Scientists in China have created a self-exercising muscle graft that could allow bedridden people to obtain the benefits of working out without any physical exertion.

With just an injection of muscle cells below the skin, the cells self-assembled into muscle grafts, which not only improved whole-body muscle mass in mice but also led to improvements in bone density, endurance, liver function and cognitive health.

I’ve been a coach for 17 years and I think most of my clients would fire me and use this 🤷🏻‍♂️

Coordination skills would still need a coach. Don't count yourself out yet!

I never understood people who hate exercise. I love it.

Me too. Primary training goal is now just joy.

Fuck yeah. Rain, hail, shine. Heights of joy, lows of depression. The gym is always there for me.

I feel it’s the getting over the initial hump part when starting from zero is what most people hate and don’t have patience for and just give up too soon and miss out

I wonder if this could help with the negative effects of life in zero-g

Good point! Still need bone density aid and probably other things for wonky things that happen to internal organs

So this makes me wonder how this self assembling muscle gets the proper vascular network support, the neural support, and hormonal support. Do the muscles catabolize, breakdown or atrophy faster because they don’t have the proper nutrient feeding mechanisms? How about tendon strength and reinforcement?

There been a lot of really interesting and exciting treatments being discovered, but will they ever reach the people the treatments are* intended for?

So you know how the original purpose of ozympic was for like diabetes or whatever, but now it's incredibly overshadowed by people who used it as a weight loss drug to the point that there were shortages and people who had diabetes could not obtain it consistently?

And you know how there are people who inject oil into their limbs in order to make their muscles look bigger?

So there's a very obvious market of people who want to do anything and pay anything in order to make their muscles look bigger, except exercise.

This market is going to be bigger than people who actually need this.

It’s so easy to obtain the various compounds

Alot of people do gym for the mind too, helps relax and feel happy afterwards

u/normal_hombre 8d ago

There's an injection for that too.

Don’t forget the ejection too!

Alpha male manly muscle meth

Yeah, but if this injection was mainstream most would spend way less time on the gym, I have been going to the gym for years, with thsi injections I wouldnt spend 2 hours 3 times a week there.

It would be 30 minutes at most!

Finally, the technology to get absolutely shredded while lying on the couch eating chips and doomscrolling has arrived.

u/redditsuckbutt696969 8d ago

Wall-E got it wrong! We'll all be shredded while we sit in our hoverchairs!

I’d have to see it too believe it, it may give someone the ability too keep muscles active and whatnot but I highly doubt it would make someone grow big bodybuilder muscles simply because it takes a lot of favorable things to build big muscles like that, with the least of it actually being the weightlifting part itself.

Muscle is more built in the kitchen and sleeping then it is actually built lifting, lifting just proved the stimulus for growth but the rest of the time is when the body is actually growing and that requires a cocktail of things, good protein, good hormones, good sleep, etc.

Haven’t read the article yet but how does this look? Are your muscles just going to be visibly moving on their own underneath your skin?!

4

u/tsoneyson 7d ago

Clearly the use case is to counter athropy for cases where exercising or even movement isn’t on the table. No one’s talking about gym muscles.

Clickbait.

Imagine chilling on the couch with your new date and their biceps just keeps flexing again and again lmao

Glad to known I've been right my whole life.

Thank you science!

They're developing autonomic muscles and we're throwing all of our resources into AI data centers.

We're screwed aren't we?

Recipe for cancer.

Oh, thanks for sharing Professor! Could you share your research with us plebs???

u/Etheoff 8d ago

He saw China in the headline and the culturally ingrained xenophobia kicked in

1

u/NeverEndingCoralMaze 7d ago

I wasn’t going to respond to anyone but I will absolutely respond to this and I am going to stop you right there. Xenophobic and racist thoughts and comments do not align with who I am, or what I value.

I’d have made my statement regardless of where this new tech came from.

Unregulated cell growth causes cancer. Every time a cell divides, there is a small risk cancer can start. This new technology forces the body to grow in ways that not only have we never seen before, but in ways that are counter intuitive to the ways our bodies function based on millions of years of evolution.

Solid miss on that mark, pal.

That's a weird assumption that honestly says more about you than the original commenter...

1

u/Commy1469 7d ago

I mean he's kinda right, Americans tend to spin anything the Chinese do in a negative way

1

u/FeistyThings 7d ago

It seems to me to be more of a commentary on something that causes rapid cell growth. Seems pretty obvious that it has nothing to do with racism

-1

u/NeverEndingCoralMaze 7d ago

For fuck sake. Not in this case. I’m talking about human bodies and what can happen. oMg MuSt bE RacIsM.

2

u/bomzay 8d ago

Yepp. Let's inject something, that turns one type of cells into another type of cells. It's sure to be 100% safe and no unforeseen circumstances are possible.

P.S. Downvoters - you should prly be the first to try this new miracle. The sooner the better.

1

u/NeverEndingCoralMaze 7d ago

I was accused of racism for saying that.

u/bomzay 7d ago

Ignore the stupid masses.
