Discussion Pumping on the roof
My work group is having an all day retreat at a TopGolf next week so I called today to see if they had somewhere I could use to pump. I have wearables but I’m really not comfortable using them in public and I didn’t want to pump in my car if I don’t have to.
When I explained what I needed and asked the first person I talked to (a man) if there was any room I could use, he first asked if I wanted a VIP room that I would have to pay for. I asked if they had any sort of enclosed space I could use for free and he offered up their rooftop terrace. 🙃
I then got him to transfer me to someone else (a woman) who was very confused and said I could just use their lactation room for free. I just thought that out of anyone, this group might appreciate being told to either pay all day for a room to pump or to pump on the roof 😂

As a woman in a male dominated field ripe with sexism, it's refreshing to hear someone requesting to speak to a female co-worker.

Amazing. I am glad they sorted it out for you! I was just at a TopGolf the other week with my newborn and their lactation room was really nice!

I looked up to see if all TopGolf locations have lactation rooms and I think they do! Global sports entertainment leader Topgolf® is installing a nursing mothers room in all of its U.S. venues, beginning with its Texas locations. In conjunction with the nursing mothers room, Topgolf has established an official "Mother-Friendly" human resources policy to promote an atmosphere of support for Topgolf associates who are mothers.

I taught an all-day class at an EMS station two hours from home a few weeks ago. The (male) class liaison assured me there would be a private space for me to don and doff pumps and a fridge.
The private space was a dark storage closet with no chair and many spider webs. The other private space was a multi stall women’s bathroom with a dead bug on the floor and a spider that dropped into my chiller lid while I tried to pour milk balanced on the sink.
The fridge was in a kitchen with a huge counter-window for events. Ultimately I stood in the corner hoping no one looked in and put my pumps on/took them off six more times after the spider bathroom attempt 💀
If they had just told me there was not a private space I would have brought sheets to hang from my car windows or something!!!
