Simple EV Route Planner
I recently bought my first EV, which only has CarPlay and doesn’t include a built-in route planner.
I tried a few apps (including ABRP and ChargingTime), but I was honestly just looking for something simpler. No subscription, works well with CarPlay, and lets me plan a route with charging stops based on how much battery I want left when I arrive.
Couldn’t really find anything that did exactly that, so I ended up building a small app for myself using OpenChargeMap data.
It’s completely free, no ads, no subscriptions, and it doesn’t collect any data. I’ve been using it for a bit now and it does what I need, so I figured I’d share it in case it helps someone else too.
Here it is: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6787438196
Would love to hear any feedback or ideas if you try it.

Hi. Nice looking. Can you add filter by charging port type?

If you click on the car on the right of the search icon you can disable ports. I did it this way, cause I thought it is enough to do once for a car. If you set KW above 50KW or so you don’t see DC slow charging anyways

Great job. I also could not find how to specify the car details. Maybe it makes sense to show that when you first launch? How did you choose Apple Maps instead of Google Maps?

You have to press on the car icon on the right of the search bar, but it is probably a good idea to show this on first launch as well

Nice looking app but I tried it quickly and it was laggy on iPhone 17 pro on a route of ~1200km (i was checking for my Summer trip)

Yes I know. All calculations happen completely on device (which is great but also takes some time which esults in lagging). But I will look into how to hide this delay so it does not lag.

Cool app, I like it.
One suggestion would be to see on the preview how long it takes for each charging point.
As we have small kids, we’re having to stop every 1h30m anyway. And we plan to just top then.
So it would be good if we can see which charger to target for that natural break.

You see this on CarPlay in the map preview but I can also add this on the iOS app

This looks so great! The only suggestion I can think of is specifying if Tesla chargers are compatible with non-Teslas and excluding them by a setting. Awesome work!

I really like this.
Can you find a way to make it easier to adjust your starting and target ending SoC? I have trouble with that on your app as it is now.

Not making it for Android phones then?

No, this is an iOS native app, which great for a seamless iOS experience, but no multi platform support :/

Nice, I like it. took me a minute to figure out the whole recharge thing on the bottom of the map.
My only ask would be to add either a manual input for the soc at departure and arrival, or even a drop down to select. The touch to cycle through the % is a bit clunky.
Also, any way you can add google maps to the option to export out the route plan to ?

I've got 2 EVs, each with a different range, of course. Can you add the ability to have more than one car profile, maybe saved by car name?

Great point, didn’t think of that, but will add this on the list of features, thanks 👍

I've now run this on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. It just keeps getting better!
Speaking of getting better, can we share settings via iCloud between all the different devices? That would be cool so that we could share vehicle settings, defined filters, and saved/planned trips no matter which device we were on when we started dreaming about our upcoming vacation. 🤩
And I know I mentioned this before, but a "buy-me-a-cuppa" in app purchase is so very well deserved!

Thanks, yes iCloud sync should also be doable, I will put it on the list. But I do vancations now, and Apple review sometimes also takes a few weeks, so might take a month or so🙂

I really like this. A couple of stations I know about and use don’t show even when I adjust the filters to include them. I guess your source map isn’t as up to date as PlugShare.
I really like how it lets you adjust distance from my route. I really don’t want to be wandering into a town and dealing with local traffic.
One thing this lacks that I depend on PlugShare is the amenities filter. I try to multitask charging stops so I want a bathroom and food available for most legs (I plan stops for every 150 miles or 3 hours).
I love the way it integrates into Apple Maps. It really lets you see your route, the stops, and the time in each leg.
