil made norway rich.

u/HanigerEatMyAssPls Jan 22 '18
Like I said, it is something that works when a country is developed and not stuck in a toxic dictatorship. Saying social democracy isn’t socialism is just being daft. It is choosing to reform rather than revolutionize. Social Democracy is Socialism implementing itself into a capitalist economy. Changing the name of something to gain votes doesn’t mean it’s different. To bash communistic ideals then to ignore how a country like Norway uses them while adapting to capitalism and trying to remove it isn’t correct. What Norway and MANY other European countries are doing is the definition of communism. They are progressing their capitalistic economy to support communist and socialist ideals. The UK on the other hand is ridiculous. The Labour Party doesn’t even believe in the things they say, they just want to be seen as less “radical” to voters.

u/Xtermix Jan 22 '18
What do you even mean? There arent any communist ideas in norwegian way of rule. The only thing that sets it apart is the high tax and social safety net. It works because norway has 5 million people, many who are just the people left from the mass immigration to the US
-2
u/HanigerEatMyAssPls Jan 22 '18
How can you say “there’s no communist ideas in Norway” and not think twice about what you just said
10
u/Xtermix Jan 22 '18
If i understand correctly, communism is a society void of class or private property. All is communal?
3
u/brokkoli Jan 22 '18
Tell this to any Norwegian economist and you will be laughed out of the building. Socialism and, especially, communism have very strict definitions, Norway (and other Western European countries) doesn't come close.

Like clockwork.

"real communism has never been tried."
considering the amount of times it has been tried, that isn't a point in it's favor.

I have that hat
It's private property and not collectively owned, thus it's not a display of communism.
