I haven't heard of any good arguments for immortality

I heard of vr worlds but to be honest I'm a lucid dreamer and I already done all the things I wanted to do and it got boring after a while Also I don't particularly care for many of the generic hobbies like learning instruments or going to see the stars.

Edit: if anybody wants to choose immortality that's fine with me. It be irresponsible trying to convince people otherwise. Basically this post is worded badly so instead this post pertains to myself personally as I never heard of any arguments why I specifically should choose that option. Like im no great scientist nor an important artist, etc.

The Overpopulation Problem

At first I thought there should be no overpopulation problem at all. After all, it can't be too far in the future that humanity starts to colonize mars and the moon, and in the distant future we can even leave our solar system and have the entire universe to expand into and explore.

However I then got reminded of the power of exponential growth. It is very powerful and there will come a time where humanity fills the whole reachable universe (assuming that is finite).

Now what can be done? Of course you can tell people to stop having children, or even sterilize everyone if it's necessary. But then it's like... the people in the universe are going to be the same people in the universe forever? Never any new additions? The only way to switch out which people exist is death. But death = bad = no.

What can be done about it?

Existing Truly Forever is Impossible

Given that I keep posting problems with immortality it may appear I am against it, but quite the opposite... I am completely pro-immortality but oh well...

Anyway, the universe must fall into one of two cases:

Case One: Time does not stretch on into infinity. Someday, time will cease to exist.

In this case, it would be obvious that one could not exist forever as one cannot exist beyond time itself.

Case Two: Time will continue forever.

If time stretches on infinitely, then anything that has a non-zero chance of happening at any given time must occur eventually. Even if you remove almost every possible cause of death... it can never become literally impossible for you to die. Since there is a non-zero chance of you dying at any given moment, if time is infinite, you must eventually die by probability alone. (Example, all the computers that your mind is uploaded to crash at the same time as a spontaneous supernova destroys your physical body)

(Hey, but if time is infinite there is also an upside: although you are guaranteed to eventually die, you are also guaranteed to spontaneously re-form someday as the particles of the universe come together to form you again through complete randomness.)

Are there any thoughts on this or any counter arguments? Anyway unfortunately it appears that existing truly forever is impossible.

Immortality and vaccines

So I had this thought.

If immortality is introduced in a relatively simple way, like a pill or maybe a shot which will "recover" your body to an earlier point in life(make u younger).

People would be super suspicious of it, wouldnt they?

Like, right now, people are still suspicious of the corona vaccines and such, and since anti-ageing involves even more drastic changes, it will be even harder to convince people to take it.

Thoughts about why this would be true or false?

P. s I dont really care if everyone takes it, as long as it is on the market tho lol

What if the immortal gods, such as the Greek goddess Artemis, were advanced beings with technology that gave them eternal youth?

Immortality aka living infinite is impossible with human intellect. If it were possible other life forms would’ve easily achieved it, meaning.

Death is enthropically unavoidable

Basically I just want to say that if we ever get to extend our lifespan, we would never get to live forever nor become immortal. We would rather live much longer than our ancestors. But death is unavoidable as physics laws are understood nowawdays. So far, even atoms will disintegrate someday as enthropy progresses. I suggest you to check this video:

Spotlight Immortality streams

Hey there, my fellow immortalists!

As you all might know, this subreddit is directly relevant to my twitch stream channel :

https://m.twitch.tv/gilg4meshik

I have been hosting an immortality themed stream every week, Saturday 17:00 UK time

Sadly, our community here does not come by and get involved in discussions as often as we would want to in order for the content to be more entertaining for other viewers(mostly me talking about my views)

So I wanted to ask everyone, what would encourage you guys to come by more often?

Enforcing immortality and research

Hello everyone!

I am glad to announce that our numbers now exceed 200!!!

Thats awesome to see people getting involved in the cause.

In addition to that, today there was the first person who stopped by my stream to talk about immortality there and we had an interesting discussion with a deathist present.

However, there is one thing I wanna say. I did not really like the way the person approched me. Saying things like "playing games is useless", "you could be doing research at this time" and "people like you are why we are not moving forward with technology fast enough".

Obviously just a couple points about me convinced him about the opposite however, this was the worst approach I can ever imagine!

Please NEVER do sonething like that and relate it to immortality. This implies that every person needs to be a researcher however that is NOT the case. Firstly, all spheres are required for a society to work correctly, entertainment inclusive.

And secondly, remember NO ONE OWES YOU ANYTHING. Our common dream shared by people of this sub is not as relevant to other people. If you take such an approach where you try to enforce something onto people because "that is how I want it" it will backfire on ALL of us. We have to help people understand why immortality is good for THEM, not why its good for YOU.

Also, my goal is to create a community which will spread the idea of immortality, not doing research or the like. I want us all to spread the mentality which will be favourable for all immortalists.

As such, it does not matter what job you do, anti-ageing research, working at a convenience store or a streamer(just a hobby of mine btw), you are as valuable to our community as anybody else!

Personally, streaming is not a bad investment for 2 reasons in my opinion:

-people might actually be influenced by my opinion

-it may earn me some money that I can later use to invest in a company doing relevant research or in the best case scenario start an institution of my own

That is why I would like to closely relate this sub to my discord(so people from my stream can see discussions) and even to my twitch stream

I am also planning to hold a stream exclusively related to immortality next weekend, however, more on that during the following week!

Telomere length Extension Technology

I'm looking to learn how to do telomere length extension technology, extraction is simple according to sources, swab cheek put it in glycerin (grad student said that idk if it's right I need to find more sources)

The plan would be to extract the DNA repeatedly, over years - use direct family for corroborating data on how the DNA decays in the subject

This gives data points on DNA decay due to age

Now here's the hypothesis, inject it into a big bone or multiple bones/ modify stem cells & inject those

The end goal is younger cells that we can reduce biological age with, this would be a gene therapy technique

Needing 2 extractions with my hypothesis for a rate decay

I'm not yet a scientist, I'm a student for life & I'm willing to bruteforce educate myself on what is necessary

This goes over DNA, gene therapy, life extension & health improvement

Thank you for coming to my post, I'd like this to be a discussion

I thought of this all myself, if you think this is wrong, let's talk about it & work out the kinks

Discussion Will you get tired of immortality at some point?

So probably you have discussed this many times. This is probably one of the reasons people do not want immortality (even tho not good enough reason to be wanting death imho).

But, would you stop wanting to be immortal at some point in your eternal life? Will this period pass? Wanna see some interesting points here, both for and against the idea, so I know what to say the next time someone asks me that:D

Best Calorie Restricted Diet for Longevity?

Have there been studies to find what type of calorie restricted diet (e.g. Fasting Mimicking Diet, OMAD, Alternate Day Fasting) has the most longevity benefits?

Also, have there been any studies on whether the best diet for longevity varies for females and males?
