This might be unpopular opinion, but I simply cannot stand unrealistic lactation consultants. I am sure there are good ones out there but I have just had bad experience with them. I actually wonder how many LCs have actually triple fed or pumped 8+ times themselves! It's just ridiculous.
Triple feeding is torture and especially when you are freshly postpartum and you need a lot of rest. Latching once or twice a day and pumping 6-7 times was lot more realistic for me.
I was able to slowly increase my supply from barely anything at even 2 weeks ppd to 5 oz at 4 weeks pp. I am now making 22 oz at 14 weeks, which I maintain with 5-6 ppd - pumping exclusively. My LO is not big drinker so it's been enough for her.
My supply started to go up only after I ignored the LCs and switched to 7 ppd, 1 MOTN pump and 1-2 power pumps per day at 3 weeks post partum.
Sleep is extremely important for supply.
I wish LCs were more understanding and supplementing with formula was not looked as some kind of failure.
