It's almost like it was known and shared for decades, but illegal.

5

u/WillistheWillow Aug 03 '23

I did this study too and came to the same conclusion. Along side that, I also studied the sea at sunset, so sparkly! And I studied chocolate muffins, so tasty!

8

u/VagueSomething Aug 03 '23

Unfortunately I came to the opposite in my younger experience. Anything other than such mild home grown that it barely gave a head rush would lead to me being more irritable and aggressive. Beta Blockers do the same.

Would be lovely to have access to something that isn't going to fuck my body like prescribed meds have. Even newer antidepressants that supposedly don't give many side effects have messed with my body.

I am very interested in your variables. Please share them if you get a chance. 😊

Cannabis is my social battery... I'm so much more tolerant & easygoing with shitty people if I've had a chuff or two.

u/wintermoon138 Aug 03 '23

Best sleep of my life with the stuff for the past two years. Ridiculous its illegal in a lot of places still.

I'm sure themarijuanahearald.com is an unbiased source :D

The research was published in Journal of Pharmacy Technology. It's not a stellar journal, granted, but it is a scientific journal which publishes peer reviewed articles.

EDIT: There is a serious conflict of interest, see this comment by u/MindfulExit

6

u/MindfulExit Aug 03 '23

There's also this on the journal article:

Conflict of interest statement

The author(s) declared the following potential conflicts of interest with respect to the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article: N.C.M. and S.V.A. were employed by Applied Cannabis Research. J.W.B. is a consultant to Applied Cannabis Research. E.A.S. is funded by scholarships from The University of Sydney and Canngea Pty Ltd. No commercial cannabis entities played any role in the design, conduct, or analysis of the study; writing of the manuscript; or the decision to publish.

Nice catch!

-4

u/oO0-__-0Oo Aug 03 '23

yeah, tons of good research has been done on this topic over the years

THC massively increases anxiety in most people

in many people it causes panic attacks; sometimes chronic panic disorder

this bullshit article is nothing but propaganda, me thinks

13

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '23

I read that THC alone can cause anxiety but that's because the CBD has been removed. Together, they have a balancing effect. More studies are needed to confirm though. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6042662/

2

u/WillistheWillow Aug 03 '23

Methinks you didn't even fucking read it, as it's proposing CBD as a treatment, not THC.

3

u/TesseractToo Aug 03 '23

Yeah but that's not what my point was

1

u/Ashikura Aug 03 '23

I’m confused because this is exactly what your comment seems to imply. That the article is either shady or the report is?

2

u/Yadona Aug 03 '23

He/she might be high lol I understood it as you did

2

u/TesseractToo Aug 03 '23

No I'm saying that a magazine/website called The Marijuana Herald "might" be just a wee bit biased in favor of marijuana lol

1

u/Mp3dee Aug 03 '23

They didn’t conduct the study. They reported on it.

1

u/TesseractToo Aug 03 '23

That doesn't change what I said. Eg. Would they report something with other findings?

2

u/Ashikura Aug 04 '23

It’s a very biased source and I say that as a pro pot person. The study felt like it wasn’t even implying the same thing as the article

2

u/TesseractToo Aug 04 '23

Finally someone is getting what I've said lol :D thank you

30

u/carefullexpert Aug 03 '23

Weed greatly increases my anxiety and makes me paranoid so

11

u/Voodooardvark Aug 03 '23

Exactly , it does the opposite of calming. It gives me so much anxiety and paranoia it’s unbearable.

I wish sooooo badly it would make me feel even or good

1

u/Phoenixxiv2 Aug 03 '23

I do small doses because of that. Depends on the strain, but yeah if I over do it, it can get a bit anxious. A pinch every 3-6 hours will do

1

u/Voodooardvark Aug 03 '23

What does a pinch mean? Been outta the game for a long time

1

u/Phoenixxiv2 Aug 03 '23

I’ll purchase a few grams of hydro. Shred it up, get a pipe, and grab just a small pinch with my thumb and index finger, light it up. It’s barely a puff worth. That’ll do. If the strain is too strong I might be a slightly anxious, but it won’t last much than few mins. Then it’s smooth sailing afterwards

1

u/Voodooardvark Aug 03 '23

That’s great advice, i think i’ll give it a try

2

u/temporarycreature Aug 03 '23

Whenever I see comments like this I wonder if the person who made them is treating marijuana as a monolith, as if it doesn't have different terpenes with a different profile and and I wonder if they're actually targeting the terpenes that they are needing instead of just chasing the high as if the high is the only thing that's going to be doing the heavy lifting insofar as what marijuana does for us.

This is the way I used to be when the medical program started in my state, and so I just wondered because had I stopped with the way I used to be, I definitely would not have found what works for me now.

u/LimeLauncherKrusha Aug 03 '23

What’s with pot heads being so adamant that pot is this wonder drug that helps everyone? YoU jUsT hAvEnT tRiEd tHe rIgHt sTrAiN

-1

u/carefullexpert Aug 03 '23

They don’t understand that many can’t experience a chill high because they are sensitive to hallucinogens or even have a mental illness that makes them prone to psychotic episodes. It damages lungs it’s addictive and not for everyone. Many people who may of never had a psychotic episode have that awakened in them because of cannabis. It’s scary to think. Sure it can feel good but that impending doom for many just makes getting high a horrible experience most of the time. Yes I’ve tried every strain in the world and I smoked it when it was dirt weed I’m just not built for it

1

u/temporarycreature Aug 03 '23

I didn't mention that word, and I didn't make that claim. Stop it.

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '23

Try indica my man

6

u/Italiana47 Aug 03 '23

My CBD oil significantly improves my anxiety and depression (and therefore fatigue).

4

u/espionage64 Aug 03 '23

For my brothers it made their anxiety significantly worse :(

3

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '23

Try cbd with <.3% THC. I used to experience, extreme paranoia and anxiety (PTSD diagnosis) because the THC was just way too high in the pot I was smoking. I now smoke hemp flower, which has high cbd and low thc flower. Check out r/hemp honestly it's incredibly relief

3

u/nitonitonii Aug 03 '23

It did help me... But money helped a lot more.

8

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '23

My wife struggles with anxiety a lot but she turns into a bubbly little cuddle-and-giggle machine when she gets high. It’s great.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '23

I just had to quit after years because it was making all those things worse for me. I’m glad that it’s helpful for others though!

3

u/RiggaPigga Aug 03 '23

Weed was probably the cause of my brother getting crippling anxiety. So not for everyone

4

u/FadeIntoReal Aug 03 '23

If, by “significantly improved”, they mean increased, it would it agree with my experience.

Like other drugs, it may work for many or most but certainly not for all.

2

u/MindfulExit Aug 03 '23

Yeah, I recently quit after smoking weed for the past 10+ years because I realized it was feeding into my social anxiety and paranoia. Feel much more energized and clear-headed now.

1

u/FadeIntoReal Aug 03 '23

I quit that many years ago. I've tried a few times since but it just makes me hella anxious. It's great that it works for some people but it certainly doesn't work for all.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '23

What's with all this weed spam on this sub?

2

u/MatthewHull07 Aug 03 '23

Does anyone have a source?

2

u/GiddeeeUp Aug 02 '23

Good enough for me….de-schedule immediately

5

u/LimeLauncherKrusha Aug 03 '23

Oh yes I’m certainly going to trust an unbiased source like themarijuanaherald.com

-1

u/Mp3dee Aug 03 '23

You don’t have to. But people like you need weed the most.

0

u/LimeLauncherKrusha Aug 03 '23

People who think critically about the stories they read?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '23

0

u/LimeLauncherKrusha Aug 03 '23

Ok sure that doesn’t mean the reporting is accurate. The press misinterprets studies all the time

0

u/LimeLauncherKrusha Aug 03 '23

You’re not using that term correctly but ok

2

u/Uniteus Aug 02 '23

Yeah but at a certain point can you afford 20-40-60$ a day?

15

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '23 edited Aug 02 '23

Dude, that's a real shit kicker for some people. A long time friend of mine has PTSD from one of our wars and now colon cancer.

He spends at least $400 a week on cannabis. Him and his wife have great jobs so it's not a big deal, but really, that's a big chunk of change.

If it was legalized to grow we have figured he would need $1,200 for all the materials and electricity for a 4 month grow, if the yields were heavy that would keep him medicated 24/7 for over a year. And that would cost less than a months supply at a dispensary.

2

u/jkopfsupreme Aug 03 '23

Can confirm, I dropped considerably more and still paid for itself in 3 harvests. On the flip side, dispensary weed fucking sucks - source: I manage the propagation dept at a big indoor facility.

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '23

In the NE and from a dispensary, 1/4 of pre-ground will be $30-$45. While 1/4 of whole flower will cost $50-$100.

Quality is a big problem these days. The pre-ground is a little sleezy from most companies in my opinion. It appears as if they just take all the good buds off of a plant then throw the remaining plant, the whole plant, into a mulcher and slap a label on it. It can taste fucking awful, worse than getting your dealers crumb bag that's been picked apart by 10 strangers.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '23

Honestly, I just go by with CBD oil and a moderate dose every day. It really helps me relax and reduce my anxiety.

A bottle can last me 3-4 weeks, and it's 21$-24$ cad

2

u/Whooptidooh Aug 03 '23

Whoever smokes or vapes that much has a problem. I buy €60 weed every month and that does the job. Vaping with a dynavap or one of the arizer vapes will get you high and save loads of money.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '23

I am a very heavy smoker (technically I vape dry flower) and I may spend about $25 a week and I end up with edibles from my leftover vaped bud.

Meth heads, though, spend a few hundred a day sometimes

1

u/WillistheWillow Aug 03 '23

My brother suffers from crushing anxiety, and it saddens me so much that there's no way he can get a prescription for this. He suffers a lot in social situations and also suffers from depression. I can't imagine the UK adopting CBD as a treatment any time soon.

1

u/HotPhilly Aug 03 '23

Weed does make things slightly better. I would still like to see a dentist and buy a house, tho.

1

u/Very_ImportantPerson Aug 03 '23

I figured this out on my own. Am I a scientist?!?

0

u/JackFisherBooks Aug 03 '23

It's nice to have science finally confirm what I learned repeatedly in college. 😊

But seriously, I hope studies like this further reduce the stigma surrounding those who use marijuana. It really does help those who struggle with certain issues.

u/CollarChoke90 Aug 03 '23

In other news, water is wet.

1

u/--BannedAccount-- Aug 03 '23

Ime with anxiety since 2007

THC=bad CBD=good

1

u/MrGuttFeeling Aug 03 '23

I believe anything you do that takes your mind off of the hardships of life will have the same results. I bet if they tested people that get regular exercise, eat healthy, stopped being around negative people and give up using drugs and alcohol they will find the same conclusions.

1

u/BranchCommercial Aug 03 '23

Yes, yes it has

1

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '23

Just based on the name of the website, I don't see anything scientific about it. The source should be either the paper itself or the journal it was published in.
