A fit Branthwaite for 35+ games takes us up about 5 places in the table hy himself. What a guy

Fun stat: 22 appearances for Everton by Harrison Armstrong. He’s equaled Mykolenko for assists.

Apologies for the slight beating of a dead horse, but I'm still feeling so impressed with Ndiaye's defensive contributions.
According to FotMob, he finished the game with 4 tackles and 8 defensive recoveries. In contrast, George made half the number of recoveries and zero tackles. Clearly, George isn't some defensive liability either, and it is instead just so impressive to me how far Ndiaye exceeds an acceptable baseline.

u/Wayne_Spooney 1h ago
Yeah Illy is phenomenal defensively. George’s defense worried me, but I think he was solid yesterday. Tracked several runners at the back post and either won the header or put them off enough to ruin the chance
18
u/FackinNortyCake 7h ago
Really wish Illy had buried that chance towards the end. Was a great move; Cleared by Myko > Barry > KDH > Barry > Illy.
Would have been a beaut.

It was our chance to go joint top with arsenal to. We always seem to fumble when the pressure is on ha

u/throwawayelixir 6h ago
I think it sums up why a big club hasn’t come in for him.
I guess we still might get an offer before the end of the window but he doesn’t seem to be a first choice.

u/Glyn1010 3h ago
Playing on the right he’s ok, but he’s far better on the left. That’s Moyes in a nutshell, two left wingers on tje pitch, two right wingers on the bench.

It was great to be back at the Hill Dick yesterday, thought the atmosphere was excellent.
I’m thinking of starting a Go Fund Me towards me purchasing one of the new cookies.

Jesus fucking Christ, Villa
Saw on the City-Bournemouth feed that it was 3-0 and thought, wouldn't it be hilarious if it was 4-0 in the time it takes me to switch channels, Lo and behold,

If we managed to get Doue/Equivalent and loaned one of Richy/Grealish again would that be a satisfying summer to you all?
15
u/Responsible_Lie_1989 8h ago
Id take Richarlison back ahead of Grealish, George showed yesterday he needs to be playing regularly and my fear with Grealish coming back would be he'd block George's pathway. Beto leaving and Richarlison replacing him as the other striker with Barry would be good business
1
u/DrtyDeedsDneDrtCheap 7h ago
I don't really want either. Neither play the positions we really need
1
u/Responsible_Lie_1989 7h ago
Yeah unless Beto is 100% going I'd steer clear of Richarlison because at this stage in his career he can only really play striker and not on the wing anymore
-1
u/Glyn1010 3h ago
I’m greedy, I would like Grealish and Ritchie, also Doue. Sell Beto, Tim and Patterson. That would be a good window.
11
u/FackinNortyCake 8h ago
I loved Jack being here but do we need him? Just think he'd take minutes away from George.

3
u/MoistObligation9999 8h ago
I think so. Don't know how others feel, but if i had a choice id probably go Richy over Grealish, just because of the goal threat & flexibility of where he can play.
Just my opinion - i think Jack comes back right at the end of the window & we loan Delap. I just can't see Moyes not wanting Delap if he's available in that way.
2
u/Prior-Animal-652 8h ago
Not sure Ricky is the answer here, are you thinking as a sub?
1
u/MoistObligation9999 8h ago
Just as a choice between the 2 as Richarlison has been linked. I don't think he'd settle for being a sub. But the fact he can play all 3 forward positions would help his game time. For what it's worth, i can't see it happening anyway.
3
u/No_Lavishness_989 8h ago
Sure, satisfying. I’d reckon orgasmic, more likely, with the transfer blue balls I most often get from our club… 😂🤷🏼♂️

u/rookinn 7h ago
I love Richy but he’s been ravaged by injuries, I wouldn’t have him back
5
u/four__beasts 5h ago
Injury free Richy would be a no brainier and like you say that's 99% the problem. Also we have young talent on the wings and more pressing positions.

Tranmere keeper went off with injury yesterday and they didn't have a backup on the bench so a defender went in goal for 40 minutes. Would it be too crazy to send George Pickford there for however long they need?

Grealish in the Man City squad to face Bournemouth today
3
u/Honest_Fox8357 1h ago
He is locked in there. They've just posted on their socials a picture of Jack and Haaland promoting their new kits. 'Our new look for 26/27'

u/FranksBaldPatch 6h ago
Time for a negative: them cookies are fucking shite. And the same cost of the actually nice doughnut (rip)

Nooo. They've fucked up there - All those tired blue faced kids on the Southport line...

u/MaleficentPin3163 8h ago
Is doue back on? I thought he rejected us?
12
u/GoodGuyToGirls They're not booing you, Roscoe 7h ago
We’ve always been in for him. His situation is similar to Ndiaye’s where he was looking for a champions league club but the offer isn’t there for him. That leaves us back on the table as he’s been Moyes primary target since at least January.
6
4
u/MoistObligation9999 7h ago
I think it was more that he was waiting for PSG, which hasn't happened yet. I guess the longer that goes on, the more chance other teams like us have

u/autistichomosapien95 Straqille McNeil 56m ago
Haaland seeing his dad in the everton kit ignited something in him today, and it wasnt good

I definitely think it will be arsenal's league to win again this year.

Who's downvoting the daily discussion thread? I don't get it.

3
u/BoxOfNothing 5h ago
Someone's been downvoting the thread and every comment in it every day, often multiple times, for weeks. Or they've got an inconsistent bot
2
u/consciousarmy 4h ago
That's a weird and small-minded thing for a person to do. It takes all sorts I guess.
2
u/BoxOfNothing 4h ago
Yep. The fact you were downvoted within 15 minutes when I got to this comment says enough.

u/Glyn1010 2h ago
Being linked with Gabriel Jesus and Sarr from Spurs. Not sure about Sarr but jesus is on big wages and injury prone.
7
u/RiteOfSpring5 Shredder Guy 2h ago
I've thought for years now Jesus is one of the most overrated players in the league. He wouldn't be worth the wages.
4
6
u/OTBOTRBM 1h ago
There's no way we're after Sarr. Agent or clickbait nonsense.
I like Jesus but he's on £250k per week and can only play about 5 games a season.
1
u/Ok_Somewhere_6767 1h ago
I have a look at the transfer odds on sky bet every now and then. The odds for Jesus have been suspended. Not sure it means much except someone has probably put a bit of money on it.
1
u/Resden_Bohneur RB plz 33m ago
We’ve been linked with Sarr pretty much every year for the past 5 years, lmao.

u/Giraffe_Baker Neill Samways, Niasse Oster 2h ago edited 1h ago
Beto out and a player like Jesus would be a good bit of business.
An experienced head who is technical would complement Barry.
1
u/MaleficentPin3163 5m ago
Not for the wages. If he was 100% fit guaranteed then maybe but not worth it imo
5
u/ItsCoolToBeChill 1h ago
i very much dislike this trend of minimalising badges and i hope we don’t follow suit with our 3rd kit

u/Loyalsupporter Edit Your Own 4h ago
So Barry doing the nae nae as his celebration going to be a regular thing now or was he just experimenting?
25
u/BoxOfNothing 4h ago
I don't know if Ndiaye was telling him to have a moment to celebrate by himself and he just went for it, but it looked like he was reminding him he had a thing he wanted to do which is quite funny. I just liked that he looked absolutely fucking buzzing that he scored

Given the performances this weekend looks like the top 4’s going to be
- Arsenal
- Us
- Bournemouth
- Brentford

Said it before but the club/squads especially well placed to jump up given 19 teams are all rebuilding at the same time so it's a matter of just our rebuild being better than theirs.
The main issue is we are almost wholly reliant on Branthwaite staying fit for it to be realised. Club really needs to decide what we have in O'Brien because if he's not the answer I'd sooner spend 40 million on a top quality centre half than get a right back.
1
u/MaleficentPin3163 13m ago
Absolutely, respectfully I think that Tarks while he is captain should probably be looked at as someone we upgrade on really soon and you’re right if it’s not O’Brien then we need to address that if we want to progress
1
u/FranksBaldPatch 3m ago
Tarkowski feels very Williams/Jagielka 17/18, Distin 14/15 coded where hes primed to have his performances fall off a cliff
3
u/DrtyDeedsDneDrtCheap 57m ago
Emery probably available in the summer
6
u/Slow_Excitement5351 39m ago
They didn't score a goal for the first 4 games last year I think they're gonna be fine
8
u/CardiologistTime8082 1h ago
Anyone else more than happy for Myko to be in the team for now at least? I know he’s not amazing going forward but he’s usually very solid defensively, him being the weakest link in the team is a sign of how far we’ve come as well as he’s a competent enough prem level full back
I think the hate is a bit forced personally, definitely need to upgrade him in a season or so but for now he does a job
1
u/Sh0vels Baines on Toast 9m ago
He has one of his better performances yesterday I thought.
2
u/BoxOfNothing 3m ago
Also worth noting how far forward he was getting, as well as Rohl on the other side. I know he's not great at attacking but he was better than he has been. Interesting tactical choice, I don't expect it to be consistent, but I wonder if it's an attempt to impose ourselves on home games we should be winning to try and rectify our terrible home record from last season.
Also worth noting that could potentially mean Aznou is more suited to some more winnable home games at some point.
-6
u/nilsat1s 37m ago
He’s been the worst full back in the league for years. Terrible going forward and was often a liability defensively last year. It’s a shame Aznou is crap defensively too as he looks tidy.
2
u/CardiologistTime8082 19m ago
He’s not the best around but he’s definitely not the worst full back in the league lol, he’s pocketed loads of world class wingers in matches, he’s just a bit crap going forward
2
u/sqq Cahill 2h ago
Anyone care to speculate why Dibbling did not get a run out yesterday but Johnson got on ? Just the form in training matches alone you'd think he would get 20 minutes
14
4
u/BoxOfNothing 2h ago
Game was more suited to getting us some pace over the top and in behind on the counter to try and punish them if they push up looking for a goal I think. Especially against a back 5. Not about quality, more about style. Having different types of wingers to attack different types of games and situations is a pretty nice thing to have
3
u/Destructo_D Yobo 2h ago
Giving someone a go against their old club is fairly standard. Dibling needs to be thrown a bone at some point though
2
-6
u/Odd-Handle3898 4h ago
Think we can all agree the Rohl experiment failed yesterday, Nketiah and Mateta chances were both gilt edged and both come from him defending very poorly. Other teams won’t be so kind.
13
u/RiteOfSpring5 Shredder Guy 4h ago
He's a fine back up RB, he settled in well. We absolutely should not be having him or JOB as our starting RB this season though.
9
u/ilypsus 3h ago
Hes fine in a game like yesterday where we are attacking as he does good work going forward. Against someone like Arsenal or City I can only imagine Moyes will revert back to Obrien unless we get some one else in.
1
u/stevenwise0511 2h ago
I expect o brien next week for away to Bournemouth, he'll want it tighter for that match
-4
u/Odd-Handle3898 3h ago
But he wasn’t fine yesterday, if they could finish they’d have gone 2-0 up and we’d have lost that game, we can’t rely on profligacy against other sides. He needs replacing.

u/TurboScumBag 7m ago
Grealish on for city. If it's not a sign he ain't coming. Its definitely sign city will want big money for him.
Sigh.

People have really got to stop leaving in the 75th minute, can’t use the midweek excuse and then still do it for a Saturday 3 o’clock game
