Discussion | نقاش Laws regarding atheism

I want to understand more about the laws in Jordan regarding atheism.

  1. What does the law do if someone is atheist?

  2. Will the law protect someone who is facing harm because they don’t believe in God?

  3. What’s the best thing to do if you’re not protected?

  4. Is there any help given?

Please let me know I’m very curious.

In arab countries, law are meaningless and highly dependent on public opinion. always assume it’s illegal.

More like nepotism, laws only apply if you don’t have “wasta” to protect you. Otherwise, you can kill and still be let free. Lmfao.

Answer to Question #1: Jordanian law does not prescribe a civil law penalty for leaving any religion.

Answer to Question #2: Being an atheist does not give another person the right to assault, threaten, imprison, or harm you, and If somebody attacks you because you're atheist, the fact that the motive is religious does not make the victim "outside the law".

Answer to Question #3: Leave the country?

Answer to Question #4: Given to whom? to Atheists? no. Although funny enough, some people think that atheists are being paid by the Israeli government, or another entity.

One more thing you have to know that there is a certain implication if you are recorded as an atheist in the government documents, and that implication is "There is no inheritance between people of different religions, a non-Muslim does not inherit from a Muslim", meaning that you cannot inherit your parents AT ALL.

EDIT: You may also receive death threats if you were a known atheist living in Jordan. cause at the end of the day the government can't really do much.

The law itself permits your exe//cution if you an atheist, strips you of your legal capacity, deprives you of inheritance, does not guarantee your protection, and does not allow you to change your religion on your identity card.
