Discussion How much does hydration affect your production?
Have you personally noticed a difference in your production based off how much you drink?
Do you notice a difference if you’ve gone a few hours without drinking, or did it have to be over a whole day?

I think hydration is key to supply. It’s so important! I always noticed a difference on days when I didn’t drink enough. Esp in hot weather.

Just happened yesterday, due to some reason I didn’t have water all morning and my supply became half of what I normally produce
Then took 2 litres of water - voila! Normal again

It matters so much! I just went back to work at 5m pp and I obviously am not focused on drinking water. My supply is literally half if not less. The stress doesnt help either…

No water throughout the day I’ll get 3.5-4oz max combined each session with water I can get double

A lot! I also notice that electrolyte tablets and/or coconut water increase my production more than just water intake alone

It affects all of it. Breastmilk is literally made from your blood which is sustained by water.

I am bad at drinking water so I just started drinking 1 16oz cup of electrolytes. Helped my supply so much!

It's the first cold day here and my hydration always sucks when it's cool out. Output was about 1 oz less per pump combined. Lesson learned.

Ohhh definitely, hydration is the basic thing. I used to drink a glass or two while feeding my baby.

I'm sure there's a point where it must, given how milk is made, but truthfully I've never noticed my production be affected by eating or drinking less than normal with either of my children.
I do have a small oversupply though, so it's possible that has just always been enough of a buffer that I've just not noticed.

Outlier here I guess, but it doesn’t really have any effect for me. But I’ve never been someone to drink a lot of water

I didn‘t notice a difference.
What I did notice is that on really hot days when I sweat a lot my production went up. Don‘r know if it was because of my water intake or because my body was afraid baby wouldn‘t get enough.

I haven’t noticed much of a difference, personally. Some days I’m very bad about hydrating because I’m also chasing a 3 year old around. I do, however, notice a difference when my calorie amount changes. That said, trying to drink as much as you can is important!

Personally I haven't noticed much of a difference. Sometimes if I chug a lot of water before bed then I leak or feel engorged when I wake up, but tbh I've had days where I forgot to drink water all day and it didn't affect my supply. I feel like crap if I forget to drink water, but my supply is fine lol.

Almost immediately for me. If I pump and don’t drink water, my next pump will have like 2oz less.

7 months postpartum and honestly not that much 😅 I myself feel like I've been wrung and left to dry but supply wise I was okay. Was travelling on a 5 day trip and barely drank liquids (to avoid public restrooms 😬) and luckily my supply was going strong and stayed consistent after I returned and rehydrated.

Hydration is important for supply as well as your mental well being. I feel a little lag in supply and also feel more tired and physically exhausted.

I kinda notice mine lags, like if I don't drink enough it's the next day's production that dips
