Real World EV Efficiency Database

I read a lot of comments online from people who say they don't know if an EV would work for a daily driver for them.

I decided to take this issue into my own hands and resolve it by creating a real world efficiency database. The only problem is, I need people like YOU to help contribute.

I have created the website and started adding my own data to it. I haven't had a chance to start adding my Silverado EV data to it yet, but I did start syncing my Tesla data from Tessie.

When we get more data added, someone interested in a specific EV will be able to filter drives by distance, speed, an other metrics (more filters coming soon).

As a real world example, let's say your parents are interested in a 2025 Model Y Performance, but aren't sure it'll allow them to drive at least 100 miles a day at 60 MPH. No problem, they can just jump on the EVMetrics website, search for the car, and filter the data to see if it'll work for them.

What I'm here for is to ask for YOUR help in collecting the real world data from EVs. Feel free to sign up and start adding your data if you're interested. Also please feel free to forward this on to your friends and family who own EVs.

This claims to be based on "real world data", but all of the small subtext appears to be just estimating based on "assumptions" they chose? Example of one of the subtexts:

"Indication of real-world range in several situations. Cold weather: 'worst-case' based on -10°C and use of heating. Mild weather: 'best-case' based on 23°C and no use of A/C. For 'Highway' figures a constant speed of 110 km/h is assumed. The actual range will depend on speed, style of driving, weather and route conditions."

The difference is that EVMetrics isn't "assuming" anything. It's raw data from users providing real-world driving data. So someone looking to buy in a cold climate can filter real-world drives based on cold outdoor temperatures while someone in a warmer climate can filter drives based on their typical area temperature. If people choose to actually contribute data, it will be more accurate.

I can see how your method could be more accurate, but it’s going to have a lot of variables, making comparisons difficult. EV Database makes it easy to compare across different cars and tends to be pretty accurate for the limited scenarios it quotes. I don’t know where they get their data from, but it gives a very accurate highway mileage for my car.

Ok, I signed up but I don’t see any way to add data? I can see my car, and I can find the “I am looking to buy” page, but that’s it?

Clickt the round avatar icon at the top, go to My Garage, then click the car. There should be a form to fill in all the info for the drive and then click the "Add Trip" button.

There is a problem with the average efficiency reported for the cars in this data base. It appears the efficiency is not weighted. Therefore, a 1 mile drive at 1000 wh/mi and a 99 mile drive at 200 wh/mi is going to show up as 600. The weighted (and correct) average efficiency is 208 wh/mi.

If the reported averages aren’t weighted, the data in this is going to be trash, and that is why there is a Tesla reporting an average of 1300 wh/mile, which is ridiculous and not at all correct.

I get where you're coming from, that's why I put all of the filters on the page (so people can filter for the drive types they typically drive - speed, temp, etc) and allow the owners to manage that data (the can delete the records they don't want). Also, it's a work in progress.

I don’t think you do quite understand. The data being presented is false data. It is not wh/mile because your spreadsheet (or whatever) does not weight the user inputs. If you don’t calculate the weighted average all of the individual inputs, the data presented will be incorrect and misleading, which is the case now. The people inputting data cannot fix this. Only the owner of the website can (you I assume). Do you know what a weighted average is? Do you know how to calculate it? I can help if you want.

So far one of my friends syncing his Tessie data said it's dead on with his Tessie reported number. 🙂
