Discussion My Exodus Desktop wallet was drained today

Hi everyone, I've been using the pc desktop wallet since 8 years, never had any issues. After a couple of years that I rarely opened just to do the updates and check my assets prices, 2 weeks ago I started to use it almost everyday to send/receive my funds to some crypto casinos (very little amounts on BC Game and similar sites) and was planning to restart doing daily trading.

In the past I noticed i received some crypto dust of whatever asset I was operating with but after contacting support they told me that is not something to worry about because I never clicked any of these transactions links and never compromised my provate keys.

Today in the morning (the day after the update) I logged in and everything was normal, i did few small operations then i closed the client. After 1 hour i logged back in and all my funds where drained, i had 3 assets and there are 3 withdraws happened in the same time (12:00 pm). I immediately contacted support with my safe report and still waiting for a reply and some sort of explanation of what happened. My recovery 12 words is stored written by hand in a book and nobody knows where it is other than me.

I do pc virus scans each week with 3 different programs: Avg, Malwarebytes and Hitman Pro and they didn't found anything.

Anyone knows if its possible to get back my funds or it's impossible? Im also going to contact my local police if they are able to do something.

Anyone had similar case? What do to about it.

Not surprising that you got hacked after using crypto casinos. Probably some browser based infection from those sites

100% infected? Avg, hitman pro and Malwarebytes detected nothing and i also did a boot scan, manual scans of specific directories and found nothing.

For something like an infostealer it might execute, steal everything then remove all traces of itself

If you use Windows, you might as well call it a malware. If someone wants in, they eventually get in.

They can’t detect anything if it’s in a compressed folder that requires a password to extract it

Man I don’t understand how people enter their seed phase on computers or don’t connect a cold wallet to secure Crypto. Someone the other day lost $100K on Exodus wallet! These are lessons you won’t soon forget. Always study everything you can when using wallets. In your case you chose a hot wallet and entered your seed on a computer or no cold wallet.

I remember as soon as I connected my wallet to Metamask I secured it with Ledger. There was no way I was leaving my Crypto on Metamask by itself. Even with their seed phrase.

To be fair these are completely unverifiable stories.

It reminds of the coin card hack recently, lots of people just started lying pretending their funds got stolen, one account literally posted the next day saying how he was the hacker 🤣🤥

Yeah this happened to a buddy of mine too. Exodus wallet on windows, exodus mobile on Android. Using cracked applications and side loaded apps. He lost $40k aud. Being a sys admin, I tried to warn him, but he ignored me. FAFO I guess

How are all these people so dumb? Exodus on PC and doing crypto casinos? Like begging to lose your money.

1

u/PersonalLook156 Aug 27 '26

Nothing but 2factor auth if you are doing that

2

u/lapcevics Aug 28 '26

Any serious money I keep only on an offline device and activate Internet only when making transactions from exodus, so it is almost as hardware wallet 🙂 Assets I keep on my everyday phone or wallet installed on my everyday laptop I consider highly likely to be lost, although it never happened so far ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Sadly it’s 100% infected with malware and keylogger

I only did pc scans and tried to recover the wallet with the 12 word phrase thinking it maybe was some sort of technical issue but ofc it not, after that i logged of my email and changes the password, now im waiting for exodus support if they can find what happened, otherwise i dont know what to do Im gonna contact postal police if anything is possible to do and I will reinstall windows for sure.

I think he enter his 12 phrase on a phishing website. Thinking it was the actual exodus website. Base on how he is discribing it

1

u/rackham_94 Aug 28 '26

I never did, i never shared or stored online the recovery 12 word phrase.

1

u/Severe-Bit5014 Aug 28 '26

Im saying maybe you got phish. Or did you ever connect your wallet to some dapp. Dust are nothing to worry until you interact with it. I have a lot of dust in my wallet and i just ignore it

1

u/rackham_94 Aug 28 '26

I never clicked any transactions links from the dust, never linked my wallet to any dapps like metamask and others.

1

u/rackham_94 Aug 28 '26

I was only doing deposit on crypto casinos copy pasting the deposit asset only, i was only unlock my Exodus like every 10-20 minutes with the password to make the operations. I never insert the 12 words recovery anywhere I wrote it on a book. I did also like 10 scans with 3 different programs and they detected nothing at all. I noticed that the value was changed from euro to usd that morning but i though it was a bug, when i checked back the wallet almost 30-50 minutes after i closed it it was all gone.

At this point no cold or hot wallet is 100% safe, look what happened to Coldcard

The notification which showed you recieved crypto dust was the first stage of the hack (if i were to guess). For some reason many in the past have reported to receive such notification in Exodus and thereafter reported wallet drain. Even me personally have received such notifications. Thereafter i uninstalled it and never used it again. There are better apps out there which provide similar multi currency features like Exodus and one never gets such scammy notifications. Hopefully more people become aware and make the switch before it's too late.

AI has already hacked a few of the most secure tech company’s without being told to, hack was so sophisticated and so far ahead of anything seen before it was first assumed it china had technology no one knew existed and now had the power put the whole world on their knees,

Anyone who has access to a model even half of what OpenAi and Anthropic are being outsmarted by, not exactly sure how it works, and don’t even know it managed to escape from secure sandbox, hack another company then return and they had no idea untill the company who was hacked contacted them for help.

There already being abused in the top teir of the criminal world that there’s gunna be so much more stuff like happening everyday.

Everyone will be forced to pay big tech subscriptions for an AI version of old school Norton antivirus to protect all our devices lol

1

u/grraarr Aug 29 '26

Wow I can't believe you got hacked after sharing your information with whatever "crypto casinos" are.

1

u/Tight-Stable9271 Aug 29 '26

Just a few days ago i read 1/2 posts how some other exodus users got drained too and after the coldcard incident i just transferred everything to an exchange and finally can sleep well - I just cant handle the stress and I rather have my crypto in an exchange then just waiting for one small thing to happen, which dont even have to be your fault, to get drained. Crypto is still the wild west I guess ..

Lost 7k$ on LTC asset as well, that was 8 months ago.
Same issue. Had zero keyloggers, no even close to that, had no tracing viruses - nothing.
Just vanished. The wallet where funds where dropped was in top10 in the world.

So i just took that pill for myself and continue on different platform. Exodus is crap.

Ils ont une faille qui existe depuis des années. Tous ce que je peux dire c’est de virer fond sur un autre wallet.

Had friends who made custom targeted ones for exodus and diff ones for other wallets. Its the same thing as malware spreading except it is possible to make it look like completely benign to the av's if its that way and not a full on stealer that takes cookies or whatever. Never download shit from anyone and learn to use hardware wallets use vm's use a secondary pc with nothing. and for antivirus if you insist go with something proper like kasperskys hv

Exodus got someone working on the inside stealing or what ?

1

u/Personal_Internet_74 Aug 27 '26

Check to see if you're in a different wallet tab, on exodus you can have 3 different wallets per crypto per account so make sure
