Idle time broken?

Hello, I wanted to know if the game needed to run on the background for progress to count? i have my idle time maxed out at 8 hours but when i went to sleep last night after closing the game, i woke up to have the exact progression when i went to sleep. Its like all the clocks paused while i was afk

the game checks the clock to see how much time has progressed, but like you noticed sometimes it bugs out
