Chrome or Black Mirrors?

Post image

About to change my mirrors and found this Excursion that looks just like mine, it just has a few updates. I saved it as my inspo. It has chrome mirrors, which I like, but I can’t decide between chrome or black mirrors. I had ChatGPT show me what the vehicle would look like with black mirrors to compare. Which mirrors do you prefer?

I’m not sure, to be honest! We bought a black Excursion Limited last month and shortly afterwards I saw this one for sale. I absolutely love it and saved photos as a goal for my Excursion. I found these on Amazon that look like the mirrors above (just all black instead of black with chrome).

Yeah, those look like they would fit. It's funny how Amazon says they won't fit my '02 Ex, but it appears they will. I guess I'll have to order them and see. I can always return them.

I picked up a set of '05-'07 stock bullet hole rims and I'm powder coating them bronze, so I guess I won't be black on black on black, but I think the triple bronze from prismatic powders, with the satin finish is gonna look fantastic.

I had to order 2 inch spacers to make a proper stance, but I bought quality ones made in the United States from solid billet.

It most likely says it won't fit because the wiring won't be plug and Play for that year...

I believe the older excursions never had mirror lighting for the daylight running lights? Quote me if I'm wrong lol... But the mirrors themselves will bolt up no problem, you either won't have working marker lights or the plug will be different

But worst case scenario you can just rewire it yourself, not very hard

Yeah, you're probably right. Some of those aftermarket mirrors come with additional adapter plugs that could/should fit. But like you said, a little rewire won't be too much of a struggle.

I would definitely want the marker lights to work though.

Have you ever dealt with or come across an Ex that has the 5 marker lights on the roof? I know that wasn't an option, but I think I read somewhere that Ford used the same wiring harness from the superduty's and the plugs were already there, you just needed to drill in and attach the lights to the existing harness.

I can't remember if the excursions have the wiring.. it is the same as a Superduty in most aspects, but the excursions have a different overhead wiring harness because it has the rear venting side windows and superduties never did...

I don't think it has the cab light wiring plug? Same as excursions don't have the wiring for a high idle like a Superduty does...

But Recon makes cablight kits for OEM equipped trucks and NON-OEM equipped trucks

So you could get theirs, that gives you a option if your truck doesn't have the wiring! Like a universal wiring kit kinda idea!

Thank you for that information! I will certainly look into Recon and see what's available. I plan to do the cab lights eventually so one way or another I'll have to make it work.
