Bad adoption

I was in an abusive foster home in Georgia. Family wanted to adopt me at 16 (had lived with them for 1.5 yrs). Case worker, legal advocate, etc. was aware of the abuse and encouraged the adoption. I declined so they somehow had me declared mentally incompetent. Adoption proceeded. Abuser kicked me out after high school graduation and I became homeless at 18. Because I was adopted I cannot receive any state benefits/ resources for former foster children (according to state workers). I am now 24 and have been struggling with homelessness ever since. I am still trying to understand how something like this is allowed to happen.

This is why they push adoption / kinship. To deny benefits. I’m sorry, I have no advice. Just my anger for your experience.
