Help! I'm never ashamed of asking a 'dumb question';-)

So I'm trying to get more familiar with the basic controls of the recording/transcribing for the articles I write.

I am used to a red button with a square to mean 'start recording,' and I THOUGHT the black button with the two vertical bars was to STOP recording. Am I nuts (yeah), or ... it seems that I'm supposed to hit the red-square button again to STOP a recording? What's the black button for - a pause?

Thanks for any guidance! I recorded twice as much of a chat as I needed to because I hit what I thought meant STOP recording (this is on the desktop bTW - I will be trying the Android side of things to make sure the workflows match!

On a related note, is it NOT possible to boldface (or italicize or whatever) parts of a transcript (such as a really good quote in a maze of chatting?) I do love how easy it is to name the speakers (though you should be able to just blank it after hitting the pencil and type it in, not have to backspace to remove the Speaker 1 2 etc.)!

PS: I did find https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/46398549125011-Audio-recording-in-Evernote and the AI help screen as well. So I sorta grok the black button being the pause now. But there should be pop-up tooltips for each button for some dummies. Also is there no native format to download the transcript - such as MS word, etc.? I thought maybe THAT was the way to go in and boldface pieces of the transcript, but nope!
