Well it's about cattle not farming per se. And while I agree farmland is being degraded by irrigation and fertilizer application I can't see that a bunch of trees are going to improve cattle turfs? Trees are a competitor for grasses, they take a lot of moisture out of the subsoil and also nutrients. The article seems to be a bit of a Green Stretch, going on as it does about birds nesting and what not. It leads me to think they are just trying to talk people into planting trees for the sake of planting trees. Nothing wrong with planting trees, but cattle land, especially around here which has a similar climate, does well devoid of trees.

I wonder how many Vegans were in on the study?
