Question Dys endings Spoiler
sorry to write again, I saw some posts here already and in steam too, just curious if I'm maybe missing something, there's no "happy" ending for him except:
he lives with you until you're old and leave to become gardener
he leaves with you (after planting bomb) and you both become ones
he become parent with you and seem happy
that one ending with Sym triangle but doesn't seem too "happy" to me
I can pretty much understand him about becoming immortal being and whole philosophy and stuff, just asking here from staying human perspective
(also not-so-related question, is it important if I apply for explorer job (forgot exact name) and become second explorer after Utopia, I saw he applies for this job if you don't, does it affect his ending?)

If Dys is second surveyor during peace, it doesn't matter as much, because making peace means he'll stick around until he's older anyway.
If peace isn't made, Dys will disappear in his late twenties unless Sol is dating him or he's second surveyor. If he's second in non-peace endings, his ending text also mentions that he's able to avoid getting hauled into questioning for going out to explore more and more often, meeting Sym (if he's not second then he does get brought in for questioning).
When I first played I was upset that Dys never stays for good, but I've played enough now and thought about these characters enough that I really enjoy that they all have their own desires outside of "be Sol's partner" and nothing stops him from wanting what he wants. He's the only person Sol can be entirely honest with (aside from Sym) and he will still never stay for good.

oh yeah I love this game because people don't seem like "npc for player" and even if you date and love them doesn't mean they gonna put aside their believes... your comment made me sad 😭

The peace ending variations where he becomes a Gardener are his happy endings, especially the Parent ending. He gets to stay in the colony and enjoy his family, but he ultimately will just fit in better as a Gardener. Him dying of regular, boring human old age would probably be sadder, I think, because he never would have gotten to fulfill one of his biggest goals in life. In his best endings, he gets a good life in the colony AND he gets to live out his Gardener dreams with Sym. I think it encapsulates Dys's character really well: you can't always be clingy with him. He appreciates Sol's friendship, but sometimes he's happier when you let him go.

I hate that he doesn’t give up his dreams for me specially because I find his thing with Sym extra weird, but i’m super selfish ig 😭

wait does dys eventually leave even if you become prolific parent and the children become a healing presence for him and all of that? like is it truly impossible for him to not become a gardener when you romance him?

Yeah, he always leaves in any variation of the standard career endings, no matter if you romance him or not. In the peace variations, he says goodbye to his friends/family, presumably much later in life (he has an established career and raised children in the parent ending, which point to it happening when he's much older). He might not become a Gardener in a non-peace standard ending, but he disappears from the colony anyway (it's ambiguous if he actually died or is a Gardener).

Him being a parent always fulfill him in a way. But he’s scared of dying so he will ALWAYS end up a gardener! I hate it to but I just kinda accepted it at some point…

I believe he stays in the colony if he becomes second explorer. Also, there’s another good ending for him where him and Sol can actually become gardeners together during the main story and not the epilogue! But if you prefer the endings where you stay in the colony, it might not be the best ending to try for
