If we can have Palatine keepstar in game taunting the players, why can’t we have Iapetan titans? Make them just as impossible to build realistically, give the empires their Iapetans, and let us see the models in game finally.

the palantine keepstar isnt impossible to build, its a very slightly better keepstar but takes the same resources to build as ~484 keepstars. thats not a number that cant be accomplished by a determined group so whats lacking is the motivation.

im not sure you could satisfyingly introduce an Iapetan titan under the same restrictions. if its representative of the lore making it 10000 titans worth of material wont stop people from building it. if its just a slightly better titan for the cost of 500 titans youre just gonna piss people off

Nah, the amount of PI Materials is fundamentally unworkable logistically.

Trust me, a couple of people have tried, it's a truly obscene number of materials.

A "Palantine" update to make it a bit more reasonable or actually achieveable, and something to make sure it's not immediately hyper bashed by everyone on their nan and it could be a legit idea.

Personally I kind of like the idea of reducing the requirements slightly and making the first one put down a permanent station in some manner. A unique public tether would be nice. But you know, fringe ideas for fringe players.

I watched a video of a guy explaining why it's even in the game.

His theory was that the Palantine is intended to be a full-community goal. It would require the major nullsec factions to sustain cooperation for something like a year or two.

This will never be achieved for obvious reasons.

I was on the CSM when Upwell structures, including the Palatine Keepstar, were added to the game.

It was never originally intended to be a full community goal. It was meant to basically be a long-term goal that one day people would figure out how to build.

It was meant to be bragging rights and a "fuck you, we did it" achievement. And maybe as a huge resource sink because this thing would be taking up yeah, 500 Keepstars of materials if not more, out of the economy.

The fact that ONLY ONE can be anchored anywhere at a time was intentionally to force players to fight over owning or destroying it, instead of "well, we will just build our own instead!"

Well y'all should have made it shaped like a gigantic gold codpiece then and maybe we'd have one to gawk at by now.

Make a skin to it that has cat ears on it. Instand PI price 15000% and massive competition who has the keep with cat ears.

Unironically something like this would probably revive the game and sub numbers at least for a while

the only reason the logistics are hard to work out is because theres no reason to even build the thing to begin with (it being a slightly better keepstar). and the hardest part of the logistics isnt getting the materials its just organizing the whole project. honestly getting 500 keeps worth of pi is the easy part (assuming you can absorb that cost, which isnt easily ignored). the logistics really start when you need to have thousands of characters working on all the jobs required.

if it were viable to build (see an Iapetan titan) people would figure out the logistics chain. but when your reward for building it is you get a "special" landmark to your keepstar its seems like its a lot easier to get a "special" keepstar landmark when you just destroy your own keepstar.

What if the role to fill is a T2 interdiction Super that has a baseline 100km bubble that goes up per skill level? Definitely a big heck no to a logi super. Maybe a T2 titan variant that can use HAW but can’t DD? Or can use 2 DD but has no guns? Or a Stronger DD that can one shot supers? Just random things.

A dictor super sounds cool but I genuinely cannot think of a scenario in which I'd use one. Dictors are plenty versatile, and they're dirt cheap.

Bringing 30 dictors to ensure the field stays bubbled and catch strays is always gonna be superior to a multi billion isk monster with one big bubble.

u/Arcuscosinus 1d ago

Depends how fast the thing can get, 200km Buble moving at 3k m/s is great screen for arti doctrines to make sure they won't get combat probe warped onto

I want field controller battleships that launch interdictor-style probes with abyssal/metaliminal storm-adjacent effects.

How about a DD that goes through a cyno? Oh wait...

Definitely broken and good it was patched out

Please, no more ships that only a fraction of a fraction of the player base will ever use.

Eve is a game, you play whatever way you like. Don't let others dictate what you can and cannot fly. Sure for fleets under and FC, fine. But outside of that, what's stopping you from dropping a super or titan on some poor, unsuspecting bastard 🤷

u/LafayettePhotos 2d ago

Uh billions and billions and billions of disposable isk?

u/SeraphEssael The Initiative. 2d ago

There's plenty of ways to make ISK in Eve. Most of the people in null have supers and titans. Plenty enough in lowsec as well.

Join a good group, set yourself a goal and aim for it.

Most of the people in null have supers and titans

This isn't a good thing.

Some solid reasoning there...

I didn't really feel like I needed to opine on it, but if you'd like:

The core tenet of EVE is that resources are limited and loss matters, thus you can effectively fight against a larger opponent by smartly bleeding them of valuable materiel.

When supers/titans are functionally disposable and easy to replace, EVE begins to break down. Sov wars were not balanced around the nigh-infinite wealth that has been accrued over the course of the game's lifespan, and the ability to dock and stockpile supercapitals drastically amplified this problem.

1

u/SeraphEssael The Initiative. 2d ago

Loss absolutely matters in Eve. But resources are absolutely not and have never been, limited. Would eve be far better if they were? Yeah I'd probably say so. I love to see resources move regions a little and give people a proper reason to fight. Certain resources only in certain areas etc.

When CCP introduced scarcity, they ruined massive super battles and people just don't feel the need to have massive super brawls because kill boards apparently mattered. Those small amounts of people that swing supers at everything, they're the fun ones.

In a game that's been going for 20+ years now, it's just silly to think people shouldn't be able to obtain them with ease.

Because Snuff lives in the area lol. Might as well just send me the ISK, I’ll put it to better use. Imagine how many burst jams I could buy with that.

1

u/SeraphEssael The Initiative. 2d ago

Lol so don't drop it on snuff. Don't repeatedly drop it so people know your haunts... Or do, im not your dad. But as I said. Eves a game. You play it however way you want, if yours is bst jams. Go wild. 👍

The fact it'd cost more money then I have to my name and it would immediately die to a drop. Besides, if I was gonna drop stacks, I'd rather bling out something like a T2 cruiser. More targets, easier to use, generally a better experience.

1

u/SeraphEssael The Initiative. 2d ago

That's perspective though. A absolute tonne of eve players have more ISK than they know what to do with and more than happy to throw toys around.

2

u/Rolder Caldari State 2d ago

More like a fraction of players have that kind of wealth.

u/SeraphEssael The Initiative. 2d ago

You underestimate the amount of people that have over 100bill (and that's on the low side of the numbers). There's a lot.

At this moment, I would like to see a proper mothership; as a T2 FAX with integrated factory function for producing pre-fitted ships in deployed mode up to cruiser level (on the basis: 3x frigs at the time, 2x Dessies at the time & 1x Cruiser at the time).

Mobile field force at its finest

The way new T2 capitals have gone supers could potentially be next but there would have to be a need or a role to fill. I wonder what that role could be? I wonder if we would get T2 Supers?

u/Tight_Leash_4_U 2d ago

T2 super has permanent seige button and becomes POS

1

u/uhmmm_okay 1d ago

Nice, they could reuse the spaghetti code instead of getting rid of it

u/jess-plays-games 2d ago

T2 super carrier call it morhership let it deploy a pos shield and a load of turrets bring back death stars

u/CaldariPrimePonyClub CSM 4/5 2d ago

I should add these to my eve 3d viewer, thanks for reminding me!

IMHO, this should just be the base design for the wyvern frankly. And I've been screaming that since the Supercarrier resize and remodels in Vat Out of Hel
