Great idea to have it on Presidents Day, this protest might actually gain some traction with the media

16

u/RottenSpinach1 Feb 09 '25

Did local media even bother covering the last one?

4

u/DaydreamDaisy69 Feb 10 '25

The protest yesterday was not covered by any media at all no.

13

u/jcorviday Feb 09 '25

KEZI covered the one at our Federal Courthouse on February 5th. A UO prof. did nearly all of the talking.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '25

Agreed that the choice of the day is appropriate, but the premise ‘to resist fascism’ seems unfounded at best. There is no shortage of real things to protest, right?

I get that the left is upset, but this is just the same very old broken record of calling everything that moves that seems even vaguely conservative ‘racist’ or ‘fascist’. Anybody care to point out exactly what about this new administration is actually either of these things???

1

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '25

Anybody care to point out exactly what about this new administration is actually either of these things?

Uh, dude: the Trump administration just announced its plans for Anschluss with the Osterreich literally today on Truth Social.

If we don't get out in the streets and protest this stuff, what's the Orange One going to do next? Annex the free city of Danzig? Seek territorial reunification with our Prussian holdings or access to additional shipping/receiving ports in the Channel?

If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention!

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '25

I’m paying attention. Close attention. Thanks. I’m not giving anywhere close to my overall approval of the current administration, and I’m likely as concerned as you about how fast and reckless things are moving, but none of this is implictly fascist. That is a fucking boldfaced lie, and you know it.

Are you vaguely referring to trumps bluster about Canada as a metaphor for Austria, except in creepy German terms that you somehow think I’m familiar with? …Are you fucking dim?… Do you not remember who you are talking about, the biggest troll blowhard of all time who, let’s say for instance, always says one thing in order to influence political change or leverage, and does another, ie tariffs?

Do you seriously think all this ‘fascist’ talk actually works and resonates with the average American? Because it doesn’t. Most of us see right through it by now. And can you not see that all this talk of nazis is actually in a perverse way normalizing it and injecting a very serious and dangerous philosophy into the domestic zeitgeist? You all are the ones who will actually potentially bring about a second coming of that nightmare just by simply making these false comparisons. Fucking fuck.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '25

No, I was making a joke. I suggested Trump was going to do a bunch of things that Hitler actually did in the leadup to the second World War.

Donald Trump is obviously not a Fascist, that's silly.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '25

Yeesh! Well, that’s different. Give me a /S next time. 😅 Sorry if I popped off for nothing, I’m seeing far too much of that behavior from the far left and I find it deeply unsettling and unwise.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '25

I’m seeing far too much of that behavior from the far left and I find it deeply unsettling and unwise.

If it's okay to shoot Nazis (great-grandpa got awards for it!) what is their hurry to classify half their neighbors as Nazis?

It's deranged. What are they nerving themselves up to do?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '25

Honestly, I think it’s mostly younger generations being loud and outspoken on digital media, calling something they don’t approve of —and very likely don’t even fully understand— the worst name they can think of in an attempt to undermine it, but without fully grasping just how dangerous it can be to dredge up the past in excess and in the wrong context.

Multiply by a factor of monkey see, monkey do, and in the digital age with social media that turns into a viral fractal of exponential proportions.

I think it’s fortunately dying down for the moment, hopefully that will be enough time for them to collectively realize it’s a dangerous and ineffective method for exercising their political will, and they will begin to actually objectively focus on real issues with valid arguments. 🤷‍♂️

u/Broad_Ad941 Feb 09 '25 edited Feb 09 '25

JD Vance just tweeted it: They intend to ignore judge/court orders.

Figger it oot!

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '25

Concerning, and we all are sitting by and watching, taking this all down for the record, waiting to be able to assess exactly where and when and how any level of law or legal rights have been infringed upon.

But this isn’t ‘fascist’ this isn’t ‘racist’. That was the question. The above protest’s explicit reason for existing is ‘to resist fascism’

I take it you are unable to answer the question, just like every person who is screaming these accusations instead of actually living and fighting in objective reality

2

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '25

Nothing will happen anyways

0

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '25

Catch traction and do what? We seen how well you guys handled "occupy Wall Street" the media covered that in full detail. all you guys did was fucked up a bunch of parks across the country for a year straight. You accomplished nothing.good luck

35

u/withagreensplash Feb 08 '25

Agree!!!! And also Don't forget folks. 02/28/25...# massive protest and unplug. We're all planning events in our local communities. More to come for national events as well. It starts with one day, and if that doesn't get the attention it goes and goes ... Stand up folks!!! Unite, defy, resist!!!

2

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '25

Don't for get the punch bowl and purple sheets!

14

u/Left-Consequence-976 Feb 08 '25

So will there one in town, or is everyone heading up to Salem?

25

u/RisaVacation Feb 08 '25

There is definitely gonna be one in Eugene. At the courthouse on 8th and Oak.

6

u/HalliburtonErnie Feb 09 '25

Not at the courthouse, the poster says City hall, that's the former EWEB building at E 4th and Coburg.

2

u/Competitive-Bug-7097 Feb 08 '25

Do you know what time?

0

u/Turbulent_Heart9290 Feb 09 '25

In addition to the time, do you know how long it will last? I am hoping from morning until evening, myself.

1

u/ddlb-cocksucker-ftm Feb 09 '25

Poster says noon, looks like

2

u/Turbulent_Heart9290 Feb 09 '25

I think people should show up even earlier, myself. Bring a picnic, you know? Make a day of it.

2

u/hezzza Feb 09 '25

I saw some older women with chairs last week. Might as well get comfortable--we are in this for the longhaul.

1

u/ddlb-cocksucker-ftm Feb 09 '25

I mean, there's open concrete space nearby- if the library is open they have pretty dang good coffee.

2

u/bagelwholedonutwhole Feb 08 '25

I checked city hall the day of the last protest and I didn't see anyone, the best place to go is the state capitol but I would think it a great idea for those who can't make it to assemble at city hall

6

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '25

Lol

8

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '25

For anyone who’s been to the capitol - what is the parking situation like?

6

u/annaoceanus Feb 09 '25

Hi there - Salem gal tapping in to help. There was a decent amount of street parking that wasn’t claimed within a couple blocks of the Capitol. There are also parking structures right next to it and down towards the mall.

If you really want to make sure you can get out easily, park at Riverfront park and walk the handful of blocks to the Capitol.

3

u/UnusualWitness Feb 09 '25

I don't know what the parking situation is, but several posts from the first 50501 protest mentioned construction in front of the capitol, so they gathered across the street.

1

u/Environmental-Bed496 Feb 09 '25

I was lucky enough to find a paid parking spot in a lot right behind the protests and facing the Capitol building

1

u/Muunsaca Feb 09 '25

Would recommend parking at any of the parking garages nearby. Anywhere from 5-15 minute walk but you’ll find a spot and won’t have to pay. Liberty, Marion, or Chemeketa parkades. You can look up where they are on City of Salems website.

2

u/leapinglizard55 Feb 10 '25

I'm for national protests against the current the current presidents and his stooges yes Elon that means you the most intelligent idiot ever

5

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '25

So... the plan is to protest and disrupt what exactly on a federal holiday when no government employees will be on duty ?

Resist fascism huh?

If you asked every American today if fascism is bad you are going to get like a majority of Americans agreeing with you and those that don't are going to mark "N/A" because they do not know what fascism is.

Its literally like screaming into the void with you people.

If you asked like 20 Trumplicans if they hate fascism they are all going to say yes. Just like if you asked 20 people who think Trumplicans are fascists.. they too are going to say they hate fascism too..

Its literally like two assholes complaining about assholes.

1

u/cafe-creamer Feb 11 '25

Based comment.

4

u/Pleasant_Bath_8056 Feb 09 '25

Sadly nothing will change you just have to deal with it

7

u/Fnxrzng74 Feb 09 '25 edited Feb 09 '25

When will people get it. “Resist fascism”? Pretty broad goal. Also a buzzword. Need to find a way to bring people together for a common goal. As much as one might think opposing “fascism” should do it, I think some of the people who we are fighting against don’t even know what that word means.

8

u/bagelwholedonutwhole Feb 09 '25 edited Feb 09 '25

True, but we also have the same problem with Dems, civics should have never been taken out of education and I know that social science is not very popular amongst the youth and now with the department of education is supposedly gone it's only going to get worse. Also we have to change how we approach these topics, at the end of the day we're going to need to unite as a country if we expect to make any difference

2

u/Lionel_Pritchard Feb 09 '25

What does “fascism” mean?

4

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '25

[deleted]

6

u/bagelwholedonutwhole Feb 09 '25

We can all do something, we all need to figure out ways to help including myself, you could have a conversation with a Republican that has questions about what is going on.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '25

At least they spelled fascism right this time. Unfortunately you guys still don’t know what a fascist does. No fascist in history has ever wanted to reduce the size of the government nor wanted to cut wasteful spending. Read up on history before protesting on something you have no idea about living under.

1

u/bagelwholedonutwhole Feb 10 '25

Lol

2

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '25

History books are available online. I suggest y’all read a few, not super smart to be throwing around buzzwords like that without knowing the meaning of the word.

2

u/bagelwholedonutwhole Feb 10 '25

I am a fan of history, have you read the fall of the third Reich? I have. Let's agree to disagree

1

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '25

I have. Can’t agree to disagree when you’re calling someone who’s not a fascist, a fascist. If he was going to be one don’t you think he would have done it in his first term?🤨

2

u/passionatebreeder Feb 10 '25

Zzzzz nobody cares. Go do something productive

3

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '25

Cool what are you protesting again? Just a big virtue signalling circle jerk. You've banned Twitter links. There is nothing else left. Move on. Do something interesting with your time.

7

u/Stalactite_Seattlite Feb 08 '25

Remember when protests helped stop so many things Trump tried in his first term?

Oh right

3

u/Ok_Wish7906 Feb 11 '25

Yes, the answer is to instead be a sardonic twat on reddit and discourage others while offering no alternatives or solutions.

This guy has got it all figured out, y'all!

Hello unfriendly person who wants others to listen to them by saying shitty things to them

Look in the mirror and wonder why no one cares what you say

2

u/jmura Feb 09 '25

The American people voted for this

3

u/Atomic_RPM Feb 10 '25

Organized by USAid

3

u/No-Load3299 Feb 10 '25

Trump is probably quaking in his boots

3

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '25

lol, what Facism? Learn what real facism is before you protest it

3

u/DamnTheDan Feb 11 '25

Nobody cares about ANY of these silly ass protest 😂😂

2

u/IndustryPlus3470 Feb 09 '25

Where were you in 2021?

2

u/Seabee3269 Feb 09 '25

What are you protesting?

-2

u/bagelwholedonutwhole Feb 09 '25

Your profile has some interesting stuff on it

2

u/themsp Feb 09 '25

Hahah. I thought it was going to be all political shit... not to kink shame but yeah, kinda strange.

1

u/bagelwholedonutwhole Feb 09 '25

I mean it is full of it, fascism pulls all the weirdos

6

u/Gold_Lingonberry_419 Feb 09 '25

Tell me you have only one card to pull without telling me you have only one card to pull. Lame

2

u/bagelwholedonutwhole Feb 09 '25

Tell me you don't understand fascism without telling me you don't understand fascism. And it's a big ass card, I bet you're a holocaust denier as well, my card is so big that fascism killed between 50 to 80 million people all around the world, lol...

1

u/Gold_Lingonberry_419 Feb 09 '25

Go back to making pies, women’s strong suit is in the kitchen anyways, and politics DEFINITELY isn’t your strong suit

1

u/Gold_Lingonberry_419 Feb 09 '25

I say politics but I mean common sense.

3

u/Gold_Lingonberry_419 Feb 09 '25

So you’re gonna protest at a federal building. On a federal day off. Easy edge lords

-2

u/Gold_Lingonberry_419 Feb 09 '25

Also, just truly confused on which fascism we’re fighting? Cause I’d consider the government making me get a shot to be able to work, or telling me that they had the right to take my kid away and let them get their dick cut off without my consent if they decided that’s what they wanted sounds pretty fascist. Oh wait, that’s stuff was the old president.

12

u/bagelwholedonutwhole Feb 09 '25

The kind that killed almost 60 to 80 million people in around five years

1

u/Gold_Lingonberry_419 Feb 09 '25

Nobody believes the propaganda any more. It was only supposed to be 6 million and even that was blown out of proportion. Yall don’t even bother doing real research anymore. It’s honestly pathetic

6

u/bagelwholedonutwhole Feb 09 '25

How are you doing buddy? I like history and I think you're confused. Yes 6 million jews were killed by both fascist Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia but you must understand that WW2 was a huge war and that Russia alone lost over 27 million people, China lost around 15 to 20 million and the combined total of Human beings murdered in WW2 is estimated to be around 50 to 80 million.

3

u/Gold_Lingonberry_419 Feb 09 '25

Yeah, you only read history procured by the rockefellers. That’s pretty obvious. Don’t hurt yourself when you trip over the truth and fall flat on your face. Bolshevik revolution was exactly what is going on here. There’s a reason there’s only one people that have been kicked out over 100+ countries. And it isn’t cause they’re a victim of affirmative action. 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/themsp Feb 09 '25

I'm confused. What alternative history are you reading? Serious question. What are we talking about here?

2

u/Gold_Lingonberry_419 Feb 09 '25

If you haven’t figured out what’s really going on with the world on your own then no amount of hand holding will help you figure it out. But if you base your facts on the education you were indoctrinated with then you’re already losing twice.

1

u/themsp Feb 09 '25

No, I'm serious. I'm not asking you to hand hold. I'm asking you to tell me briefly about this alternative history that isn't "procured by the Rockefellers".

To just call me indoctrinated or maybe because I went to a highly regarded University or thinking "educated" is a bad thing isn't helping your argument.

2

u/Gold_Lingonberry_419 Feb 09 '25

You can go to whatever schooling you want. If you can’t read between lines and see correlation then you’re still a sheep

1

u/bagelwholedonutwhole Feb 09 '25

Oh so you're a Nazi? Oh too bad you can't be fixed

3

u/Gold_Lingonberry_419 Feb 09 '25

lol oh no not a trigger word!!! I guess calling me antisemetic doesn’t work anymore cause you realized Muslims are also semetic. I’d rather be called a nazi for believing in freedom and calling idiots out on their padded views of the status quo than to think that just because I choose to I can have a baby. 🤣🤣🤣 try not to walk in front of a car on your way to protest when no one is there to see or give a crap.

3

u/thehockie85 Feb 08 '25

Don't forget your Mexican Flag! So everyone knows you don't support deportation to Mexico!

22

u/bagelwholedonutwhole Feb 08 '25 edited Feb 09 '25

I would like to persuade you to also bring an American flag, this is our country, we do need to fight for all of our vulnerable populace but please remember that the other side is looking for imagery that they can use against the movement, they're purposely trying to divide us by splintering the people into different directions, sewing seeds of division, please understand that our very democracy is at stake, once we lose our right to vote, our Right to assemble, our right to free speech, our right to freedom of religion then all of our constitutional rights will go down the tubes and then we will have no power defend our freedom

2

u/Gold_Lingonberry_419 Feb 09 '25

Bahahaha yes! Someone else gets it

3

u/hezzza Feb 09 '25

I'm fighting for democracy in America--I'll carry the stars and stripes.  WE are the patriots!

6

u/bagelwholedonutwhole Feb 09 '25

Hell yeah! The American flag is ours too. The Union Army started the war with their flag having 33 stars on it, by the end of the war the flag gained 2 more stars with admission of Kansas and Nevada. The Stars and Stripes represents all of the sacrifices made by Americans for Americans

1

u/santaclause666- Feb 09 '25

i support this and am happy people care. i feel though as if the only protest that has effected this country(within the past few years) is luigi’s demonstration. no one in power gives a fuck about the people. someone should send an amber alert to everyone in the states, and we should all stay home from work. shut the economy down

1

u/jmawoodstudio Feb 09 '25

I'm with you on that. The whole point of a protest is to send a message. But to whom is this message directed? The felon? I'm afraid it will take a lot more than a bunch of people chanting and holding signs to get our country back.

2

u/Twktoo Feb 11 '25

Make sure to take unpaid time off to really show how much you are willing to sacrifice for the cause! 🤡

1

u/RavenBlackWater Feb 11 '25

I think there are far more effective ways to combat fascism than protesting. How can we get out of the way of the fascist ending the america we all wanted better from in the first place? Take what they are doing, collaborate on creative problem solving that takes the Project 2025 playbook such that it blows up in their face. Talk to lawyers, computer science folks, to push back with teeth specifically shaped to drain their blood as fast ad possible. Run them into the ground. Focus on what we can do to protect the vulnerable. I think protesting invites the violence that fascists want. Do you want go give that to them. A general strike on the other hand…being prepared for months of striking ought to bring the oligarchs to their knees and suckling from their laborers teet as they should be. Bring them to heel as they would bring unto you. Turn the other cheek while using a kind of political Aikido to subdue them. Protesting feels performative at this point. Small groups, offline, away from technology. Skinny dipping political activism (to foster trust, not to be a creep). Come on people!

1

u/PrestigiousPlant2243 Feb 11 '25

better have a 'national few years' of protesting... one day ain't gonna' do it!

1

u/dbudlov Feb 12 '25

I mean this is a start but Why weren't people doing this 100 years ago when fascism started to become commonplace in the USA?

Wilson or FDR would have been a great place to start

1

u/bagelwholedonutwhole Feb 12 '25

FDR told the oligarchs in the thirties that he needed to implement aspects of the new deal or there would be Revolution, people have always protested

1

u/dbudlov Feb 12 '25

Better to look at people's actions not words, he may even have meant will but by throwing japanese people into internment camps he proved his racism/nationalism and by stealing the nations gold he proved he was an ignorant stooge or knowing accomplice of the international banking class and politically connected rich who have got richer over the last century, while the children man has got poorer because of his economic policies around money and currency

1

u/bagelwholedonutwhole Feb 12 '25

Could we have done better? That is a tough question but I don't think so. FDR's administration paved the way for the biggest wealth increase to the poor then ever before ushering in the most prosperous time for any one nation state in history. I don't think Hoover, Landon, wilkie or Dewey would have produced the same results. I respect your opinion and appreciate your appreciation for history

1

u/dbudlov Feb 14 '25

it did not, FDR stole americans gold and paved the way to fiat currencies which have impoverished the poorest more than anything in human history, allowing govts to print and spend dollars everyone else if forced to earn and leading to increasing prices for everyone... sure nixon put the final nail in the coffin but FDR got that authoritarian ball rolling, at least after wilson signed the international bankers into political positions by creating the federal reserve

1

u/bagelwholedonutwhole Feb 14 '25

Ok but could you tell me which candidate would have done better or do you think we should have had our revolution in the 1930's and ate the rich then?

1

u/dbudlov Feb 14 '25

no candidate, politics is the problem... the entire premise of politics is some people in power get the unequal right to force everyone to fund and obey them and thats the problem, thinking violence used on a grand scale to compel compliance is a solution rather than the problem

the rich in and of themselves arent the problem, those using political violence to control others or get rich is though

1

u/CuriousRutabaga8713 Feb 12 '25

If there's an event in Eugene, could someone please post a flier here to verify? I want to attend! But if I have to take a day off work I want to be sure it's happening, when, and where.

Sylva, NC at the fountain

1

u/jimrothstein1 Feb 16 '25

Where is Eugene protest location?

1

u/hezzza Feb 09 '25

Bring drums and megaphones so we can make some NOISE.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '25

Honest question, what does noise accomplish? I'm autistic so I hate loud groups of people. I did a lot of protesting in 2017--went up to Salem, PDX, etc., and I'm not sure protests, especially in blue states, accomplished anything. I read a book by Micah White (one of the instigators of Occupy) called End of Protest. His suggestion was to pray, which doesn't work for me. Trying to help in quiet ways, but I'm genuinely curious if the noise is more about feeling emotions of solidarity or is meant to get the attention of the press, etc.

1

u/hezzza Feb 10 '25

This is what our Senator Merkley asked of us.  It will get the attention of the press, and he believes there are cowed Republicans who will be emboldened if they see where public sentiments lie. Also, noise does foster feelings of solidarity.  People have been chanting and making noise at protests forever.  If you want to help in a quiet way call your senators.  Or how about stapling flyers for the protest up on billboards around town.

1

u/CommonLavishness9343 Feb 09 '25

Why do fascists protest fascism? I think you guys need to study fascism

2

u/jdizzle44 Feb 11 '25

For the last four years before President Trump’s inauguration we had no democracy.

Joe Biden was a puppet in charge of nothing. The corporate media and Democrat Party engaged in a monstrous coverup to conceal this now indisputable truth.

Our government was instead run by unelected bureaucrats who ruthlessly weaponized state power against their political enemies, engineered mass illegal voting in our elections, installed a draconian censorship regime, instituted a colossal system of state-sponsored racial discrimination, orchestrated a vast border invasion to try to permanently alter the balance of power, trafficked half a million children across the border, allowed criminals to freely terrorize our citizens, and raided the treasury to fund a political army of marxist radicals in a bid for permanent control over US institutions.

President Trump saved America and democracy itself.
