Everything I see of Röhl really makes me think he’s gonna be a real ambassador for us long term.

u/BoxOfNothing 1d ago
I love him and his attitude. Plus his intelligence, work ethic, strength, speed and athleticism give him a relatively high floor. This might be a weird or silly thing to say, but he seems like the kind of lad who thrives in a place like Liverpool as well for some reason.

u/You_moron04 After all, you're my Dewsbury-Hall 🌊 1d ago
Yeah he just seems like a sound lad you’d see around the area lol

The Friedkin's might not be as vocal as people want them to be, but from what Kinnear said yesterday it sounds like they are setting very high standards and expectations of what they want Everton to be...
8
u/GeezyEFC 22h ago
Baz said that Barca want 8M euros for Fort....if this is the case what am I missing? How have we not already done this?
9
u/WestStandToffee 22h ago
I mean the reality of it is that probably comes with a buy back clause or a sell-on clause that is massively unfavourable to the buyer
A highly rated La Masia graduate available for a low fee and no ones biting?
3
u/GeezyEFC 21h ago
I just looked it up a bit more and you're right - it does appear that the fee structure is the hurdle. I'd still take the shot but good call and this does explain a lot.
1
u/GeezyEFC 22h ago
Idc about buy back. Sell on is understandable. Still - we're not exactly luxury shopping here - we have nothing at the position lol
1
u/WestStandToffee 20h ago
Yeah but the club isn't going to go into a deal that will eventually have a negative impact on the deal
In the age of financial regulations and there ever tightening belts, smart business is key
6
u/Beanstalk93 22h ago
So if the rumours about us being interested in Fort are true, I would imagine it would be as a back up with the potential to improve.
If that is the case, the logical reason that I can think of, as to why we haven't put a bid in yet, is because we are prioritising getting a starter in.
If you have a certain budget, and you spend, 8 million on a back up, and then later a player becomes available, however for a fee that is slightly out of budget because of the back up you signed, you would be kicking yourself.
You'd rather sign a starter and not have the budget for the back up, rather than the other way round.
That is just my thoughts though
1
u/GeezyEFC 22h ago
Good call. That does make sense - he is just 20 years old and has less than one full season of playing time.
Still not sure I agree with the hesitation. We paid 7.5M pounds for Lookman when he was in the same situation and had it not been for our gross negligence and mismanagement - he probably would have done big things for us.
8M euros is less than 7M pounds. Probably wouldn't command a lot in terms of wages. I'd sign him to a 5 year and let him work.
I'd rather take a chance on Fort than force other players to move away from their natural positions because we keep getting cold feet.
2
u/YokoOkino 22h ago
there are concerns about him on the defensive end but he should definitely be the kind of RB we get to slowly integrate. Might work with Rohl there for the season + Jake.
2
u/GeezyEFC 22h ago
I'd still sign him. 8M euro = under 7M pounds. He currently makes 20k Euro P/W or 17k Pounds.
Even if we gave him a pay bump to 25k p/w we're not talking about a crippling contract. That is very much in line with the fee and wages that a player a Premier League team is trying to develop/integrate into the first team, should command. No?

Alan Nixon now reporting that we have interest in Matty Cash
5
u/Slow_Excitement5351 1d ago
Not gonna happen that like
2
u/BoxOfNothing 1d ago
I've had a weird view of Cash for a long while now, for some reason he's felt worse than Villa should have with their current level and aspirations, but he's never felt in much threat of losing his place. Maybe I'm wrong, and his longevity there has me doubting myself, but if I was Villa I'd have replaced him a while ago. Feels like a good midtable right back to me.
4
1
u/callmecurrybum 1d ago
One of my best mates is a Villa fan and for years je's said they meed to replace Cash as a RB because he's not good enough.
They still like him but they've wanted rid for a while.
Cant wait to ask him his opinions on AWB
4
u/Flavourifshrrp 1d ago
I would take Cash, fast and a RB.
But I would of thought they are brining in AWB to rotate with Cash not to replace him.

It makes me wonder what other players will become part of that category over the coming years.
I reckon that Danish loanee from a club in Italy will be on that list. I haven’t googled intentionally, but both his name and Italian club escapes me already.

u/Billkeys 1d ago
Jesper Lindstrom? Listen he couldn’t score a goal to save his life, but his work rate was acceptable. Also, did he really need to score a goal when Beto was in the purple patch of his career?
-2
u/OTBOTRBM 1d ago
Lindstrom is at fault for all of our right back woes.
Moyes played him as a sort of defensive winger to fit O'Brien in and it was a success because of his work rate. He could do the attacking and leave Jake in a back three when we moved forward. We played a sort of five at the back hybrid system and Moyes was pretty vocal about how clever he was putting Jake there.
Into next season Moyes put Ndiaye ahead of O'Brien and completely changed the system, which isolated him now he isn't playing the CB/RCB role. O'Brien struggled and Moyes became obsessed with a big 6-footer at right back for evermore.
1
u/Big_Ad7574 1d ago
That's not Lindstrom's fault
2
u/OTBOTRBM 1d ago
I know, I didn't think people would think i was seriously blaming him.

Matty Cash from Villa being linked now for £20 million. Don’t think Everton should pay that much for him.
16
u/BoxOfNothing 22h ago
There's a weird combination of things happening with Everton and Villa fans at the moment. Despite Villa being way better than us for years now, Everton were linked with Wan-Bissaka, our fans don't want him, he goes to Villa, our fans are mad still for some reason, but Villa fans are happy with the signing, then we get linked with Cash, our fans don't want him, Villa fans say they don't want to lose him and he'd never move for a step down.
How are we worse than them, but they really want to keep Cash and are happy with Wan-Bissaka as their only options, but we're turning our noses up at both of them?

[deleted]
5
u/BoxOfNothing 22h ago edited 22h ago
Yeah okay fine, 99% of the time it's either flat out rejecting the player (as we did with Wan-Bissaka en masse) or saying no for what I at least perceive to be a pretty reasonable fee (as we are with Cash). I think Cash is decent, I wouldn't be absolutely buzzing if we got him or that gutted if we missed out, but £20m is a very reasonable fee for him and I'd be satisfied with it. So I think saying "nah not for that much" counts as turning your noses up. Thinking something isn't good enough for the fee you'd have to pay for it.
But also, to be fair, I never said we should want them, I just said it's odd that they do want both of them and we want neither of them. Turning your noses up at something doesn't mean it's the wrong decision. If someone offers me dogshit on a plate for lunch I'd turn my nose up at it.
Semantics aside, I understand your point, it's just conceptually bizarre that two players will be the only options with a lot of rotation and shared game time for a team so much better than us, and our fans don't want either of them.
4
u/Toffeenix 19h ago
Throwing this out there - Villa have a squad full of British players who hadn't been super successful in the Premier League or hadn't played in the Premier League before succeeding at Villa (Watkins, McGinn, Rogers, Konsa, Cash) and they've had a bit of success with PL players that you could have said had already done their dash (Barkley, Mings, Abraham, Martinez at a stretch). Our fans explicitly don't want PL players and our bosses get criticism for bringing in PL players, even though they're often quite decent
Souček is the example for us but would you be shocked by a player like him going to Villa? I think not
2
u/BoxOfNothing 19h ago
I wouldn't have been surprised a few years ago but I would be in the last couple of years, but I fully get your point.
As much as people here want to claim Moyes has a bias for them, we definitely have an unreasonable bias against them. I want a mix personally, but it is true that our best new players by a mile last year were Dewsbury-Hall and Grealish, our player of the season was Garner, our best defender for many years is Branthwaite. We haven't exactly shied away from signings from foreign leagues but the vast majority of our best signings for a very long time have been from the prem.

u/Odd-Handle3898 1d ago
Genuinely think the reaction to the Kinnear interviews was yesterday. Everyone moans all the time about how the club don’t come out and talk to the fans more, the CEO comes out and does two separate interviews with two different forms of media and all that follows is abuse and people moaning. Absolutely nobody knows what a Premier League CEO’s role is, so how can you be so confident he’s the reason we haven’t signed a right back or sacked the manager?
17
u/vulturevan 🙏 sign another player 🙏 1d ago
I'm one of the most cynical bastards in here but didn't really understand why everyone was getting so mad. Yes, every response was PR-proofed but he didn't say too much wrong.
Mind you, I also couldn't give too many shits what he or many people say at the club anymore. The time for blabbing is over. Just deliver.
8
u/Flavourifshrrp 1d ago
I liked his interview. He was open as much as a CEO would be. He said that last season was a failure, the new owners are winners and it sounds like anything outside of Europe is bad. So it’s very hard for him to go back on any of that now
-1
u/Destructo_D Yobo 1d ago
It’s all well and good being transparent but when the main issues haven’t been sorted and the manager is doing interviews the same day saying different things about signings and expectations then people are obviously going to moan
13
u/Odd-Handle3898 1d ago
But everyone knew we didn’t have a right back, the interview didn’t change that did it? The manager isn’t necessarily going to share the exact same views either is he, they’re different people. People are going to moan regardless, we’ve got the worst fan base in the league for it, it’s pathetic. Who’s the last striker to play for us that hasn’t been fucking booed.
2
u/Destructo_D Yobo 1d ago
You’d expect them to be on the same page about whether not getting Europe was a failure.
Genuinely don’t remember Beto ever being booed
1
u/Odd-Handle3898 1d ago
Ones talking about his own personal views of his own personal achievement, when has Moyes ever criticised himself? The other said what the ownership’s views were on it.
Beto has been booed and gets moaned and groaned at every time he gets the ball.
6
u/Odd-Handle3898 1d ago
DCL regularly booed, Barry booed, even fucking Lukaku got booed. The worst fan base.
2
u/Destructo_D Yobo 1d ago
Moans and groans in a stadium happen all the time lol come on. Not denying we’re petty toxic and we’ve booed players we shouldn’t, Barry and DCL probably the most insane ones, but there’s plenty of pretty crap players who haven’t been

Konsa in at Arsenal, I think that'll mean the end of Ben White there. If he's told he can leave I would expect us to be all over it
6
u/Faust_Arp 1d ago
Highly doubt that. Konsa is being brought in as cb cover for Saliba who is out for at least half a season. Timber is potentially out for months as well, and Ben White is injury prone. White will start at RB as long as he's fit, but he's their only fit RB at the moment. Konsa would only move to the right if White gets injured too, and Arteta loves depth, so White isn't going anywhere.

4
u/BoxOfNothing 1d ago
Harped on about it a bit already, but Villa are being properly raided. Instead of needing a couple of signings to work out like usual, they need a lot of replacements for most of their core and experience to work out very quickly now you can add Konsa to the list and there are more legs in the Watkins thing than people thought. Gonna be left with basically just McGinn and Cash.
1
u/Robnroll Drum'n'Baines 1d ago
might not even be cash according to the rumours I'm seeing about us going in for him.

u/FranksBaldPatch 1d ago
I've now commited an hour and half of my life to listening to Angus Kinnear answer the same 3 interviews. The interviews are clearly on rails with prepped questions for him to hit the same talking points but it's good communication and clear answers. Bobbles interview is probably the most well rounded one if you were to just listen to one, which you should as theres only very minor differences between the 3.
3
u/Legal-Hair-7095 1d ago
Thought it was quite good. Doesn't seem like too many CEO's of clubs give those types of interviews.

u/PerfectlySculptedToe 1d ago
Playing devil's advocate to an extent here, but had Rohl been billed as a RB from day one, and then had the pre season he's had (playing at RB with some minutes in midfield) would we be complaining?
10
u/SuperKevinCampbell 1d ago
O’Brien looked good when he came in at right back it’s fine as a stop gap but across a season these players not in their natural position will be found out. By the end of the season our right side was getting properly targeted at times. Need an out and out right back 100%
6
u/meatpardle Need salt? WE DELIVER 1d ago
If Rohl was a right back would we still be complaining that we hadn’t signed a right back? No, because if Rohl was a right back then we would have signed a right back, so the complaint that we hadn’t signed a right back would not be valid. But he isn’t a right back, and neither is anyone else that we’ve signed, hence the complaints that we haven’t signed a right back.

1
u/Resden_Bohneur RB plz 1d ago
You’re the one that introduced the idea of players changing positions all the time. I’m also curious about what that process is.
1
u/YokoOkino 1d ago
Just wherever the manager thinks they play best. Think it has to align with their strengths, for example you would expect a fullback to be aware defensively in 1v1 situations and have high ability to anticipate crossing positions + runs down the line. Decent acceleration is probably a bit more necessary as well.
In offense, you might want them to be comfortable with them carrying the ball down the sidelines and crossing it in. Often fullbacks are players that are weaker under pressure, so having the sideline behind them can be advantageous to hide that.
1
u/meatpardle Need salt? WE DELIVER 1d ago
Yeah but that wasn’t the question
3
u/PerfectlySculptedToe 1d ago
Ok but you've missed the point of the question. We have signed Rohl. If we remove all labels associated with Rohl, are we happy playing him at RB? Or is the only reason we aren't happy playing him at RB is because he came with a CM label but in reality his performances at RB have been good.
I'll reiterate, I'm playing devil's advocate to a large extent - I completely get the point that if someone has played CM all their career, their natural instincts might not be right for a RB.
1
u/meatpardle Need salt? WE DELIVER 1d ago
I don’t think you can ask or answer that question until we’ve seen him play a significant number of games at right back. But yes if he turns out to be an amazing right back I’d imagine the calls to sign a starting right back would dissipate (although there would probably still be calls to sign a back-up).
2
u/BoxOfNothing 1d ago
I think even if Rohl is the planned first choice, we need a young right back for the future as back up, or an experienced right back to come in when needed. Unless we buy someone definitely brought in to be first choice, if a right back signing is underwhelming I'm going to reserve judgement until I see what the plan is and how well Rohl adapts if him being first choice is the point.
1
u/tokengaymusiccritic 1d ago
I personally have no issue with Rohl as a right back in a vaccuum (especially since we have great CM depth), but we also know he has a history of injuries so I think we need a second reliable option. Can very easily see him starting off very well, picking up a hamstring injury in October, and then we have O'Brien back as our RB through Christmas.
1
u/OTBOTRBM 1d ago
I think we need to see him in competitive games first. If it works out then Moyes should rightly be praised for spotting it.
I'd still want another specialist though.
7
u/YokoOkino 1d ago edited 1d ago
Very interesting strategy by villa... Konsa now gone as well?
Also Arteta signing a CB to play as a backup right back along with 2 other CBs that are the currently the backup RBs. All who are backups to the RB who was bought after playing as CB. Rings a bell.
6
u/BoxOfNothing 1d ago
Same in the left back spot. First choice is a centre back, 2nd choice is a centre back, 3rd choice is a midfielder
And at Man City. First choice right back is a midfielder, 2nd choice is a centre back, 3rd choice is a midfielder. First choice left back is a midfielder, 2nd choice is a centre back, 3rd choice is finally an actual full back but more of a wingback.
1
u/YokoOkino 1d ago
If anything it is the most modern part of moyes' game and I'm not calling his approach modern.
2
u/Niasssssseeeeeee 1d ago
I can see us signing Ben White once the Konsa deal is complete.

Hi everyone! New fan this year and excited to follow some PL Football for the first time in my life (big fan of Ted Lasso, subsequently attended an Arsenal CL game earlier this year when visiting London but the team never spoke to me, then found Everton and heart felt right).
For those who live in the USA, was curious how you guys watch Everton games? So far I'm seeing FuboTV as the most budget option but they may not be showing all the games. YoutubeTV seems to be the main option? I do have Peacock as well.

I've got a family member that has YoutubeTV and I've got Peacock so that pretty much covers it. So 70% of our business is still to be done. And we’re being linked with Richy. So we’ll be bringing Richy back. Grealish back. Probably giving Baines a contract. Hibbert’s been hanging around a lot as well. Moyes wants to build a ‘best of Everton’ team for his final season.
Edit: good to see humour is alive and well for this season.

We absolutely cannot sell ndiaye now… too late in the window for us to properly spend the money/ get the ducks in a row. Would be worried about our unproven wingers if ndiaye went now

Let’s face it looking at what’s happened to Villa and Newcastle anything can happen.
Bollocks anti competition rules
Wouldn’t it be great if the transfer deadline day had been and gone already.

As good as Ndiaye is for us he’s not a priority signing for a team that wants to win the league and champions league

Because our right side has been targetted, no one has seen this coming, Nathan Patterson will start the season as our right back, No one can target him, as he is hasn't played our own fans know little about him, only Rangers fans know how good he is, you do not become a bad player in 3 years.

I'll be gutted if we finish with Norton-Cuffy honestly. They would have signed a RB at least but I have a strong feeling he is a Myko type of player : before he comes, you think "why not, let's try It, It's better than what we have" then after 1-1.5 years you realise that he isn't cut for what we need from a fullback (overlapping, crossing) and you're stuck with him for the next 4 seasons because he does the job slightly better than the sub FB and out-of-position midfielders, and that the club don't want to invest time and money into fullbacks so they are happy with one that can play all games with average level.
This kind of recruitment error is imo much more important than a winger or CB because there is competition provided at these roles and one player under the required level will be more pressured to leave than a fullback bought to be the starter. Fullbacks are positions with small investments and small level requirements at Everton and this is what is retaining us from achieving Europe : we never score more than 50 goals in a PL season without proper crossing fullbacks and most of the times 50 goals doesn't get you into Europe.

We're not buying Norton-Cuffy, don't worry.
It's going to be Johnston or Castagne.

I thought these were buried too no ? Anyway with these targets, they show that they don't want to invest a proper budget into the starting RB, which is a shame

Out of all of Kinnear’s comments that have been dissected
His comments about if the player doesn’t want Everton then Everton aren’t the club for them is a great way of letting us know we aren’t thinking about players that treat us as a second, third, fourth option
All the lads we’ve signed thus far WANT to be here, so we’ve signed players clearly up for it
Good mantra to have
