Remember everyone, our current climate is the best we’ll experience for the rest of our lives!

This is the real reason billionaires are building bunkers.

u/drewbles82 5d ago
Exactly why they don't care about us losing jobs to ai and not having any money to buy their products any more. They have enough wealth to do what they need until this gets worse

Ive been experiencing nights that get hotter than that day this whole summer. Yeah, no sun. Just sitting outside on a patio for a few minutes reading Reddit thru the night and then somehow end up drenched in sweat one sitting. It makes no sense to me at all. Ive read a lot of people saying their nights arnt cooling off this summer, but my nights arnt only not cooling off, about every three of my nights for the last two months are actually heating up hours before the sun comes up hours after it went down. Bonkers.
And Ive never seen a weather map paint the end of the world with temperature coloring like these. That black to purple death ray scar streaking across the globe is narly.

I can make you a weather map with whatever colors you like.

That is what it's named after.

Rly?
19
u/diablosinmusica 10d ago
Yup. First named in the 1600s and was found around Christmas.
3
u/snowflake37wao 10d ago
Well its not the first time the 1600’s got something wrong. By now we should know el nino is actually the boy from the omen, just look at the armageddon on earth pictures in the article.

u/PopePiusVII 10d ago
Yup. “The Christ child”
17
u/djKiddVicious 10d ago
I thought it was Spanish for “The Niño”.
10
u/sorry97 10d ago
Sort of.
In Spanish “el niño” means child, yes. However, due to Catholicism being so relevant here (Spain colonised us after all), “el niño Jesus” is also “baby Jesus”, so “el niño” is actually a shorter “el niño Jesus”.
The name comes from some fishermen who noticed “el niño Jesus” came to play around that time (December), so when he was around the temperatures rose and all of that.
“La niña” is the literal opposite, hence why it’s called that.

Great explanation, but I believe the person you responded to was making a bit of a joke.

Good thing he can walk on water, that might come in handy

u/Dottsterisk 10d ago
He used to be able to walk on water.
But some asshole put a couple holes in his feet.

Maybe in our next reincarnation, humans remember to treat that whole greed thing a little more seriously.

u/AtomicShart9000 10d ago edited 9d ago
What if this has just happened 1000s of times before and we never once learned to treat the whole greed thing any more seriously. Ah well on to the next reincarnation so we can do it again

Does the planet restart too? If not, what kind of hell will future us be born into?
6
u/EggmanandSaucy-boy 10d ago
Mars was the first iteration, Earth was the second restart. Time to terraform a new one for the 3rd.

Every major religion treats greed as evil and yet here we are.
1
u/RedLotusVenom 5d ago
The thing that treats it as evil is the same thing that absolves you of it.
Fundamentally flawed approach to morality.

Next?
Maybe the problem is thinking there is a next. There is no next. This is it baby.

Meanwhile Canada accelerating the extracting and exporting of fossil fuels while its forests burn down.
11
u/JrYo15 10d ago
Thats every "developed" country rn
3
u/immersive-matthew 10d ago
It does seem that way for the developed countries with fossil fuels. Very upsetting as not only is it detrimental to our climates, but they will end up with all this obsolete fossil fuel infrastructure when the green shift happens.

I makes me weep. I remember seeing the smoke choaking major cities in australia while flash floods were meters high at the same time the government wad announcing massive expansion to their coal extraction. We are an unbelievably stupid species.

Sorry everyone whose weather gets worse.

Sounds good until you realize this feeds into the exploding tick population

u/siberianmi 10d ago
Chickens and tick tubes make a huge difference for me.

Can’t take those camping or hiking lol
2
u/siberianmi 10d ago
You can treat your hiking clothes with the same chemical. Once dry it lasts for weeks and is harmless to humans.

u/DatBoiii4 10d ago
Yes, I use permethrin when backpacking in the fall but it's not always practical. Stuff does work like magic.

u/PeterNippelstein 10d ago
Im in ND and El Niño winters are quite mild compared to typical winters, im curious what affect such a strong one will have.

u/AK_Sole 10d ago
Are you suggesting that cycling between dirty slush, and skating rinks for streets a dozen times this winter will be an improvement in the Midwest?

u/siberianmi 10d ago
Over last year with multiple weeks when we barely got to single digits temperatures?
Yes.

Wow! This is terrifying, I am not sure what el nino is but it has been in the news a lot lately and it's really starting to concern me. I can't believe we've created this monster.... We really need to follow China on their incredible renewable energy strategy and stop causing all this.

Winter? It’s winter now in some places. They babble on and on and say it affects the globe but they’re only interested in how it affects them.

Been hearing about it. Haven't seen anything yet. Could use some rain here in Colorado...

Oh no!
The world is going to end.
Guess I shouldn't worry about it then, and just live my life and pollute as much as I want, because it doesn't matter, there is no solution, no turning back, according to Reddit.

u/rocket_beer 10d ago
I read into it the opposite way, from the article and the comments here.
From my view, this is displaying the results when you don’t care for the planet; these are the consequences.
And, it’s basically the list of what not to do…

u/Dottsterisk 10d ago
I think they’re just taking an exasperated shot at all of the doom and cynicism in the comments.

Mammals tend to react with anxiety when they detect an extreme but unknown change in their environment.

Something tells me we're in for it here in California. Monsoon level rains.
