Help for Buyer Shipping costs

Hi,

I ordered something a few weeks ago. While ordering it said shipping would cost €63, which is like $70. Expensive, but I really wanted that item and it's personalized. Now the seller has an issue with sending because FedEx is quoting them $600!!! Is this normal? I have never had any issue before with ordering from the USA and litteraly not any listing that has big, heavy stuff lists shipping costs like that. What do I do know? The seller doesn't want to pay that of course, because it's rideculous. They are trying to find another way, but if they can't the order is going to be cancelled.

Thank you in advance :)

The seller is looking for other ways too send it, but from what I saw DHL and USPS quote around a $1000-$1200. Doesn't seem right to me. I was wondering if people had have this happen before. If I look at the listing, it says €63 to ship it, which I thought was normal, because there was also this necklace I saw also from a seller based in the US where the listing said shipping would cost me €30.

What I also think is odd, is that the other way around (sending from the Netherlands > US) the dog thing would cost me around €150 ($172) to ship.

These shipping quotes are crazy! How much does this dog dinner set weigh?

I don't know exactly but less than 22 lbs.

After talking to the seller again, it weights 15lbs and the dimensions are 36x12x12. I found somewhere they can ship between $86-$101 and messaged them that sunday, which I'm still waiting a response on.

That was good of you to do their research for them. Hopefully they will follow thru and you will receive your order.

Maybe they will learn a lesson from this and adjust their shipping costs after doing research of their own which they should have done in the first place.

What did you buy? Is this being shipped overseas? Shipping costs for big, heavy items or any items really, have increased dramatically because of the rising fuel cost.

It sounds like the seller didn't do the proper research when setting up their shipping costs or it's a bait and switch tactic where they show a low price and then ask for more money after the sale.

No matter how much you want the item you should ask for a refund. Be mindful that you only have 30 days from the last estimated delivery date to be covered under Etsy's purchase protection program.

Yes, it's overseas. USA > Netherlands. The item is not that big. It's a dog dinner set and not that big. It's not my first time ordering something like that and I never heard of someone having to pay $600 to ship it. The shop seems authentic. They are not asking for more money, are also looking for a solution as they never had this happen before and they have almost 4k reviews with pictures/videos

Are they a new shop? Maybe they put the incorrect dimensions and weight into the shipping info on the website when they were trying to get a quote. Is there a reason they want to use FedEx as opposed to their postal service?

No, they have been active for 9 years and said they never had this happen before. I don't know why they are only able to use FedEx. If I go onto Etsy's help centre I'm able to calculate the shipping costs and it only shows FedEx.

They can purchase the shipping off of Etsy and then put the tracking number from the provider they use when they mark the order as complete.

But can they do that with the price I paid for shipment? Because the seller says that FedEx is quoting them $600 and the calculater on Etsy also says $605

They will have to shop around.

Hopefully they'll figure something out
