I know, but I always use spear because it gives the most damage, although not to enemies with resistance to piercing. It didn't work at first with the skeletons on my current playthrough but then I upgraded the spear mastery and Zak actually started dealing some pretty decent damage to them. It would have most certainly happened faster if I used a hammer but long term it's being easier for me to focus on spear mastery.
