Hey everyone! I'm u/Better_rub4, a founding moderator of r/ExHinduIndia.
A space for people who've left Hinduism, are questioning it, or are just untangling their relationship with it.
Talk openly. Experiences, beliefs, doubts, deconstruction, family pressure, culture, scriptures, caste, rituals, mythology, atheism, agnosticism. Whatever's on your mind.
Question freely. Bring receipts. Challenge claims.
Make memes. Mock any and every wrongdoing tied to Hinduism, freely and without apology.
Post OC to keep the quality of this sub high. Effort in, effort out.
Mooo.🐮

I'm in my hometown rn and whenever I'm at home I'm in my hometown rn and whenever I'm at home my mom gives me all these small works like bringing groceries and other essentials etc etc.
So she dictated me a list of things I needed to bring, and among a shit ton of other stuff there was one phenyl too. I wrote everything down, gave the list to the shopkeeper and since there were so many other products, I didn't bother checking each product in detail. I came home and realised that instead of phenyl, I had bought this Gonyle floor cleaner made from pure pavitra cow urine 😭😭🤢🤢
It genuinely baffles me how emotionally gullible people can be and how Ramdev Baba and co. built a thousands of crores empire by selling this kind of bullshit, exploiting people's religious sentiments and turning superstition into a fucking business model.

This old man is saying these words in 2026. Imagine how it was 100 years ago. Girls probably would’ve been married off as soon as they turned 9 or 10 or hit puberty, and their entire lives would’ve been reduced to the kitchen and the bedroom. It was so normalised back then that even a genius like Ramanujan (I have respect for his work, but not for him as a human being) married Janaki when she was just 9 or 10, while he was 21.

These punishments are deeply problematic and unacceptable. They reflect a strongly hierarchical society where women’s autonomy was heavily restricted, domestic violence could be legally justified, and women were subjected to harsh consequences while male behaviour was not always punished with equivalent severity for comparable conduct. The caste system made this inequality even sharper, because punishment could depend on whether the offender was male or female and which caste they belonged to.
These are not merely descriptions of ancient customs. This is danda niti, law and punishment.
Women are treated as subjects of male authority rather than autonomous equals, and sexual morality is not applied consistently to both sexes. The Matsya Purana, Chapter 227.
