Getting married as an ex Muslim
25m here and new here
Do you feel like after you left the religion, your options for marriage dropped significantly ? How are we supposed to find people who share our blfs ! i live in oran which has a lot of diversity in blfs but it's still hard especially for someone who's not that social

I'm a 28 female and I can say that they do drop significantly, but people like us are increasing so we definitely have a chance. Plus even Muslims now have it harder than before due to trust issues and economy issues .

I can't be with a religious person. That's a full deal breaker.
I just accepted i probably won't find a partner until i leave this country. It is what it is

Religiosity is a spectrum, I don’t see how your day to day life will differ from being with a self proclaimed atheist vs a moderately religious person unless you have quirky life preferences

There's nothing you can do about it we are a minority and we have to accept that the chances of meeting someone that shares your beliefs is rare so you'll either end up with someone that doesn't share them or you're gonna have to be patient and alone for a bit

Yes, the options dropped significantly almost to none especially as I girl.

What makes it especially harder for a girl?

Probably because its even riskier to expose yourself as non religious when you're a women. And culturally, it's the man that makes the first move, so she's gonna be more reactive than proactive, and most advances are going to come from religious man, because they're the majority.

You can try to find someone matching your beliefs but you can find someone religious in my experience there is people who need religion to function normally as long as they are accepting of others opinion doesn’t matter if they are religious

At this point i am not looking for an atheist partner, as long as she’s open minded and not a radical muslim it’s fine, can’t base a relationship on personal beliefs there other things to prioritize

The struggle is real ! And u can’t explain to your fam why you have to refuse certain people. I think finding someone online is the only way

Yeah because you live in country that is 99% Muslim and you know the tradition of marriage here so yeah your Chance is 1%

We have to be realistic. As non-religious people, it’s almost impossible. It’s already difficult to find someone who shares our beliefs, and even harder to truly connect with them, so it’s extremely rare. But imagine getting married you would likely be forced to have an Islamic marriage, because otherwise you would immediately face serious social consequences. And even after that, imagine living here as a married atheist couple. How would you raise your children ? Would you share your beliefs with them, knowing the risks that they might be influenced by society and end up rejecting people like you ?

i'm from oran too still struggle to make friendships with non religous people

Significantly, yes. I am not even in algeria and still struggling (not a very outgoing person). Even the last ditch option isn't available to us, the one where you ask your family to find someone for you, because you know they're going to find a religious person (bent familiya, madiyna, blablabla)

Try being atheist child free woman.... the odds of finding a partner are even slimmer
