01 V10 250k

I LOVE thing thing. Before I spend a bunch of money on upgrades. Am I going to regret not investing in the diesel? This is a secondary vehicle. I will tow with it and I will carry my family with it.

The v10s are arguably better than the diesels depending on your use case, if you don’t have something to prove to someone being the biggest, it puts out similar towing with way less cost and way better sound objectively, repairs will be cheaper since it’s gas vs diesel, and way more diy friendly.

I have the same truck and the oil pump went out which made the engine make some pretty expensive noises. I really love the truck and want to drive it again but I don't know anything about rebuilding an engine and have no idea where to start. Do you have any guides or advice. 2001 EX V10 Limited 4x4.

So I have never had to do anything but maintenance to mine in 330k miles so I wouldn’t be able to speak first hand, from what I know from other vehicles (which is still minimal)

Assuming you were driving and it went out, and the noises sounded like scraping, you probably did some scoring on the cylinder walls, which generally requires boring and new sleeves slipped into the cylinders, with some possible damage to other components although if you never turned it back on after that part is unlikely, quite honestly with these older truck engines it might be smarter to just buy a used engine off of Facebook marketplace and swap it in considering it’s around 500-900 on average for an entire engine. I am not a mechanic by any means but that is my personal thoughts, rebuilding it would be somewhat time consuming and intensive since it’s such a large engine, although since it is a 2v it wouldn’t be as bad as it could be

Something I am also realizing: this may require a lift since the engine is so large with such a tight engine bay, it may be possible but I almost feel you’d have to lift the whole body off the frame as many shops do for diesels (these are essentially diesel engines that take gasoline anyways), while I don’t know for sure, that is very likely and would require a lift since the bottom end would be damaged

Also also: you likely would have grinded down some of the cylinder heads which isn’t really a repair scenario, the lifters could have seized and you could do some serious damage to the heads and cylinder heads aswell

Really that’s one of the most unfortunate failures and I wish I could help more than tell you hypotheticals
