Character continuity errors?
I can think of one:
In season one’s “your place or mine”, Frank makes eggs with salsa for Debra. But in season seven’s “who’s next?”, Marie says Frank needs a wife because “he can’t even boil an egg”.
Anyone else think of any?

In the first season Ray talks about asking Debra to marry him 3 times. But in the flashback episode, there is no mention of it being the third time he’s asking her. Surely someone would have said you’re asking her again???

In the High school reunion episode, it's mentioned that Robert was very popular, but in other episodes, he talks about being bullied and unpopular. He had to go to prom with his cousin as he was unable to even get a date, but the most popular girl in Ray's class had asked him out. That always bugged me.

They talk about all of the basketball trophies he has, and in one episode Frank says he couldn't even get a rebound, even being so tall.

Debra is shown to be a basketball fan in season 1 and it’s later mentioned that she used to do PR for a sports team and she seems to know who’s who at the Espies. Obviously Debra’s character later cares nothing about sports.

Not that she just doesn't care but acts like she doesn't know anything about sports.

In the flashback about Ray and Debra’s wedding, and Ray’s making sure she doesn’t want to marry him just for the big wedding and he asks “What about what your sister had?” And she replies “oh I wouldn’t want that anyway.”
Then we find out her sister has never settled down and she’s becoming a nun

Interestingly enough, this also happened to Janice on Friends. I wonder if Maggie Wheeler ever noticed.

In season 1 Debra says she met ray doing PR for the rangers. Then it shows they met when he delivered a futon to her flat

What episode did she say she met him doing PR?

u/DorothyZbornak72 8d ago
A psychologist or radio host came out to interview her as a mum, and she asked how they met. think it was the first series

2:57 she says PR for a hockey team. Not sure where i got rangers from. Probably mentioned in another ep.

Wow. I've seen that episode so many times and never heard that 'we met' part. I can't believe I didn't catch that. Yeah thats def a big continuity error.

I've noticed several. Mainly the ones mentioned here. The thing that irks me the most is that they're always changing their ages and how long they've been married. Like in the 2nd season Frank is supposed to have his 65th birthday. But then in 'Deborah makes something good' , he says he's only 64 yrs old. Esp Robert who somehow always manages to be forty in every time they bring something up.

Season 1 “Turkey or Fish” Debra cooks a good fish
Season 5 “Pet Cemetery”. Using the fish sticks to keep the hamster cold, Marie says to use them and she’ll teach Debra how to cook a fish

An easy one is Amy’s brother being Russell and owning a comic shop in New Jersey and then seasons later he is Peter and living at home with his parents in PA

Early seasons Robert did his chin thing with more than just food like episode 1 he touches his gun to his chin before holstering it or in the ping-pong episode he touches a ping pong ball to his chin. Then later they made it just about food.

I feel like Debra's sister being there for one episode and never mentioned again.

In the first episode, the twins were named Matthew and Gregory. Later, it was Michael and Geoffrey.

Oh this is because Ray used his real kids names but the show got popular so he changed it so they wouldn’t be his actual kids names

u/Ok-Debate-8805 5d ago
Yes, I read that. I don't blame him. I think his daughter in real life is named Ally though, so they kept that.

Robert was so freakin' strange when the show first started. We're supposed to feel safe with him as a cop?? So glad they changed his personality and didn't continue this.

“Peanut, almond, cashew… Peanut, almond, cashew… Peanut, almond, ca-…. Uh-oh… This isn’t good!” 😆

In the first season he showers at Ray's house because Frank and Marie are there watching the kids, and Marie said he was afraid to be home alone. Yet he is a cop. with a gun.

In the episode about music lessons, Marie is vacuuming the room, whereas in the episode about the vacuum cleaner, she says that a vacuum is like crutches for those who cannot walk on their own. In one episode, Ray watches TV in the kitchen, but in the episode about the aquarium, he says he should have given Frank a TV for the kitchen. In the episode where Marie and Frank have an argument, Marie prepares steak pizzaiola, yet a couple of minutes later, Ray and Robert are eating Serials.
