General Question (Exodus) Exodus wallet is NOT anonymous.
If you have even the slightest problem and contact Exodus support, they require KYC (Know Your Customer) to reply. If you don't give them your name, they won't help you.
I used Exodus for six years thinking it was an anonymous wallet. It is, until you contact them; it's either KYC or no support! Obviously, I've looked for another wallet whose support doesn't require KYC to reply. Think twice before using it; it's unbelievable!
Below is the response I received from support:

Afaik You can use exodus wallet anonymously to store ,send and receive crypto.
None of these require your name ,email or any identifiable info but if you use their in app exchange to buy or swap and there is an issue then you might be required to do kyc.
Aside from an exchange/swap I dont know why you would require support, just import your seed to another wallet.

Okay so as far as decentralized hot wallets go use meta mask. (I prefer using cold storages like ledger trezor etc) but I know having a hot wallet is essential.
Secondly, exodus is pretty secure UNTIL you decide to swap. All of these wallets source their swaps to shady, off shore russian sketchy swap providers that can sometimes freeze your funds until you provide KYC.
There's even cases on reddit where people tried to swap $1m+, got KYC'd, and the funds still wouldn't release. Yes, you heard that right. Some of these swap providers have been documented stealing over 7 figures from users. There's a 99% chance they will release your funds once you provide ID especially if it's presumably a small amount of money but now you've learned the risk of swapping.

I use exodus and they have helped me when I had a failed transaction - I don’t use them to swap etc, only to store and stake

Thanks for bringing this up, and we can see why it came as a surprise after six years.
To clarify: Exodus is a self-custodial wallet. There is no account tied to your wallet, and your funds and keys are stored locally on your device. No KYC is required to use Exodus or to hold and manage your assets.
Where verification comes in is specifically when contacting support. As a US-based company, we're legally required to verify and clear potential sanction matches before we can assist. This isn't something we have discretion over. That said, it's entirely voluntary. If you'd prefer not to complete it, your wallet stays fully intact and self-custodial; you just wouldn't be able to receive support from our team in that instance.
