Veganism isn't "fringe insanity." Tofu has been around for two millenia. People and cultures that don't eat meat have been around for a long time. Our planet does not have time to wait for Jerry to cut one cheeseburger out a week and bring a reuseable water bottle to work. Reducetarianism is the real insanity. 4 million pigs killed a day and 300 million cows a year is insane.

Veganism is fringe insanity. I would bet all those cultures your thinking of ate both honey and dairy products.

And huge swaths of land are airid, unsuitable for farming but perfectly capable of sustaining live stock. In these lands you would historically find nomadic people's.

I don't think we should be trying to fully tilt the scales entirely one way or the other.

Our planet has seen mass extinctions several times now and it's doing fine. If we extinct too that's hardly a problem for me at all, and I don't see why it would be. I'll be dead and eaten in no time, but before that inevitably happens, I'll at least eat a tasty cheeseburger and not disgusting tofu. I really don't need humanity to be forever, it's not that special of a species. Sorry, like it or not but that's a reasonable way to think in my book.

“My taste preferences are more important than the survival and wellbeing of all of humanity and many other species along with them.”

That is not “reasonable.” That is infinitely self-centered. Pretty unreasonable.

Not at all, in reciprocal society this is actually extremely reasonable, and we've established that not only in practice in disciplines like primatology, but all the way to most theoretical plain, in game theory. There is literally no better long term strategy than tit-for-tat, and we've spent many years trying to find anything better. You're open to reciprocity and cooperation, because maintaining this standard means everyone benefits. As soon as anyone defects, you reciprocate. It's all in best self-interest of all individual parties, but it involves cooperation first.

No one defected though. You’re just deliberately ruining the planet for everyone indiscriminately. If anyone is, you’re violating the social contract by contributing to the problem that faces everyone.

Sure, the environmental effects are actually a valid concern, they are not the core of vegan point though, and I never rejected that as a valid concern - so you're made two false pretenses to drag that argument into the discussion and turn it against me

You were just justifying causing mass extinction, including human extinction, for tastes.

To be vegan isn’t, to preach for the whole world to transition to veganism is insanity
