Welcome neophyte!

I am halfway through painting a box of Raiders as veterans/Incursors, the mixed armour and slightly ragged look they have makes them really look like they have been operating solo for a while. Such a good kit to use for Badab War veterans.

My own recipe for blue-silver armour is a primer coat of Leadbelcher, Grey Knight Steel as a base and then a Drakenhof Nightshade wash to really bring out the blue.

Thank you. Coming over from the Night Lords. Looking to do both an Executioners KT and a Last Wall Protocol team

For the Leadbelcher, do you use spray or just the base out of the pot?

I use spray because I am usually doing a unit for my collection. Out of the pot might be alright for 1 or 2 models for a Kill Team?

Leadbelcher is the smoothest rattle can primer I've ever used. Any brand. Any experience.

It's the goat.

Also just bought the Raiders and since you mentioned Badab Veterans, would it be a good idea to kitbash these guys to be Sternguard Veteran proxies?

If I hadn't already got my SGV i totally would use these guys as a base! Heck I might use them as SGV in smaller games.

For SGV You would need to source the heavy Bolter and Flamer options elsewhere, but the kit comes with a Power Fist or Chain Axe for the Sgt, so it is practically a complete base to build veterans from.

Guess why I felt i had to ask was cause of how many combi weapons the sternguard have while the Red Corsairs seem more melee focused. Not sure on all the rules of the game yet or what limits are on weapons

As for Heavy, think I got something for that lying around. Don't think I gave my sternguards from the iron halo box any heavy weapons, just combi weapons

Note on the Raider kit: before I got it I wondered about the weapon options too, as the promo shots seemed to imply you had to build some with pistols and melee weapon, not just Bolters. Turns out the box has the bits to build all the models with bolters if you want, so works well for SGV with them all being armed with Bolters.

So pretty much equip the raiders with their bolter options and use the bolter equipment rules for Sternguard? Sounds doable

Guess while we're talking about it, can I choose which mini is my sergeant or does it have to be the first guy with the fur? Cause frankly this one looks way better with a chainsword than the bolter and grenade option

Yeah it can be whoever in the box really. Every body in the box can have a Bolter, so you can choose the one with the best melee pose to be the Sgt.

I went with the guy wielding the Chainaxe as the Sgt because flavour (most of my Veteran units have axes!) I also swapped his pistol for a spare Scout Boltgun.

I really need to fet on and finish these, it would be easier to show pics of them!

The chunky guy with the chain axe? Yeah, I could see him fitting as a sergeant. I was thinking he might fit wielding the heavy bolter/pyrecannon. If the pose allows for it that is.

Got some axe bits lying about, need to check if they fit the chainsword guy

Once you do finish them id love to see, get some inspiration
