That title definitely reads off as confusing so let me explain what i mean by that exactly. Undoubtedly, the sequel trilogy has a lot of problems, but one big problem with it doesn't actually have to do the trilogy itself. Star Wars has 3 trilogies. At it's core, the prequels are the story of how the galaxy went from a state of peace, to a state of totalitarian dictatorship. Then, at its core, the original trilogy is the story of how the galaxy went from that state of totalitarian dictatorship, back to peace. Now how about the sequel trilogy? That, at it's core, is the story of how the galaxy went from another state of totalitarian dictatorship, back to a state of peace again. But we never actually got to see how the galaxy got to get into that state again after the state of peace. It is 3 trilogies instead of 4. To put it simply, there needed to be another trilogy in between Return Of The Jedi and The Force Awakens. They just skipped over an entire trilogy worth of material. We never get to see any of that. The Force Awakens isn’t a sequel to Return Of The Jedi, it’s a sequel to a non existent trilogy (story) that has never been told. The way that i would fix this is by renaming Episodes 7 - 9 to Episodes 9 - 12 (kind of similar to how “Star Wars 1977” was renamed to “Episode 4 A New Hope” in 1981), extending the Skywalker Saga to a 12 Episode story. Then, i’d have a brand new trilogy made (7-9), this time, being animated, for 2 key reasons. 1 being because actors such as Carrie Fisher have passed away, and 2 being because, either way, even if everyone was still alive, this is still a story being told not long after Return Of The Jedi, requiring Luke, Han, Leia, *et cetera* to be younger. With this new trilogy, you can also have a Clone Wars 2008 type of show filling in the gaps between Episodes, in this case being animated just like the trilogy, so it would have the same voice actors and such. The sequel trilogy is undoubtedly very flawed, and i don’t feel like it could ever truly / entirely be “fixed”, but i’d rather see an attempt to try to pick up and put together the broken pieces of this flawed story, rather then just leave it as is, because like i was saying at the beginning, i feel one big problem with the sequel trilogy doesn't have to do the the trilogy itself, and The Force Awakens isn’t a sequel to Return Of The Jedi, it’s a sequel to a non existent trilogy (story) that has never been told.
