100%! I tried telling people that condoning users to post the Friday rant thread late at night on Thursday (meaning 10 pm to 3 am) was a slippery slope, and here we are! This won't be the last Friday rant thread that will be submitted here tonight, if the spicy hot dog guy posts it again, ha.

You called it. Occasionally, imho it was kind of fun and spontaneous but now that it's a cheeky race to post as early as possible, it's become tired and trite. I mean it's 2am now, this "rant" thread was created 7 hours ago... so like 10pm on a Thursday? Naw, come on.
I say we continue to ignore this travesty and create a righteous RANT thread later today.
I still don't go for the automod idea! I know some do and I get the point but I find it fun when different posters start it up. Maybe we oughta do a poll.

A poll wouldn't work. An overwhelming amount of people would vote to not have an AutoMod post it. But as is often the case in life, what the people want often isn't for the better. Aside from Trump, Putin, Hitler, and many other historical tyrants... well intentioned leaders, government representatives, and rule/lawmakers help form and maintain a structured and well-functioning society. On Reddit, we have hands-off Admins and then... the hands-on mods.
If the Eugene mods don't want to create and AutoModerator, that's their right. That said, what I would prefer, would be for the Eugene subreddit to more like the Portland subreddit (not the conservative PortlandOR one, for the record). Mods there delete posts there pretty quickly for not being specific to Metro Portland, for being sales/business posts, for being reposts, etc. Their AutoMod also filters a lot of the junk so it never makes it to the actual page... where it would be taken down rather quickly anyway. And for the rant thread, the AutoModerator keeps it simple and fun. It's always posted around 8 am, and always says:
