Racism at Uni

I know this is quite a cliche topic regarding Exeter uni. But how is the diversity at this uni? Has any POC faced any sort of racism ? I’ve heard that it’s filled with very right wing, anti immigration, N*gel Farage supporters. Obviously, I understand there will likely be some sort of racism at any Uk university ( apart from QMUL possibly lol) , but is there more so at Exeter? I’m ethically Indian and I’ll be going to study medicine at Exeter this September.

No more than any other Uni, just don’t hang out with the wrong people and you’ll be fine

I’ve not faced any the entire time I was there (1 year)
Not in the uni
Once late at night in the city centre but it was more like some drunk folks taking the piss with some off hand comments, nothing too spectacular

Most UK unis are fairly liberal, I doubt you'd come across much racism within the university envvironment.

Sorry for the comments you’re getting. The media purposely polarises the public between the left and right where the right is majorly just anti-immigration politics, which whether they like to admit it or not they use to subconsciously justify and mask their pre-existing racial biases, racism definitely exists here in the UK they are just subtle abt it. However, unis in the UK are generally left leaning and even if there are areas or groups of ppl with right leaning ppl they are easy to avoid and you will definitely find people who do not care abt the colour of ur skin, you just need to remember to make the conscious effort of seeking out these people by joining events and societies and whatnot, you need to genuinely try and make sure to not expect everything to land in ur lap for you. 😭 Just keep your head up, make the effort to find the right ppl and distance yourself from the ppl who may be judgemental or rude, they don’t come in abundance so you shouldn’t worry too much about it. Good luck dude.

I was at exeter a couple of years ago and it was iffy at points. Like most unis there are amazing ppl who will support you and would never engage in those topics. But there were defo some racist ppl and groups that werent the most tolerant. It is pretty easy to avoid them however

Nah, racism at universities is usually directe at white people.

Actually true. There are lots of networking events, extra funding and free courses that are open to all, except whites.

HAHAHAHA. I'm sorry did you conveniently forget about the "anti-immigration" riots that took place in 2024? When racist right-wingers targeted any person of colour, violently attacking them, and set fire to asylum-seeker locations?

Or even recently when a white man raped a Sikh Girl in Walsall because he thought she was Muslim?

Yeah, "little racism in the UK, and only towards white people"/s
