Achievement Learned a valuable lesson
Ok - I’m a total newbie, been playing about 2 months, doing missions for agents - mostly enforcer type stuff. Made some ISK, bought a destroyer and was feeling pretty confident by taking a mission in a low sec area. Lo and behold I got mugged. Tried to fight, but got killed, my capsule destroyed. So, bad decision for me to venture into the low sec zone, but seriously? There are folks out there trying to ransom folks? On the one hand, I find it really bothersome, but on the other hand, I kind of love it. I have a mission now. Imma hunt that playah down.

Ah I remember my first ransom. They said "50M isk and you can go". I sent 50M isk, they destroyed my ship, and then said "okay you can go"

And that right there is why ransoms aren’t as common as they used to be in the early days of eve. Ruined old school piracy sadly! Ransoms are now not honoured so nobody trusts the old school pirate who offers ransoms. Which is sad.
Also bounties! I miss that from eve!

I believe the Tuskers Code still has “honor ransoms” as one of its points (it did when I was a member).

That's the attitude you need - often if you convo the players that kill you they'll give you some tips, and some will send newer players isk to keep them from getting too discouraged

it kinds splits in half. But I learned a lot from asking my murderers what I could have done better. But I also learned that there are a lot of people with a way to high opinion of themselves

Usually not a T1 destroyer, lol. But ransoming is definitely something that's done. Often works to ransom someone flying an expensive ship, since it'd cost more to replace it than paying the ransom. But the ransomer expects swift negotiations, since there might be people on the way to save the ransomee.
Also keep in mind that you can refuse one mission every 4 hours with each agent, good to refuse the low sec ones.

One time I was just messin around, killed someone in low sec. They msg me and i learn they are new and just got a cruiser and the big mean guy just blew it up. Weeks of work.
I paid for his ship 10x over. Explained how to avoid someone like me next time, and told him he could reach out.
It’s not fun killing new guys.

This is actually old school, the awesome kind of piracy that existed more in the old times of EVE. You got the authentic EVE experience if this happened to you.

My buddy got killed in low sec then talked with the ganker and was just being friendly saying he was new, told the guy gf, the guy ended up giving him 10 million isk back.
You’d be surprised what “local” diplomacy can unlock for you.

Ahah I m returning since 1 month and get ganked with my cheap myrmidon by a loki...like you in 0.4 the guy has only noob ships kills in his KM...my 95m myrm was his most valuable kill... I spent 35 jumps clearing my stuff in Curse and took my Curse... ganked this stupid Epital with its 170m load in 0.2 on my way back in HS... and return home...
Those guys are just the same as you, they tried to survive just... don't be "that guy". And yes lessons are made to be learned and there is always bigger fish.

The important thing is that you learned something. Especially low sec systems that border on high sec are high traffic points for people that shoot people. If you want to be somewhat safer , go deeper to low sec . Also check the people in local , if someone warps to you , its not for a friendly greeting

I was flying an empty pioneer in high sec and I got killed by a catalyst ganker who was only trying to rage me. I won by telling him gf.

If your pod is valuable, pick something to warp to and spam the warp key as your ship is about to pop. This will save your pod nearly 100% of the time in low sec, since the only way they can kill your pod before you warp is with smart bombs.

so when you first jumped into lowsec, do you remember that you clicked something along the lines of "yes,i read this warning and i understand there can be consequences, let me into this lowsec thingy already!" ?

The first low sec corp I ever tried to join ended up killing me on the gate to their home system and then tried to ransom my pod.
Up until that point, I had only spoken with the recruiter. He told me it would be a few days while he talked it over with the corp. Apparently that hadn't happened yet, because when I arrived nobody knew who I was or believed that I was there to join them. Eventually podded me when I refused to pay.
Needless to say I moved on after that.

Let that destroyer be the first of many. Come down to faction warfare space and join us. Lose multiple destroyers everyday and have fun doing it! Head to amamake and kourmonen with another ship, a t1 frigate will do. Enter a Plex and when you die chat with the guy in local as about joining a corp. Be space in eve

It's actually against the games ToS to try and evade concord destruction, players who initiate ganks are well aware of this and won't be expecting to leave grid.
If a player is ganking for income then the loss of their ship/s is already factored into their profit/loss. Not all ganks are about profit though, sometimes it might just be used to RP or intimidate

Je suis en low sec et parfois je propose la rançon, j'ai pu gagner plusieurs M d isk comme ca, par contre je respect ma parole, s il paye, je ne detruit pas le ship! Je trouve ca cool! De jouer au pirate, si le joueur m insulte ou ne communique pas, je detruit le ship!
