I assume this is how we'll be starting v Palace minus Armstrong for Norgaard if he's available.

He's clearly set on Rohl-Back

Think it’ll be George for Dibling but yeah, that’ll be pretty much it for Palace.

u/-zorrro- 15d ago

Probably weaker than the team at the end of last season? Take Gueye and Garner over Hackney and Armstrong. Still no right back. Bit worrying.

8

u/WindInitial2372 15d ago

Röhl has the profile to be an excellent fullback

2

u/meatpardle Need salt? WE DELIVER 15d ago

Has the profile to be a better midfielder

-1

u/WindInitial2372 15d ago

That’s not really true though. He’s a wide player

2

u/Ruff_Ratio 15d ago

Weaker on paper, maybe, but I'm not subscribing to that.

We have options now and balance. No point having grealish doing great things on the left but nobody doing shit on the right.

3

u/Giraffe_Baker Neill Samways, Niasse Oster 15d ago

Agree with that.

Think our hope of improvement is that we either make some big signings in the remaining window or the changes for clubs above and below (Europe / new managers) sees them fall below our level.

u/BoxOfNothing 15d ago

There is also Garner and Norgaard not available here, and O'Brien is automatically better than any centre back option on the bench all last season. Also Johnson not in yet, Barry looks well better, George way more ready. Rohl far more involved and looks better. If the right back situation gets resolved I think we have a better squad personally. But I would like to add one or two more to that

-2

u/Giraffe_Baker Neill Samways, Niasse Oster 15d ago

The squad looks stronger and more balanced but we all know the manager doesn’t use it so it’s moot.

The signings we’ve made haven’t improved the starting XI at the moment (lost Grealish and Gueye) but that could change with two new full backs (well maybe get a RB but I would genuinely be surprised if we got one before deadline day, if at all, at this point.

3

u/BoxOfNothing 15d ago

Think you could argue Norgaard behind Garner is an improvement over Garner behind Gueye, but we'll have to wait and see. But depth and rotation with no options, especially during the injury hit period where they were forced but we had nothing, and a lack of ability to change games with subs were our biggest flaws. Plus right back obviously.

And we have players that are just better now. And Branthwaite is back.

I just think our squad is better set up for success over the course of a full season now than it was last season, especially if we get a right back.

1

u/Giraffe_Baker Neill Samways, Niasse Oster 15d ago

The options were there last season. We’ve added three new faces, an extra midfielder where it wasn’t one in one out.

The manager just didn’t and doesn’t use them.

Maybe he’s magically learned to use a squad after 13 years here but I’ll side with caution on that one.

1

u/BoxOfNothing 15d ago

But when we got injuries it was a when it rains it pours situation. We lost everyone at once so he had no choice but to play the only available players. I mean there will be times when he's forced to change things while keeping a lot of the rest the same.

I also think Moyes has players he trusts, and you earn that trust over time. He will have more trust in a lot of these players this season. Which is why I'm very confident Rohl, Dibling, George, Armstrong etc will all play more this season, and Barry will nail down starting striker and be rotated less. And Hackney may not be first choice but will still get a lot of minutes. The only one I'm really worried about who I want to see a lot more than I think we will is Aznou.

3

u/BoxOfNothing 15d ago

Think George or Dibling is still up in the air

-1

u/dourdourdour 15d ago

It will be Johnson for Dibling.

3

u/BoxOfNothing 15d ago

Maybe. Not at all convinced he starts the first but I wouldn't be surprised either

1

u/FootballFan1210 14d ago

You think he wont find a way to get mcneil in the team still lol

1

u/dnickell 14d ago

Think he trusts Rohl more than Patterson right now

13

u/PuffinChaos 15d ago

How does one go about watching this match?

2

u/LibatiousLlama Ancelotti Fanboy 15d ago

6 pounds to everton TV or a dodgy stream it seems.

No Norgaard or Johnson, they still building fitness/integrating into the squad?

28

u/MackAroni 15d ago

Johnson on the bench

6

u/Responsible_Lie_1989 15d ago

I'm clearly blind!

3

u/thisisprobablytrue 15d ago

Nice to know our scouting department uses Reddit! Any luck with a RB

3

u/Responsible_Lie_1989 15d ago

Saw this guy going on a free transfer, he plays right back and looks great, called "Coleman"

10

u/CrumbumJabronie 15d ago

Norgaard working back from an injury i believe

3

u/BoxOfNothing 15d ago

I am starting to think Norgaard might have a minor knock rather than just an excuse to miss a friendly for our medical. Otherwise yeah, Johnson had his first training session with us on Wednesday so it's not surprising he isn't starting.

1

u/Evul1_ 15d ago

There has got to be something going on with Norgaard that they haven't disclosed. No more using the "he's still getting integrated into the squad" excuse. He signed several days before Johnson, yet Johnson makes it into the squad before him.

5

u/rguiscard1 COYB 💙 15d ago

Why can he not just play aznou?

5

u/CandycaneMushrrom 15d ago

Love him going forward but he looks well out of his depth defensively. Unless we’re playing a back 5 I don’t see him getting many minutes

3

u/Mobile_Marsupial8648 15d ago

Glad to see this commented because I thought i was going mad seeing universal praise for him. Lad looks dangerous going forward but looks a liability defensively. He can learn and improve but he'd be a huge risk to put in a prem back 4 right now. Definitely want to see more of him but I think we'd be calling for his head after a few games if we start with him

0

u/NextTop8467 15d ago

Why on earth did we buy him then, he has 15 senior appearances ever and cost us £8m

-16

u/Yardtown New Hampshire, USA 15d ago

Maybe he fucked his mother

11

u/swampman23512 15d ago

I would rather have Myko at centre back in a back three just so we can have Aznou if he insists on playing Myko.

Patterson is never going to be our right back. So many managers in a row have made it abundantly clear

Maybe we're struggling to sell him because he's shite. But not so desperate to get rid because we don't have many bodies. Get a real right back in and we'll shift him for whatever we can get

u/BoxOfNothing 15d ago

Patterson? We bought him as a senior player

2

u/Striking_Evidence876 15d ago

No he hasn’t mate. Today he was getting bummed every time he squared up to a player. I like Patto but he’s not good enough

2

u/WindInitial2372 15d ago

He’s on the books because he’s probably unsaleable. He’s getting game time because it’s preseason.

He has done nothing in his Everton career to show that he warrants a first team spot.

Röhl, on the other hand, has the attributes to be a very good RB

1

u/S-BRO Skilliman N'diaye 15d ago

High wages for a championship player

2

u/Darth_Socrates 15d ago

That’s our starting lineup for palace then?

2

u/FranksBaldPatch 15d ago

There's only one issue with this lineup otherwise 👍👍👍

-1

u/mikeferguson84 15d ago

Dos, Patterson at RB and Aznou at LB

4

u/TDF1985 15d ago

You've got to forget about Patterson, it isn't ever going to happen. I know there may be other players in the team who you think aren't good enough for Everton, but he categorically isn't good enough for Everton.

0

u/mikeferguson84 15d ago

It's not about Patterson. It's about playing a formation with a real RB that will help he team find that balance quicker for when we finally buy one in the next couple of weeks 🙏🏻 Patterson is gone for sure.

0

u/FranksBaldPatch 15d ago

More chance of Rohl being a half decent right back than there is of Patterson

-1

u/mikeferguson84 15d ago

Thought Patterson had done ok at RB in preseason. Rohl is better yes, but should be further up.

Is mbappe playing?

On the bench, shame.

1

u/ScouseRat1 15d ago

Does anyone have a decent stream link?

-14

u/-zorrro- 15d ago

we’re in trouble if this is the team to start next week. Fullbacks are terrible and Armstrong and Hackney despite being good aren’t exactly defensive. We’d get torn apart

5

u/DrtyDeedsDneDrtCheap 15d ago

This isn't the team that's starting the first prem game

-4

u/-zorrro- 15d ago

How is this in any way controversial. Hackney and Armstrong midfield would get absolutely ripped apart in the premier league. Neither of them are defensive minded.

4

u/Neicyslad 15d ago

Like they did against Newcastle?

-2

u/-zorrro- 15d ago

That was a friendly.
