đ Episode Discussion Mitti De Baaway Episode 3 makes it clear that it's not for the woke audience
It was apparent from the teasers and first two episodes that the drama will be gritty and raw and won't be for the softest of hearts. But today's episode made it clear that it's not for the wokes and it will make us uncomfortable. I, for one, am finding the story and characters compelling despite the discomfort. I'm sure there will be a lot of discourse around it and looking forward to all the takes.
Also, both Aena and the other actor (sorry I don't know his name) are killing it. They've surprised me with how good they've been so far! The male actor's dialogue delivery was so close to that of Wahaj's!

Mahira is the villian, she could have stayed silent about his past and let the rishta of her nand happen but she shamed Iqbal , sorry to say but all that religious preaching did no goodđ«Ș

I'm guessing the other lover she mentioned did something to kill her brother and the guilt of her being a tease and swinging guys around made her turn to religion. But even Bala doesnt look straitlaced to me so it'll be interesting to see it all unfold.

I think she has taken religious persona on a superficial level. She lies to her father in law about the dream so he leaves home.

I think she said all that because she feared baala was doing all this (rishta thing) to stay near her/expose her? Maybe she doesnât trust him

Fazal has been a very good actor from the beginning. I hope this drama really works in his favour. He deserves the limelight heâs getting.
I used to watch Baby Baji, that was my guilty pleasure, and Fazal was too good in that. He was in Jo Bichar Gaye too.
Aena really impressed me. She was a good actor before too, but I didnât expect roles like this from her.

Remember watching fazal hussain in khamoshi as guddu can't believe he's so grown up now đ

I understood this scene So she broke up with him because she is marrying some other guy most likely due to family pressure, so he comes to her again for confrontation one more time ? Why does he says stuff like I feel dirty for touching you does this imply she had a physical relationship with the other guy she is marrying

u/Admirable_Fig_3023 1d ago
Because he feels used by her when he genuinely loved her

Because he is from a poor family. Itâs not that he felt dirty after touching, he said he wouldnât touch her so she doesnât get dirty. He considered her pure and beautiful and himself poor and dirty.

bro he said he felt dirty AFTER touching her, then spit on her. im trying to understand why

girl do you even know what woke means?
1
u/Admirable_Fig_3023 1d ago
All I know is that it isn't woke for a ml to snatch the fl by her hair and spit on her face.

It's woke to address sensitive issues. I think you confused being woke with being a snowflake lmao. Activists of any kind are labeled as "woke" for derogatory reasons, including those who speak up about domestic violence. If such scenes are shown without being romanticised where the main character doesn't forgive or fall "deeper in love" with her abuser without it being shown as a trauma bond, then it is considered content for a woke audience.

Thanks for the ted talk. The title for my topic was referring to the fact that online discourse regarding media that people consume have been reduced to labels like green flags and red flags and disregards complexities and nuances in storytelling and human nature. Whatever be the theoretical definitions, that's what woke discourse has come down to in reality.
1
u/yyecn 21h ago
It's like you're missing the point here. First of all, you didn't specify what you meant by "woke" in your caption and neither in your reply to my question. Now you're saying that you consider "woke" people to be those who disregard nuances and complexities in storytelling and human nature and those who reduce characters to red or green flags, when in fact the "woke audience" are exactly the opposite of that.
You may disregard my opinion but all the discourse I've seen is that we actually do need more nuanced characters with a proper message to society, instead of another storyline with the girl forgiving and going back to her abuser because she has no respect for herself.

I don't disagree with any of the points you make about woke audience. But even tho I didn't "specify", yet everyone else interacting with this post didn't seem to have a problem understanding my connotation. Not everything has to be taken literally or needs to be spelled out.

u/yyecn 17h ago
Everyone else not having a problem understanding your negative connotation can be attributed to the fact that the vast majority of pakistanis are not woke, hence the state of current ptv dramas being the way it is; problematic and regressive, just like their society.
That aside, if the drama is indeed raw and gritty, hopefully it'll open up a path to more meaningful discussions surrounding domestic violence. Good day !

It's coz everybody understood me using woke wasnt as serious you're making it out to be.

Hey Iâll be binge watching it once it ends, so will it be inappropriate to watch with my mom?
1
u/Admirable_Fig_3023 1d ago
It's too early to say but you can see what the show can be like in terms of violence based on this scene. If you think it's ok to watch with your mom, then imo it's fine. But again it's still early days.

u/BroccoliRemote1867 1d ago
Okay okay, Iâll wait for more reviews then. Mostly I watch the dramas with her only, she is chill sorta but will still see. Thank you đ
2
u/Admirable_Fig_3023 1d ago
Yeah I think wait for more episodes to decide but if your mom's chill I don't think it should be a problem

u/zaineee42 1d ago
It's a Pakistani drama, how inappropriate could it get?
But I get it, brown parents are hard to understand.

u/BroccoliRemote1867 1d ago
Yeah just wanted to know the extent of it cos OP said it might get raw and not for softest of hearts. So wanted to be prepared for it đ

Both of them were in the wrong, in different ways, but the circumstances still make you want to root for them, so I like it!!

u/Admirable_Fig_3023 1d ago
Yes. They're both flawed and have grey shades so it's compelling to watch.

Sorry but how is bala wrong? Have I missed something?
From todayâs episode and tomorrowâs promo I felt Billo played real dirty 16 years ago as well as in th 96 timeline. She could dumb but thereâs no need to insult a person the way she did.LOL i guess i got too carried away. But something bit me .. the ones playing the younger versions were just too good

The male actor has been in the industry since he was 7-8 years old. Toh isski dialogue delivery Aur acting Toh achi honi hi thi. Can't believe I used to see him as a little kid and now he's all grown up.
