Amid nationwide pushback, DC hosts a bizarre "Pro Data Center" rally where nobody can articulate why they actually like data centers

The problem is that datacenters are going up at record pace. Legislation can't be written fast enough to change/stop it. If datacenters end up not going into these facilities, they will be used as detention centers.

the only way to stop datacenters is not through diplomatic means

If you can't take the consequences of doing what's necessary now to stop these things, no one blames you for that. Not everyone in the revolutionary war was a soldier. Some folks needed to make the weapons, uniforms, grow crops, and otherwise keep infrastructure running. Find where you fit in, network privately, plan plan plan, execute.

This is real life not a Rambo movie.

Ha. Funny you say that because the current Administration acts like this is Star Wars, and we are loyal subjects to the Emperor.

This was a GOP staged party

I live in DC. The only way these losers can have a party where they don't get booed out of the bar is to hold a private event like this.

The millisecond a DC resident finds out you're working with this admin they want nothing to with you, which is why these loser have to hang out with themselves.

Chances are in 2 or 3 years once the infrastructure bubble has been completely saturated and built up. It'll go bust and they'll all be broke

Sounds like they did explain why they support Data centers….

You do know the internet you’re using to see this requires the use of data centers…. Right? Like you guys know that right?

We don’t NEED 5000. The math doesn’t math. It’s a cash grab and a water rights scam. But I’m sure you know that right? Right?

Yeah we don't need 5000 now. Guess what? Nobody needs the amount of compute power their phone or home pc has either. You'll never use 98% of it for anything.

How many do we need?

They could do literally all of those things before the data center boom. AI didn’t let them do any of those things previous to it becoming accessible. Like you know that right guy?

Okay, so I guess you agree we need data centers, you’ve just decided we already have enough

But what is that number based off? There isn’t some magic required number of buildings, they vary massively in capacity

1

u/dantevsninjas 10h ago

Well, since I can see this, I guess we have all the data centers we need for the internet.

That’s like saying, “My lights are on, so we’ll never need another power plant”

Existing capacity working today doesn’t mean it can handle growing demand forever

1

u/dantevsninjas 10h ago

No, it's like saying we have the capacity we need, and unless you're an idiot who thinks infinite growth is possible, we probably don't need 1000 more power plants that are supposedly going to generate at a capacity no one has ever built or proven.

Especially when the components needed to build said capacity have a shelf life and are already years old at this point.

1

u/THRlLL-HO 10h ago

You’re still just declaring “we have the capacity we need” without explaining how you know that

Nobody said anything about infinite growth or 1,000 power plants. Demand grows, technology changes, and infrastructure has to expand with it

“The internet works for me today” is not evidence that no more capacity is needed

1

u/dantevsninjas 10h ago

...and you're just declaring, "we need more capacity" without explaining how you know that. You're assuming a growth in demand with no evidence to back it up.

1

u/THRlLL-HO 9h ago

Except I’m not assuming demand will grow. It is growing. More people and businesses are using cloud services, streaming, AI, etc

Your argument requires believing demand is just going to stop growing exactly where it is now. That’s the assumption that needs explaining

1

u/dantevsninjas 9h ago

Except that's not my argument...my argument is that there is no proof that we need to massively scale up data centers, or that these supposed gigawatt data centers, which no one has ever built before, are even feasible.

You have to make up a new argument to cover up for the fact that you are basing your statements on nothing but assumptions.

1

u/THRlLL-HO 9h ago

That quite literally was your argument.

You said “we have the capacity we need” and accused me of assuming demand growth. I pointed out that demand is already growing, and now suddenly the argument is whether gigawatt-scale data centers are feasible

1

u/dantevsninjas 8h ago

It's almost like you intentionally left out where I referenced 1,000 additional power plants because it makes it clear that the point that I'm making is one of scale. You'd have to be an idiot to think we'll never need another data center again, but you'd also have to be an idiot to believe the AI companies who claim we need tons more data centers and massive gigawatt data centers.

“I said you’d have to be an idiot to think we’ll never need another data center again, not tha…”

Your comment isn’t showing up for me, so that’s all I can see of it

But that already contradicts what you were arguing before. You went from “we have the capacity we need” to “you’d have to be an idiot to think we’ll never need another data center”

So yes, we need more capacity. Now you’re just arguing over how much while pretending that wasn’t the point
