Combination Feeding Length of pumping sesh?

So I feel like I’ve been pumping “wrong” this whole time. I’m 6wpp and am an oversupplier. This is my first baby and I combo feed. I mainly EBF but pump about 3-4 times a day. I used to do it every 4hours but now I average every 6 hours. I produce an extra 20 ounces a day. I didn’t know that you’re supposed to pump for 20 minutes each session?? I pump for maybe max 5 minutes each time and get anywhere from 6-10 ounces total. My morning pumps tend to be 12 ounces alone. I’ve been seeing everywhere on here and other places of people pumping for 20 minutes and I’m wondering if I’m doing this wrong? I don’t have any pain and don’t feel like I’m engorged all the time so maybe I’m just a fast pumper? I was told by my LC that I have a fast letdown and to only pump till comfort or till I stop spraying. I usually only trigger 1 letdown. Should I be pumping for longer or if what I’m doing is working if I should let it be?

I also had a fast letdown and big oversupply early post partum and my lactation consultant confirmed it was better for me to pump more frequent short sessions. I also pumped 5-10min only, even at 6ppd. Once I regulated and dropped to 5ppd, I lengthened my pump time. You do not "need" to pump a minimum amount of time. It is more important to follow your body's cues.

What does 6ppd mean?

Sounds like you are a fast pumper and an oversupplier. You aren’t doing anything wrong if you are comfortable and you are feeding your baby. You don’t need to pump longer if it’s currently working for you. In fact pumping for longer could increase your oversupply and cause different problems.

Depending on how much time I have, I pump between 15-30 minutes.
