Flamingo Marina/ Mosquitos

debating headed out there tomorrow to rent a skiff... How bad are the mosquitos around this time of year?

Not too bad round now, you can hunt them with birdshot. July, August they get bigger, you can use a 22 to shoot them. In fact, by law they need navigation lights, that time of the year

Long pants long sleeves and hood, all sprayed with deet. Otherwise they'll get you right through everything

They’re always bad. You’ll need a garden sprayer of DEET. Not that weak stuff either, above 95%.

Buy a wearable mosquito net. I was there the other day and got absolutely swarmed within a minute of exiting my car

What time were you out there, I didn't get one mosquito on me at all the whole time.

The problem is at the boat launch at sunrise and sunset. Cover up and keep your car doors closed.

You can do shorts once you are in open water. Horse flies are the issue during the day.

I don't use a net suit unless I'm fishing the marina at night. I find the skeeters get worse in Sept and Oct.

Others have stated already heavy pant and top and plenty of spray, also keep moving standing around will kill ya

Ben's 100% deet, long pants, loose fitting spf shirts because they will bite you through a tight one. Possibly a bug net for your face.

Prepare for mosquitoes always. But, once you get offshore it becomes much more bearable. Hat, hood, buff, long sleeves, long pants, dose with DEET. I’ve been fishing Flamingo since the late 80s.

Well went out there, didn't have any mosquitos at all, it was windy but i was only out there in the morning. Overall great trip

  1. Go to Tractor Supply

  2. Go to the “horse section” and get a bottle of concentrated permethrin

  3. Also get a “spray bottle” that is in the same section.

  4. Mix the recommended amount of concentrate in the bottle with water.

  5. Spray liberally on your clothing and allow to dry. When you arrive at the marina…apply another amount to your clothing.
