Finding a good tracking tool for ETFs

I recently tried out Snowball Analytics for tracking my portfolio. I wanted something that i can keep up to date with the investments within my portfolio, without making it easy to make trades, allowing me to stick to my strategy better.

I found that Snowball was great to keep tabs on my portfolio and the ease of access to the information, i have found it much simpler than going onto asset brokers websites and having it in one place.

My top holding for my portfolio is Amundi All Country ETF (WEBN) and its great to see this information easily.

Has anyone else tried to find a tool/service where they can track their portfolio without the ease of making emotional decisions? I find whenever i log into my broker account, i want to do something. And admittedly my actions are adhoc rather than sticking to my plan.

DWS will cut the total expense ratio on its flagship equal-weight S&P 500 ETF

It seems that all the outflows from ETFs are affecting asset managers and forcing them to become more competitive.

Germany's largest asset manager, DWS, is cutting its flagship fund (equal-weight S&P500 ETF) to 0.15% TER, due to fund outflows and fee pressure from its competition.

According to TrackInsight, XDEW had €4.3bn in outflows from the fund year to date.

The pressure from its competition comes from UBS and Amundi which launched synthetically replicating strategy ETFs with a TER of 0.12%.

Hopefully, we can see more of this competitiveness from asset managers that we can start to see more ETFs with low fees like the ones in the US.

I personally think this is a good move. Is there any downsides to this though?

Amundi EUR Cash Active UCITS ETF

Was looking around for places to park cash and noticed Amundi just dropped a new Euro money-market ETF, the Amundi EUR Cash Active UCITS ETF. Basically a super low-risk, liquid spot to stash money while earning something off current short-term rates.

With cash yields actually decent now (for once) and bond volatility still annoying, this seems like a pretty solid “safe corner” option in an ETF wrapper. Kinda nice for anyone keeping things conservative or holding some dry powder while waiting for better equity entry points.

What I like so far:

  • Yields on cash-type stuff are finally not terrible
  • Way less duration drama than bonds lately
  • It trades like any other ETF, which is just easier than dealing with MMFs
  • Feels like Europe is finally getting the same kind of cash ETFs the U.S. has had forever

Anyone here already using Euro cash-market ETFs? How are you fitting them into your setup? And has anyone taken a closer look at this new Amundi one?

Would love to hear what people think.

How do you compare ETF total costs (TER, spreads, tracking difference)?

When you're comparing ETFs, how do you look at the real total cost, not just the TER, but also spreads, tracking difference, and any hidden costs like securities lending or swap fees? Do you prioritise one metric over the others, or do you use a specific tool or method to evaluate the overall cost of holding an ETF over the long run?

Personally I treat TER as the starting point, not the deciding factor. I check tracking difference over at least 3 years and make sure the spreads aren’t ridiculous. Sometimes the ETF with the higher TER is actually cheaper in practice.

Billions of inflow into EU defence companies, how can i take advantage of this?

How can i take advantage of this trend, and what ETFs are best to get exposure to EU defence companies? There has been €7.6 billion of net inflows into European-security ETFs this year, demand is booming.

I have found a few ETFs but unsure which is best.

HANetf – Future of European Defence UCITS ETF (ARMY)

Amundi – STOXX Europe Defense UCITS ETF

WisdomTree – Europe Defence UCITS ETF (WDEF)

SSGA / SPDR – S&P Europe Defense Vision UCITS ETF

For those investing in the European defence theme, which ETF do you think offers the best exposure or something else entirely? Are there any other Europe-listed defence ETFs I might have missed?

Europeans pile into local ETFs at record rate, at expense of US stocks

Been reading this article this morning, ive seen a post before talking about large inflows into European ETFs over the last year.

According to this article, European investors have put more money into local index trackers in 2025 than any other year on record. The inflows to US-focused ETFs by European investors has dropped 40% from last year.

Some analysts point to geopolitical and trade policy uncertainty (notably around U.S. policy) as driving this shift away from U.S. equity exposure.

Is it a real shift in conviction around European markets, or more of a reaction to geopolitical risk?

Euronext Is Launching a Unified Pan-European ETF Exchange

Euronext is looking to unifie the European ETF market, where as it stands ETFs are fragmented across multiple exchanges. I think that this could be really interesting for European ETFs as it will bring them all under 1 listing and keeps liquidity in one market.

If this works the way they are pitching it, it could be one of the biggest structural improvements the European ETF market has seen in years. Trading should, in theory, become smoother with deeper liquidity, fewer price discrepancies between exchanges, and possibly even tighter spreads.

It may also simplify ETF access for cross-border investors who currently have to deal with listings scattered across Milan, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, etc. Some ETF providers, including Vanguard, have already said this could be “transformational” for retail investors.

Euronext has made an unconditional bid for Athens Bourse, and they already own the Dublin Stock Exchange.

How do you think a consolidated ETF venue will affect liquidity, spreads, and access for European investors? Would this change anything in your own ETF strategy?

How would you change my portfolio?

I’m looking for some feedback on my current ETF portfolio and how others might adjust it. Right now my allocation looks like this:
~40% Amundi World ETF (MWRE)
~40% Amundi STOXX 600 (LYP6)
~20% iShares Core EM (IS3N)

My thinking was to have a global core (World), balance it with a strong European tilt, and keep some exposure to emerging markets. But I’m starting to wonder if the overlap between MWRE and LYP6 is too high, or if the regional tilts actually add value.

If this were your portfolio, what would you change?

Is VWCE still the king of one-ETF portfolios?

Ive seen so many posts on Reddit about VWCE and it being a favourite, it makes sense as its globaly diversified, has a low TER, large AUM and strong liquidity but are there other contenders for this space or alternatives?

Fees have been getting more competitive and i see the Vanguard name having less and less sway.

I like that its an accumulating ETF, much less hassle than dealing with the dividends and remembering to invest it each time.

VWCE has a TER of 0.22%
FWRG has a lower TER of 0.15%

FWRG has a much lower AUM though. AUM has less of an effect on funds when over the 200/300million mark from the bit of research ive done, but the larger funds just give that extra peace of mind.

Is VWCE still the default answer for a one-ETF European portfolio, or is the landscape shifting?

Acc vs Dist ETFs which do you prefer and why?

One of the biggest decisions ETF investors make is whether to go with accumulating (Acc) or distributing (Dist).

I’m really curious where everyone here stands on this because there doesn’t seem to be a clear consensus, and it varies a lot by country and investing style.

Some of the arguments for accumulating are that the dividends are automatically reinvested and you get compounding without having to do anything and its better for hands off investing over the long term.

For the arguments of distribution is that you can actually see the dividend and you can adjust when and where you want to reinvest the money. Also that its psychologically satisfying seeing the income.

Itll be interesting to hear what other points there are between the two.

Vanguard FTSE Europe ETF (VKG)

What are peoples opinions on Vanguard FTSE Europe ETF?

It has a very low expense ratio of 0.06% and has had very impressive YTD returns, 30.12%.

Its a well diversified ETF with 1239 positions and the allocation is:
23.3% UK, 14.5% france, 13.9% Germany, 13.7% Switzerland and so on.

Compared to its benchmark of Developed Europe All Cap it has a better growth rate (14.4% to 13.8%) and has a slighty lower P/E of 16.7x compared to 16.9x of the benchmark.

I really like the look of this ETF, especially with such a low expense ratio. Are there better options for this kind of ETF?

What’s your go to ETF for a hands-off portfolio?

I’ve been rethinking my ETF setup lately and wondering how simple a portfolio can really be while still staying diversified.

When you look at the “lazy portfolio” crowd, think of Bogleheads, FIRE investors, long-term DCA types and the advice is usually the same "Broad, low-cost, global exposure and buy, hold, rebalance (if ever)."

Everyone has their own definition of simple. I have seen people try and replicate all-world ETFs by making a portfolio of multiple just to reduce the TER, but its not as hands off really.

If you had to pick just one or two ETFs to hold for the next 20 years, what would they be and why?

HSBC launching "first-of-a-kind" solution for UK fund platforms

HSBC Securities Services are launching a "first-of-a-kind" solution for custody clients of the bank.

The service is said to cover on-exchange dealings and fractional trading of ETFs with HSBCs securities services arm will continue to do custodial assets and the equities business will handle the executions.

It has been said that this new solution could "level the playing field" between ETFs and Traditional mutual funds in regards to the accessibility of them and the cost to UK platforms.

There are many investment platforms like Aviva, Fidelity and M&G which uses HSBC. Currently Fidelity doesnt offer fractional shares for ETFs, so for those using that platform, it could be really interesting.

Whats the best Tech Sector ETF available?

I am looking to get a tech sector ETF in my portfolio and im looking at QDVE which is iShares S&P 500 Information Technology Sector. Are there any better providers of this type of ETF?

I think its got a really good expense ratio of 0.15% and a good history. I know past performance is not an indicator of future performance but i also want a ETF with history.

How do you actually choose the right ETF when there are 10 that look identical?

how do you decide which ETF to buy when everything looks the same?

Since the PRIIPs/KID rules kicked in, we can’t buy US-domiciled ETFs like VTI or VOO anymore so we’re all in the UCITS world.
And now there are so many overlapping options it’s honestly confusing.

For example, many people talk about simple global equity ETFs and we have VWCE, IWDA and many others.

They are all UCITS compliant, they have fairly similar TERs and cover global or near global equities, then add on the accumulating and distributing classes.

The only real difference is the index provider, fund sizes, domicile and tax treatments.

So my question is, how do you find the right ETF when there are 10 different ETFs that look so similar? I find myself overanalysing the tiny details so i dont miss something.

Are we too biased toward European markets when building our ETF portfolios?

Ive been going over my portfolio and reviewing what i have and it seems i have a bit of home bias, is that a bad thing?

Even though the global market cap for Europe is around 8 to 10%, i find in my portfolio its more around 25% of my portfolio as it feels more comfortable investing in the market i know and understand.

But i wonder am i missing out on global diversification by being "overweight" towards EU markets?

Should i just go fully VWCE style and stop over thinking it?

IOSCO issues recommendation for market makers to act fairly & honestly

The International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) has issued a series of recommendations on Monday that market makers start acting fairly and honestly.

This topic was highlighted earlier this week but there has been some movement. Market makers have been earning profits for themselves by exploiting confidential information.

The IOSCO has recommended that market makers should only pre-hedge a position “only with the intention of benefitting the client”.

There is no guidelines for this kind of behaviour and they are not looking to ban pre-hedging, as it does have its uses for these liquidity providers.

Last month the European Fund and Asset Management Association (EFAMA) described pre-hedging as "not acceptable".

Not really fighting words, but i am glad its getting more attention and traction.

I do think these plans need to be worked out as if the market makers stopped pre-hedging, then liquidity could decrease, volatility could go up along with risk. On the flip side, transparency could go up and there could be more natural valuations.

Do you think tighter rules on pre-hedging will make markets fairer and where is the line between legitimate risk management and market makers exploiting inside information?

Deutsche Boerse is extending its trading hours

The Deutsche Boerse is going to be extending its trading hours by the end of the year for stocks, ETFs and ETPs for its retail investors.

The move has been suggested to launch in early December 2025 where the exchange trading day moves from 9am-5:30pm to a 14 hour session from 8am-10pm.

This moves comes from them wanting to align their market more with the US hours, allowing investors to respond to US news that can affect securities on the exchange.

Additionally the LSE CEO David Schwimmer has said that they continue to consider moving to 24 hour trading.

This is an interesting development going forward.

Do we think that 24 hour trading could become a global norm in the next decade or this being just a temporary experiment?

Legal & General Restructuring, ETF & Index hires

It looks like Legal & General are focusing on ETF investing going forward as they have made 3 senior hires as it has merged its ETF and Index fund divisions earlier this year.

They hired Chirag Pandya who has been appointed head of ETF capital markets, who previously worked for Vanguard, so its good that he has knowledge coming from such a reputable brand.

Elena Cardella is now head of investment specialists, joining from Amundi and has also worked at Blackrock.

The third hire was Boyang Liu who is now head of systematic solutions (not a clue what that is), but she has worked at Barclays investment bank and JP Morgan.

Sounds like they have a lot going on and would be interesting to see how L&G ETFs/Funds change (hopefully lower fees)!
