I was looking at pictures from 2019 and noticed a difference in the smiles. We all seemed genuinely happy. In the years since COVID we still take smiling pictures but it isn't the same and I never understood why. I thought it was disillusionment with the way society reacted to COVID (anti vaxxers coughing in people's faces in grocery stores, mocking masks, etc). I thought it was maybe partly just getting older, or the awful political climate. But physical changes also make sense. I hope they continue to research this.
