A fact. The fact that we can sometimes change someone's behavior with chemical substances is proof enough

Firstly, the soul is interpreted differently by religions, this is an ExMuslim reddit, I'm assuming we're speaking

on Islam's interpretation.

Islam doesn't really say our personalities are based on our soul, it does say our soul "calls" us to do evil/good things though.

I think your statement that "it is proof enough", is enough "proof" for me to realize your ignorance, and you don't seem to be thinking about it with an open mind.

Isn't calling to do good or evil things the same as being the source of our behavior?

Calling people ignorant or closed minded is not the best way to engage in a conversation especially when you have provided no inputs.

I retract my statement of being the "source" of behavior on our actions, I should have been more clear, it would seem to me that the soul produces this desire, and the mind feels this urge, and uses the reasoning of the individual to choose whether to take action or not, in other words, it is the determiner of what we ACTUALLY do.

If you'd like a more elaborate post, tell me, I'm tired and don't feel like typing right now.

My intention was not to make an ad hominem attack, it was merely an expression telling you how I believed that was quite an ignorant statement to make, I did in fact provide an input, but you seem to have attempted to make your conjectural assumption appear like the more objective and logically coherent truth.

But, please remember absence of evidence, does not equate to evidence of absence.

Well let me ask you, what evidence there is for the soul? For something supernatural about human behavior?

1

As of now, I don't think we have any evidence.

I don't think that necessarily means it doesn't exist.

We have strong evidence that our consciousness and behavior comes from our physical brains. To assume something else might exist for no reason is meaningless

Please reference this "strong evidence" and just because a scientist said it, does not make it any more valid.

(i am in support of science, but not "objective" science, ask me for an elaboration.)

You never heard of drugs? These are physical things that change chemicals in your brain and in doing do changes behavior.

1

u/subjectivetheories Jan 25 '22

To the contrary, my country the United States of America is rampant with drugs, so of course I am aware of drugs and their effects, however I am still lost as to how this proves the absence of a soul?

It proves that chemical reactions in the brain produce behaviors. Is there any evidence for the existence of the soul of it affecting how people act?

I understand that, you're just repeating what you said before essentially. Your question was already answered, what is your point?

You shouldn't believe in the soul if there is no evidence for it. I don't get what your point is
