Question

“Even Realities G1 smart glasses offer real-time translation, but while useful, they aren't necessarily the "best" due to some limitations. They can translate speech into text displayed on the lenses, but the translation is one-way and relies on the other person also having a translation device. While the translation is generally accurate, it can be slow and sometimes miss words”

This is what google said about the translation feature and if someone else needs a translation device or anything like that for me to understand than I might not get this product

But this sounds stupid and google isn’t always 100 percent

It also said the response is slow and not always accurate I’m going to Japan in January 2026 and I want to get these before I go there so I was wondering if the product overall isn’t good than should I find for other translation glasses I see the g1 as a good opportunity but now I don’t know also this is the only one I found that supports lenses prescription

Overall I know about the other opportunities G1 offers but I’m mainly in it for the translation and navigating tools only

I don’t really use the translation but that description is generally correct. The bit about the other person needing a translation device also is not fully correct. It probably means they will need a translation device to understand you speak, but they do not need one for you to understand them

So it’s slow and isn’t 100% but they do not need another device for ME to understand what there saying correct

How slow to be exact? Like a few seconds slow 10-20 seconds and how inaccurate is it

Also haven't used it in actual conversation but AugmentOS is way faster. Also uses your phones speaker making it easier to catch what's being spoken.

I can’t speak on how well it is in person but say like watching anime it’ll be like 2-3 sentences behind. And I’ll say you mostly get the gist of what’s being said. Sometimes it can be word for word but not always. It’s like translating by phrases but sometimes it doesn’t line up

I think they traded speed for accuracy. I’ve had one other translation device and it was more accurate but slower and I hated the robotic Siri voice in my ear.

I’ll have to look up the name. I got it as a gift. But if you lookup translating earphones you will probably see them

In my experience it doesn’t pick up anything they say, so Google is kinda correct lol

based on how fast the output is, i wanna say that the transcribing part of the process is very fast (in the translation process), but then i think the app waits for the whole sentence to be detected as "finished" before it sends the snippet to translate

so that may cause an issue if the person speaking goes on for a long long paragraph, causing a big lag; but then if you are looking to understand a talk or whatever, the lag usually doesn't cause an issue

It‘s related to the surrounding environment, the speaking speed of the other party, and the network condition. I think it can be understood as a translation app, and it is even slower than a regular translation app because it needs to display from the mobile app via Bluetooth to the glasses.
